We travelled to Rio to attend my son's wedding and needed lodging. We had 10 people in our group. Others had booked their rooms either directly or through other web sites. We received a "business level" upgrade through Orbitz which included a room with a great view of the beach, limited laundry service (press a suit or shirt daily), and other perks. Like most of the people we encountered in Rio, very few speak English. The front desk people and the concierge did well but most of the other staff did not always understand our requests. The room was spacious and comfortable. The location was near many decent restaurants. The hotel was good at arranging transportation for a few of the excursions we took.

The hotel itself is located perfectly! Easy walk to many locations, helpful staff for questions on where things are or getting a car service. Beautiful view from rooftop pool/bar! Would recommend this place to anyone!

We had a great time at Rio Othon Palace. The hotel has a great location right across the beach of Copacabana. Staff very friendly and courteous. We were surprised to receive a birthday cake for my wife at our room on her birthday, specially since we made no comments about it. Only problem was breakfast too crowded during the weekend and holiday, on weekdays it was ok. Rooms are well accommodated and with nice view, specially in top floors.

The hotel is an awesome location and has all of the amenities you'd likely want. Things like 2 restaurants, an amazing view, a poolside bar, beach service, among other items, are absolutely amazing and create a great experience overall. But let's call it like it is. The rooms are dated, tired, and our bathroom smelled mildewey, moldy or something. And the pool needs a facelift and better cleaning. However, if the rooms were remodeled and everything was perfect, would the hotel price remain as reasonable and affordable as it is? The answer is a resounding NO! So take the good with the bad and appreciate that you had an experience that typically only people with a lot of disposable income can have : )

great hotel with a wonderful location across the street from the beach

I booked two rooms for a family winter trip to Rio. The hotel is very nice, right in front of Copacabana beach. The breakfast was good, Brazilian hotels always offer a very nice breakfast in general. The view from the breakfast lounge was outstanding. This was a very good deal for the price and location, but it looks like a lot of people got good deals here, so it was a bit crowded. If you are looking for something more exclusive with their amenities, it will cost you a lot more. Also, be mindful for their ocean view (it is a side-view on the balcony only) classification, do not confuse it with ocean-front...

I HAD A WONDERFUL VIEW OF THE BEACH, EVEN THOUGH, I HAD A SIDEVIEW ROOM. GOOD BRAKFAST AND CLEAN ROOM

The hotel is located right on the Copacabana Beach, within walking distance to the subway station. The hotel provides beach towels, beach chairs and umbrella. The hotel is a 30 floor building, has lots of guest rooms. So be prepared for a crowed breakfast. The breakfast is free but lack of verities. But it’s free buffet. What I don’t like the hotel is its internet. It’s not free, fine, I’ll pay for RB30 for one day connection. But it’s not for one room, it’s RB30 for one device. In another word, if you have 2 devices, you have to switch between them. OK. I can tolerant that. But what’s not acceptable is the internet speed is so bad, it hardly functions. There is a free internet down the lobby, the speed is bad too. If you want to send good pictures to your friends after a day on the beach, this is not the hotel you want to stay. I also don’t like the fact that I spent extra bucks on an “ocean view, with balcony” room and only found that it’s a side view of the ocean and the balcony is so small that a bench cannot even fit there. I asked the door man for a taxi from the hotel to the Corcovado, he told me it would be a prepaid flat fee of RB50. I took a taxi on the street with meter on, it only cost me RB22.70.

This hotel was great for the price. Thr location was great & the rooms were a nice size & clean. The best part was having a little balcony with a view of the ocean. The breakfast was ok - everything a standard Brazillian breakfast includes like cheeses, meats, pastries & fruit. Overall we really enjoyed our stay.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. It is in a superb location facing the ocean. We had a room with 2 double beds with frontal ocean view. Some very small ants in the room though bed was clean. Check-in time can be made faster if they post the form that needs to be filled in for each guest online. Otherwise we had a wonderful time.

