We received a lovely welcome from Angie & Leigh - a reviving cup of tea together with homemade anzac biscuits. This property is in a marvellous location, overlooking Rotorua, with panoramic views. Our room was very comfortable and clean with a great, modern en-suite. The communal lounge/dining area was delightful. Breakfast was a real treat, especially the homemade jams. Wished we could have stayed longer than our two nights. We have told all our friends and family what a great place to stay this was.
My wife and I needed to get away from the hustle and bustle, City Lights was recommended to us. What a perfect place, accommodation was spot on, Angie and Leigh, the perfect hosts and the alpacas were the icing on the cake. We will be back, highly recommended and thank you for an ultimate experience...
We had 2 nights at City Lights in early February (sorry Angie and Leigh it has taken this long to give you a review). From the moment we arrived the warm welcome we were given was outstanding, including a much needed cuppa and home baked biscuits outside in the delightful garden. Angie and Leigh explained how they came to be running City Lights and told us all about the local area. It took no time to feel totally relaxed in this very lovely location. Our room (Tui) was supremely comfortable and spotlessly clean with the added bonus of the charming herd of Alpacas outside the patio doors. Angie very kindly drove us into town on our first night to a recommended restaurant (Terrace Kitchen). Breakfast on both occasions was freshly prepared and we could wish for nothing more. Full marks to both Angie and Leigh for taking the plunge a few years ago and making such a success of this little piece of heaven. We would love to have stayed longer and this was without doubt one of our accommodation highlights during a six week trip.
City lights is a lovely B and B with gorgeous views of Rotorua and friendly hosts,- Leigh and Angie. It was nice that the B and B was owned by fellow Brits. It is out of town but the instructions were easy to follow. The B and B had a lovely lounge/dining area and a hot tub and sauna that we didn't use. The bedroom was spacious with a sitting area, a comfortable bed and everything you needed in the bathroom. Angie was full of suggestions of things to do in the area. It was nice to feed the friendly alpacas. The continental breakfast was good with cereals, fruit, yogurt, toast, croissants and home made jams. We enjoyed our 2 night stay at City Lights and wished it was longer.
Away from town and a little difficult to find but well worth it. Angie and Leigh are fantastic hosts who make you feel very welcome. Our room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was very good with several items home made. They gave us some great ideas of what to do and places to eat. As a bonus we got to feed the alpacas. Our room had an amazing view. All and all a great stay.
We were touring New Zealand as part of a retirement round the world trip. As a result we stayed in a wide range of accommodation and can say that without doubt this was the best. My wife had chosen it partly because of the alpacas although the accommodation and location was obviously important. We stayed in the cottage and, as it had been my wife's birthday during the trip and our wedding anniversary, Angie had put up congratulatory banners along with a card and bottle of champagne in the fridge. We enjoyed being separate from the main house on this occasion and the views were fantastic. We were also able to feed the alpacas when they came around to the paddock in front of our cottage. It was well equipped with a selection of breakfast items. There was a small laundry room in the cottage which was very useful as we needed to do some washing after all our travelling! Angie & Leigh are the perfect hosts and it was an absolute delight to be staying away from the hustle and bustle of central Rotorua, even if we did experience a minor earthquake during our stay!
From the minute we arrived until we left we were made most welcome. The room was large and excellent. It had a sitting area and during our time in NZ it was by far the best B&B that we stayed at. The breakfast was great, free wifi and lots of helpful ideas about what to see and where to go. Highly recommended.
We visited Roturua in January and stayed for two nights at the Lodge. Angie and Leigh made us feel very welcome from the start. They took us to the garden to chat and to show us the beautiful view and of course, the alpacas... It takes some time and effort to get to the Lodge but it is worth it. Angie and Leigh are very nice and helpful hosts. The room is splendid and the breakfast very tasteful. After a day of discovering the area we were invited to have a glass of wine with the hosts and the other guests. Angie and Leigh are really interested in their guests and they try very hard to please everyone. This is a fantastic place to stay!
It's been a year since my adventure to New Zealand and I was reminded of how lovely City Lights was. We arrived after our day out in the magical world of Hobbiton and were shown our rooms, they were spotless clean, stylish, comfortable and were very homely. Exactly what we needed after a big day! Literally there was no fault! The alpacas were GREAT! It's such a serene and peaceful place with the green mountains towering above, it was especially beautiful in the morning with the mist coating the peaks. What stood out to me and my family was the service. I and a few of us had left things behind, a pair of leggings and other stuff and the owners went to the effort to track down where we were heading and had the items posted to our next hotel. So kind of them! I hadn't even realised i'd forgotten my leggings! I 100% recommend! Literally faultless would love to stay again!!!!
Just back from our 5 week trip to New Zealand and we rate this accommodation as the most enjoyable of our whole trip and the best b & b we have stayed in. Angie and Leigh's hospitality and local knowledge was first class as was our room. City Lights is located high above Rotorua in a peaceful location with great views across the countryside including geysers. The pet alpacas and Oscar the cat were really friendly too! We were made to feel totally at home and Angie and Leigh went to the trouble of organising an impromptu "pizza evening" which was a huge success and enjoyed by everyone staying there. If we ever travelled to New Zealand again we would not hesitate staying there and would recommend it very highly.
