OVERALL: I really enjoyed staying at this quaint boutique hotel that was a very short walk to the Colosseum and all other attractions. If you walk out of the hotel and look to the left, you can see the Colosseum down the street. I walked to all destinations such as Campo de Fiori, the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps.. even as far as Piazza de Papolo and the baths of Caracalla. THE ROOM: My single room was decorated classically and was spotlessly clean. NOTE: A single room is small and obviously meant for a single traveler. I am 6' tall and slender, so I didn't have any trouble with the bed or the small shower and was perfectly comfortable.. However, if you are of larger stature or size, you may want to request a larger room with a bigger bed. The room also comes with a cell phone which I thought was such a unique touch! I didn't end up using it because I have excellent international through Sprint, but this could certainly come in handy to anyone. The rooftop breakfast was perfect with several food selections. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, and honeslty, I couldn’t have asked for better hotel employees! They spoke excellent English, which I was grateful for since I don't speak Italian :-) They made me feel quite welcome and answered any question I had about transportation, sites, etc. If I ever visit again, I would absolutely stay at Apollo Hotel! Attached in my pictures is a map I made of a walk I took on one of my free days. I left about 9 in the morning and was finished by early afternoon. I ate lunch near Piazza Navona. The walk was far, but I honestly didn't notice because I was taking in so many beautiful sites! Below is the itenerary, and make sure to check out my attached map! Happy and Safe Travels to You! 1) Hotel Apollo – Piazza Barberini 1.1km/.68 miles (11 min) 2) 2 minutes away is Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini which has a crypt museum 3) Piazza di Spagna (Spanish Steps) 700m/.43 miles (10 min) 4) Piazza del Popolo 800m/.5 miles (10 min) 5) Mausoleum of Augustus 550m/.34 miles (6 min) 6) Trevi Fountain 1.2km/.75 miles (15 min) 7) Temple of Hadrian 400m/.25 miles (5 min) 8) Pantheon 300m/.19 miles (4 min) 9) Piazza Navona 450m/.28 miles (6 min) 10) Campo de’ Fiori 550m/.34 miles (6 min) From Campo de’ Fiori, it is a 1.8km/1.12 mile walk back to Hotel Apollo
We loved this place. It's in a very old building that was once a palazzo that belonged to Napoleon's daughter. Now, one floor is the hotel and the other floors are apartments and offices. We were amazed that, looking down the end of the street, we could see the Colesseum. Great location too. Staff is really nice and the hot breakfast is good enough to hold you into the afternoon. The entry door from the street leads you into an empty hallway that does not look much like a hotel. Go up a flight of stairs and you enter a very comfy lobby. Rooms are in hallways on the same floor. They are clean, comfortable and have windows you can throw open for fresh air.
My partner and I stayed 5 nights in September 2017 and had a most enjoyable stay. Our double room was spacious with a good sized bathroom and plenty of space for our clothes The location was excellent being 10 minutes from the Colosseum and we walked to all the other attractions. The staff were cheerful and helpful, particularly Alexandra who checked us in. We highly recommend this hotel and woyld happily stay here again should we visit Rome.
This hotel was recommended to us and it didn't disappoint. The position was ideal and the room and services excellent and I certainly would rate it above 3 star - I would confidently recommend this hotel to others and should I return to Rome would stay here again.
First, it is important to state that my stay at Hotel Apollo was not only my first time solo traveling, but my first time ever outside of the United States and Canada. I was VERY nervous. I booked my stay at Hotel Apollo based on location. Upon booking, I sent a message about wanting to be picked up at the airport because I was too nervous to figure out taxis or metro lines. From the very moment I met the driver at the airport to the day I checked out, I felt welcome. When I arrived after a 12 hour flight, the receptionist spoke to me in perfect English and offered me a welcome drink in the bar. They explained how everything worked and where things in Rome were located. They gave me the confidence I needed to navigate a foreign country and city alone. Their attitude was always courteous and professional. If this wasn't enough, I left my tablet in my room when I checked out and traveled up to Florence. I contacted Hotel Apollo and they promptly located my tablet and kept it for me for when I returned to Rome a week later. I would highly recommend Hotel Apollo!
Pros: Extremely friendly & knowledgeable staff, clean hotel & rooms, good breakfast facilities, large quiet rooms, location. Location: Close to the Colliseum, Termini Rail station & 2 metro stations, lots of good local restaurants asian & italian. We stayed as a large family of 10 in late Aug 2017. There are lots of good hotels but few that have such helpful & friendly staff. They were constantly making sure we were ok with everything & giving lots of knowledgeable help on places to see, how to get there, when to go. The hotel has the feel of a family hotel rather than a boring corporate affair. Our 5 double rooms had lots of space with large bathrooms. All were very clean & fully functional with safes & fridges. Each room came with a free to use Handy mobile phone. So no need to use your own minutes when in / out of the hotel. The hotel location is easy to find & quiet so you get a restful sleep. The hotel restaurant had a nice range of options for breakfast. There was also a restaurant next door which offered guests a good discount. There are a variety of restaurants inc indian in the local vacinity & a cheap but good Gelato place just down the road. The hotel is only 5 / 10 mins from the Colliseum which you can see from the hotel at the bottom of the street. 2 Metro stations & the main rail station are all a short walk away so its easy to get around the city or even the airport. A really great place to stay at a very good price & we would definately stay again / recommend to others. I would give it a high end 3 star rating.
This hotel isn't much to look at from the street but once inside, it's great! The staff is outstanding. They were all very helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. The a/c worked well. Large bathroom. They even provided a smartphone for us to use. (We didn't use it but that could come in very handy.) The rooftop terrace was a nice quiet place to have breakfast each morning. Upon arrival, we were given a voucher to use in the little bar downstairs for a free glass of prosecco. Nice way to welcome us! Outstanding location! You can see the Colosseum from the front door of the hotel! Low price but wonderful value!
We booked 5 rooms for 7 nights in the 3rd week of Aug 2017. Each double room was very clean, a nice large size & with large ensuite bathrooms. The rooms were air conditioned & included a fridge & safe. The internal restaurant offers a good selection of breakfast options. The hotel is located on a quiet road so there is no traffic disturbance. It's a 5 min walk from the Colliseum & close to the Metro & the main Rail station Termini. There are many local restaurants including Indian ones. So you never need to go far to eat out. The staff are what really makes this place stand out. They are extremely friendly, full of smiles & offer all sorts of help. In particular their knowledge of Italy (not just Rome) is excellent. We went out for a day trip to Florence & Tivoli. For both locations they offered lots of guidance & recommendations & helped with the train bookings to ensure we got the cheapest fares. There is no issue with not speaking Italian as the staff all speak fluent english. It's an excellent top end 3 star hotel. I would not bother looking elsewhere if I'm lucky enough to visit Rome again & would throughly recommend it to anyone. You will not be disappointed.
The hotel is located very close to all the important valleys. I paid only 60 euros for two people with breakfast. The hotel is old but clean. The operation is very active with its helpfulness. Simple breakfast. You should ask for instructions on how to start the TV. The internet works periodically very badly. Overall, I was surprised at how much I got for the money. If I'm on vacation, I would not hesitate to stay there again for a period of 1 to 5 days.
Did you know some hotels provide you with a free smartphone with unlimited data? I didn't. Oh, the location is also excellent, and the rooms are nice. Excellent service, close to the center and public transport, really nothing to complain about.
