Mainstay offers affordable, professionally designed units that provide access to some of the best cities and neighborhoods in the central east coast region. We take pride in offering our guests alternative accommodations outside of traditional hotel living that provides the ability to cook meals, spend time with family and friends, and have a place to stay that feels more like home. Please note that this unit is in an apartment building located in the heart of the city. Due to this, you may experience tenant noise that is outside of our control. We do not have control over the housekeeping in the common areas. Please feel free to notify us of anything excessive and we will work with the property manager on a resolution. This unit is an interior unit which does not have exterior light sources but has frost glass block, high above eye level, which allows some ambient hallway light to enter. We recommend considering this if you are light sensitive while trying to sleep.
The apartment is air-conditioned and features a kitchen and space to spread out with a separate bedroom and a dining area. Other standard amenities include a washing machine, a coffee maker, and an ironing board.

Loft was very nice, location was good. Only thing we had a problem with was finding the entrance (back door). You should word it differently. There is no sign to indicate the old Wells Fargo Bank.

Bittersweet Apartment
Online, the apartment looked beautiful, which it was; however, there were many issues I had with it. For one, there were ROACHES! I had to kill at least 5 of them. The area is sketchy and I didn’t really feel safe. The air was very muggy inside and I instantly started having issues with my allergies. Because I’m a germaphobe, I took the bedding off to wash it before I slept with it and the mattress was stained and gross looking. The bedding was also not the greatest. I was very dissatisfied but the owner responded and a decent time and gave me a full refund. I didn’t stay a night. I had to get out of there.

Extremely firm bed. No blow dryer. Dirty towel left in bathroom. Parking/entry directions and instructions unclear. Apartment is a dungeon with no windows. Building was extremely loud and you can hear everything happening within the building at all hours.

Satisfactory
They have a problem with housekeeping details. While the apartment was clean it lacked some key details and since it was weekend, I got promises and sincere apologies but housekeeping never showed. I bought the replacements instead. And the foyer was a mess. Looks like no one is in charge. Some reviewers were concerned about the neighborhood however it is an urban setting. I am an urbanite and never felt in any danger. It's a block from shopping and restaurants so plenty of people around.
We ended up not staying at the apartment. I did not feel safe, the hallways smelled like cannabis and the apartment itself like cigarettes. The back alley to the entrance was littered with broken glass and I could not imagine walking there at night and feeling safe.
We ended up getting a hotel room instead just so we didn’t have to stay there. I honestly don’t think this apartment should even be an option as a place to stay.

Comfortable getaway with minor quirks
This is a comfortable place to spend a few days in Richmond and the pictures in the listing tell the story accurately. Steps from Perly's, Stella's grocery and everything else downtown, yet feels calm and quiet in the apartment. There was a persistant acrid smell, like burnt rubber or wires in the bathroom the whole time, which would not clear even with the exhaust fan. Airwick scent in the rest of the apartment - not unpleasant - but if you are scent sensitive it could be an issue. As other reviews have noted, the instructions to check in are confusing - especially since the address is on the front of the building and the numbers in the back don't correspond. Refering to the "old Wells Fargo" isn't helpful for people who don't know Richmond. Parking lot signs have been taken down for construction, so it was nerve wracking at first, wondering if we'd be towed. Pictures would help. There was an overflowing trash can outside the interior door the whole time. Instructions said trash was empitied daily, so maybe there was building policy change.Overall a good stay.

Close to convention center
We were in town for a tournament at the convention center and looking for something walking distance. This was perfect! Less than 5 min walk. The loft had everything we could have asked for and was immaculate. Instructions for entering the loft were clear and easy to follow, as well as communication before, during and after was A+! My only suggestion is that the outside of the place was difficult to find - possibly a photo of the entrance would help! But once we found it, the rest of the stay was smooth as could be. Highly recommend!!!

Shooting Stars
Stayed here for a field hockey tournament. Parking & Check in can be confusing. Wouldn't want to do it in the dark. Was difficult to find building entrance. As other mentioned, there are no windows in the unit & the hallway lights will always shine in the unit. Not a big deal, but will never be pitch black.
Host was helpful and responsive. Had a toilet issue that was handled quickly.
Would stay here again.

Cute little loft
Perfect little spot for a trip to the city. Best for adults and able bodied (the single bathroom is up in the loft) Everything was pretty spotless, instructions were clear, furnishing were clean and up to date. Only caveats are: Bring your own sheets if you don't like microfiber and the kitchen is minimally stocked as far as dish and glassware. We would definitely stay again!

Bare Bones
It is so bright with all the lights out that neither of us slept all night (thanks to the internal glass windows facing the hall lights that never go out). There are only half the sheets on the bed. There are no pillowcases. The mattress is unbearably hard. The TV is broken. The building itself has a constant high pitched digital alarm that no one turns on. The building is filthy and reeks of weed and cigarette smoke from the lobby to the front door.
If you’re visiting Richmond for a day and just need a spot just to sleep in, this would be it. And even then, bring a mattress topper.

Great place!
Great experience staying here. Comfy bed. Good kitchen and nice layout. Only negatives were a little hair left over in the bathroom but that could’ve just been a cleaning miss. Faint smell of some sort. I got a plug in and no big deal. Wonderful communication between the owner. Whatever I asked it was answered quickly. I wish more property owners were as good as this one. I do recommend.