The hotel views are very nice! The staff is ok but not rude either. It was a good experience!

The internet in this hotel barely worked. Internet connections were difficult to establish and frequently disappeared. The internet was unbearably slow when it was working. There was an enormous wait to check out of the hotel.

We waited in line for nearly one hour to check out from the hotel.

We were placed in a ocean front room with a spectacular view but the most horrible furnishings. We asked for a room change and though the room was partial view the furnishing and bathroom was up dated .

Checking in and out took at least an hour due to hotel staff not properly organized. Also, for rooms with balconies, the slider doors had no latches at all. Very unsafe!!

Most of our experience at the Othon was really quite wonderful. The location was amazing, the view from our room was amazing, the bar staff at the roof top pool were amazing, but the staff at the concierge, front desk and bell service left a lot to be desired. The concierge could not be bothered with helping us plan our day trips, no info, no maps and we would be put aside if a tour group leader came to him. We tried to get taxis and were led to their private black car transportation. It was great to see the Christo. It really did turn out to be a bargain, but to charge us R$150 to go to Sugar loaf was outrageous. We took a regular cab and it was R$30 round trip. Its really close and transportation is easy. We used them again to go the airport. We agreed on a price with the hotel staff and driver to make one stop and go to the airport. We know what was discussed because a member of our party speaks fluent Portuguese and was part of the discussion with both the hotel staff and the driver. When we arrived at the airport the driver tried to charge us an additional R$50. That is an additional $25USD. Outrageous. We felt as if this service was just trying to extort money from tourists, above what was fare prices. A regular taxi to the airport is R$60 and we were already paying R$ 100 for the extra stop and ease of their highly recommended (pushed) cars. Just be wary, and negotiate all payments with all parties before agreeing to anything. Know your area, because their service isn't really set up to help you.

Overall, really enjoyed the hotel. The staff was excellent and dealt with my very grumpy travelling companion quite well. The front desk area is a little confusing with regards as to which line you check-in at & which you check-out at, so try not to get frustrated. We had a standard room with 2 twin beds with an ocean view on the 19th floor. Room was small but nicely refurnished, bathroom was nice with good water pressure in the shower and the view was unbelievable! Breakfast was good, lots of fruit, breads and the standard eggs & potatoes. WIFI is available but it costs $30 Real per day ($15 US) for each gadget you use it on- so if you want to use the WIFI on your phone & laptop its $60 Real/day. Lots of security throughout the hotel and the police are outside pretty much all day long- feels very safe. Beach chairs & umbrellas are free through the hotel across the street. They have a limited number so if you get there and they're out just wait and when some open up the attendants will find you. I saw quite a few bad reviews for this hotel, I'm not sure what they expected but I thought this hotel was great. Clean, nicely redone, great location, wonderful staff. After checking out a couple of the other hotels along Ave. Atlantica, I don't think I'd want to stay somewhere else if I came back to Copacabana.

Very busy hotel, but well located. Be sure to ask for a remodeled room. Somewhat expensive hotel, but so is Brazil for an American.

The hotel looked nice from outside. And the entrance was impressive. The room was ok until I sat on the bed. The bed and pillows were very uncomfortable. The bed sheets looked very old and yellow. The balcony door didn't close properly or there were cracks, the curtain kept moving when the wind blew outside. The toilet flush didn't work; I had to press 10 times to manage to flush. They charge 20 Real for the gym; this is the first time I saw a hotel is charging for the gym. The staff was friendly and helpful. Pretty much everybody spoke English. Overall the hotel and room were clean. But certain things need renovation. The location is great.

We had a wonderful view of Copacabana beach from the hotel. The lounges provided for hotel guests at the beach were much appreciated. The breakfast room was immaculate and the buffet choices were excellent. We enjoyed the cozy bar adjacent to the lobby for a nightcap. The front desk staff were efficient and helpful
