We are two Californians in Rome and this hotel was perfect. It was right in the heart of the city so we could walk along the river and go to cool restaurants, etc. The staff was the best part. They were SO wonderful and accommodating, helping us with anything we needed along with giving us local recommendations. 10/10 will stay here again.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is perfect as it is within walking distance to many sites

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful! The breakfast buffet was exceptional, and the location is perfect. We were able to walk to most sites.

Early check in and upgraded room. All American expectations met. A gem in The eternal city. Spectacular Italian list for those imbibing.

We chose Melia because of service we have received at other of there locations. Fantastic.... Fernando one of the Bartendors is great. You can walk to the Vatican, and pretty much every thing else ... Go you'll love it

Upon check in front desk staff did not provide helpful information when asked. Language barrier was a problem. They did not provide shuttle service or map information. I had to almost beg for that information. Do not purchase tour guide with the hotel. It is outrageously expensive. One tour is like four hundred US dollars for two. Problem is that they sneak that price after you check out after saying it will only cost eighty US dollars each. Get your total purchase price in writing before you commit.

While the hotel staff were excellent with scheduling tickets to tours, advice on where to eat and things to do, and attempted to make us feel welcome every chance they had we weren't thrilled about a few other items. The bed was hard. I understand that most european hotels beds are this way. Still I would expect a 5star to have some beds that are softer. So 10 nights of little sleep. Also they located us on the "alley" side of the hotel. These are the even # rooms. The alley acts as a loudspeaker to people talking as they traverse it at all hours. Also the ambulance - which we deemed the "sound of Rome" - echoed thru the alley about every 20-30 mins. There are 2 hospitals located within 2 mins walking distance each way from hotel. The local dining at the hotel is very expensive. Yes they have a chef with a Michelin Star but don't think that means that the food is fantastic. Most of the dishes we tried weren't that great. & the portion sizes are very small. Dinner for 2 without drinks was EU215 + tip. This was about $300 US. Also the breakfast buffet isn't worth the cost unless you have $ to burn. Upon arrival the staff upselled us to the entire stay of breakfast meals at a daily discount of EU8 per person. This meant EU28 / person / meal. While the breakfast was all you can eat it was the exact same menu every day. Runny scrambled eggs, limp bacon, smoked salmon, various croissants and fruit. We ate breakfast @ hotel 3 times then decided to look elsewhere. We asked them to credit us the remaining deposit we had to pay and they were upset about refunding us this even though I told them that I understood that they gave us a discount and would be happy to pay the full price for the 3 meals we had. Eventually they agreed to credit me back the balance. The pool, sauna and spa were closed while we were there. As was the outdoor balcony/ siting area. We were looking forward to the spa and decided to go ahead and book some massage treatments that they decided to offer using a hotel bedroom. The masseur seemed to have no training. The massage was adequate yet nothing more. & @ EU152 for 80 mins I found it to be a waste of money. At checkout I discovered that they then charge a tax of 22% on top of the spa fee. So way overpriced. The room was very clean. The bathtub/shower was exceptional. Small refrigerator/minibar. A/C worked fine once we figured it out. Location was 12-15 min walk from the Vatican and 15-20 mins from shopping and restaurants. Taxi service was fast. Every time we requested a Taxi it arrived within 5 mins. All in all I would give the resort a 3-1/2star. If I return to Rome I won't stay here again. Plenty of other choices in the city. P.S. Hard Rock Cafe only great place to eat American Food. Across street from American Consulate near Piazza Bernini.

Nothing but perfect, excluding wifi connectivity, but really, shouldn't you be enjoying Roma. Rooms fantastic, staff wonderful, breakfast awesome, pool excellent and perfect if you are traveling with children, who need a break from touring. We recommend the Red Level Service and enjoyed the Gran Melia so much we may choose destinations for upcoming travel based on Gran Melia locations.

The only complaint we could have about this fabulous hotel is the close proximity to hospital. Why you ask is this a negative? Because of the ambulance sirens!
