It's a small hotel, great location above the Spanish steps. We had the panoramic suite in the building next door. It had a huge balcony overlooking all of Rome, we could see almost every landmark, so beautiful. We enjoyed listening to the opera music in the evening from a nearby restaurant. Room was clean and we had sodas, water and chips from the free mini bar. Our friends were in the main building and they had a pretty terrace near the breakfast room. Good breakfast and a nice outdoor cafe right in front of the lobby. Easy walk to the steps, trevi fountain, shops and restaurants.
We recently stayed at this hotel (May 15-22, 2019). We had a wonderful experience. Very friendly and helpful staff. Small, well appointed rooms with very good amenities. Good breakfast with lots of choices, and coffee/tea available all day/night. The location is superb, being at the top of the Spanish Steps. The locale has both high end boutiques and restaurants to more traditional shops and cafes. Very safe, and fun to walk. No more than 15 minutes to major sites like the Pantheon, Piazza Navone, Trevi Fountain, etc. We would stay here again.
Situated near top of Spanish Steps and short walk to Trevi fountain. Tea/coffee available 24/7 in breakfast room with outside terrace. Bacon, scrambled egg and sausages available as well as croissants and numerous cakes and fruit. .
Stayed here with our kids in the family room and it was just great. The room was big enough for all 4 of us and the location was so nice. Everyone at the desk was so friendly and helpful. We got some great restaurant recommendations from each of them and some tips. We loved the breakfast and the fact that you could make espresso, cappucino, tea 24 hours yourself, with the push of a button, in the breakfast room. At night, you could hear people talking and laughing at the cafe outside but it all died down around 10 pm - plus, it's kind of nice to hear life happening outside.
I absolutely loved staying at Hotel Scalinata di Spagna. Very charming small hotel in a great location. Very clean and welcoming. I would stay there again in a minute! I was there with my daughter and we loved it!
We booked at this hotel based on the location and the positive reviews, but were sorely disappointed. The rooms in the main hotel may be nicer, but we were surprised when we were escorted outside and into a sterile building next door. Our room looked nothing like the photos online. I think the bathroom was the worst part of our room. It was dimly lit, the shower door was impossible to slide open and closed, and it was so small you had to sit on the toilet sideways because there was no space between it and the sink. The AC unit in our room was loud and dripped throughout the night. The walls were paper thin so we woke up to the sound of our neighbors coming back to their room. We were staying there only one night at the end of our trip, otherwise we would have found different accommodations. We felt completely ripped off and it was a disappointing way to end the trip.
For context we are a family of four with 21 & 19 year olds. Arrived 0930 in van from FCO arranged by hotel. Advised our rooms would be ready by 1030 which they were at no extra fee. Enjoyed a very nice breakfast in the breakfast / all day snack room on upper floor that includes covered sitting areas and an open-air terrace with pleasant views. Buffet breakfast includes scrambled eggs, hot and cured meats, cheeses, yogurts, fresh fruit, fruit juices, espresso and wide variety of other coffee-derived beverages. Our deluxe quadropole (1 king, 2 twin beds) room was exactly as pictured. Decent wifi, and some minor AM rubbish collection noise in the AM but only heard it if already awake, and no foul smells whatsoever. Very clean room & bathroom. Top of Spanish Steps, which were near-vacant until 830/900. Three min walk to elevator to the M subway station; 12 minutes to Collisseum, less to Vatican. Hotel very close to some excellent restaurants, and very walkable to the Borghese park. Staff very helpful, most cheerful. Book with confidence.
We had a party of 7 and stayed in 3 rooms including the panoramic suite. I thought the location was perfect. Yes you had to walk up the Spanish steps to get to the hotel but the location was so convenient to everything. The breakfast room was lovely and the breakfast itself was very nice. I loved having the coffee machine available all day. The stocked minibar with complimentary water was such a nice touch. I would definitely stay again but if you have the opportunity to book the panoramic suite the views were amazing! The front desk staff were very helpful.
My wife and I were very happy with our stay. Our room was in an adjoining building and we found it quiet and comfortable. Spagna is a great neighborhood with an easy metro connection to many other sites. We felt completely safe and had no trouble communicating with anyone. The breakfast was free and delicious. Will stay again.
The location is worth the price, except the Spagna metro station was closed for repair during my visit. Otherwise it would have been extremely convenient. Clean rooms, a tad small, but had a wonderful stay overall. Breakfast was lovely in the outdoor balcony
