We normally stay in the heart of Zona Romantica but it was quite full so we looked at Centrale and found this place. It basically has two types of room; junior suites which are one bedroom apartments and master suites which are two bedroom apartments... Both have small living areas with a kitchenette. Some have a balcony facing to the outside and some have balconies facing a very small inner courtyard (lift lobby). So that's the facts. We booked a Master Suite 'with views' and were allocated a two-bedroom apartment with a living room that had a window looking into an internal corridor and both (equal-sized) bedrooms opening onto a small internal balcony which basically faced the lifts; it was the only part of the apartment where there was any outside light and where we could get a decent WiFi signal but it quickly got annoying when other guests coming and going stared at us so we eventually gave up on any daylight and turned on data roaming! That was until I woke up the next morning and was literally covered in large red bites/spots... I couldn't work out if I had a bad rash, the world's busiest mosquito had got at me or whether there were bed bugs; my roommate had slept in the other bedroom and had no marks on him at all. We looked up images of bites and they matched the description of bed bugs (some dense clusters of bites and others running in straight lines... also, the sheer volume of them was the final clue). I told reception at Hotel Encino who are supposed to manage the suites (but do nothing other than give keys out) so, as we were next to the housekeepers office, we told her and she came into the apartment, inspected my arms (my whole body was affected but really bad on my arms and in my armpits - ugh!), she looked under the mattress, ripped off the sheets and told us to pack whereupon we were moved to the top floor with a one bedroom apartment with external balcony. This was a much nicer apartment and the bedroom was huge with a sofa and armchairs so we decided to share the bedroom since it got us out of the first one and it seemed clean and was generally fresher with access to outside air and daylight! However, though this apartment was better, it was not the two bedroom apartment with views that we booked and we simply couldn't get over the bed bug issue (partly because the bites got bigger and redder across the remaining 6 nights and they looked awful and I looked as if I had a bad rash or infection). Ugh again! So, if you want space and a good location at the start of the Malecon and very close to beach and Zona Romantica, then this place does tick all the boxes. If however, you want good quality bug-free bedding or fresh air and natural light, then you need to look elsewhere. Sorry, I really wanted to like this place as it seems great value but, as ever, you get what you pay for and this place is NOT too good to be true lol!

This is an old Mexican hotel - It gets some lipstick put on it I can tell, but really needs a full treatment. I booked a room, clearly said it included a balcony - then told it did not (See Pic) - gave me a choice of a single room with 2 doubles and a balcony or the 2 rooms we had but no balcony. We chose the 2 rooms, soon realizing that no balcony also meant no window to the outside! There was windows into a hallway - The room was dark, the lighting was terrible, the showers were worse NO WATER PRESSURE - ladies beware, my wife really had trouble rinsing out her hair, a big issue for her, not so much for my balding head! I did have an issue with the toilet that wound up rotting out and needed repair! BEDS - they sucked, but not unusual for old Mexican hotels, they have no box springs and sit on a cement pedestal. Pillows were terrible - almost went and bought some at Walmart. There are no Blow Driers or Irons in the room, nor are they available from the front desk or housekeeping. The couches were also not very comfortable. Now they do have a kitchen, with Coffee Pot & Dishes - but it is very well noted you have to clean every dish or be charged a small amount. Alas they do not provide any sponges, soap, coffee filters - you have to provide all of those. As many have mentioned, there is no A/C - this can be a huge issue depending on when you are there. If you still want to stay there, the space is in a GREAT Location - I had no problems with staff, they seemed nice - and the room was clean enough, no real problems there - and of course it is cheap. The roof wading pools and area was underwhelming and no real view. It is what it is, during Winter I might go back if I am getting dental work done & need a cheap place, alas my wife will never go back

We booked for Suite Plaza del Rio & ended up staying around the corner at Hotel Encino. You have to check in at Encino & they are supposed to give you keys for Plaza Del Rio. WRONG!!! They said that Plaza Del Rio was booked up and offered us a double bed room with balcony or a room with a king bed & no balcony. We took the double bed. They were twin size beds which were hard. This hotel was nasty. The bathroom & bed had hair in it from the previous guest perhaps. Pubic hairs were in the bed & across the top of the bed behind the pillows. Something bit my legs throughout the night. I left at 5am. Not a good recommendation.

I've stayed here 4 times over a number of years. My 5th stay will be the month of May. Basic, reasonable, clean location situated right in the heart of things. This condominium style rental is perfect. Close to beach, church, malacon, shopping, dining and buses. Nothing fancy but has all you need for a short or an extended stay. The staff are great and you have the choice of the pools here or can go over and use the Encino hotel pool which is larger. Also the food & drink at the bistro by the Encino pool is great, with a great view of the sunset.

This was our first time at the Suites Plaza Del Rio. We were a bit concerned that the lack of air conditioning would be an issue, but there are ceiling fans in every room. This was a fantastic location for our family of four (with two boys under age 7!). It was a fantastic price for a two bedroom, two bathroom suite. The dipping pools on the roof were just right for our little guys. It's a pretty basic hotel, but you can't beat it for the price!

The rooms are large, clean, and comfortable. The rooftop terrace, with a complex of three wading (not swimming) pools is sunny and spacious. The location, near the river that divides El Centro from Zona Romantica, is unusually close and convenient to most attractions in these two famous districts. And the price is very reasonable. There are a few minor annoyances. You have to go to the nearby Hotel Encinito, in order to check-in.The check-in/check-out clerk was on each occasion brusque and officious, And, like at a small minority of hotels in Puerto Vallarta, clients are required to wear one of those annoying, and constricting, plastic wrist bracelets. In this case, it was a garish pink, which was appropriate for a six-year-old child, but not for a mature adult. I was glad that I didn’t have any appointments with serious officials or businesspeople.

We were fortunate enough to get the largest 1 bedroom suite. It was over 800 sq feet and had a long wrap around balcony with access off kitchen and bedroom. Bedroom had a sitting area with two large chairs and tv with satellite. 2 full bathrooms and large living area and open kitchen concept. Daily maid service. Perfect location for shopping many fabulous restaurants in the area. Malecon at night was fun and lots of entertainment. Rooftop terrace at 2 hot tubs and a wading pool for cooling down. No ac but ceiling fans were perfect and there was always a cross breeze. Hotel Encino (main hotel where you check in) had a large pool and rooftop restaurant which you have access to. Would not hesitate to recommend this property.

The restaurant and bar are modern and have a great vibe. HH drinks are 2 x 1 from 1 to 7. Great margs and varied menu. Breakfast was also good. Hotel Double room was very small, but adequate. Unbeatable location one block from Malecon and beaches.

The rooms are old and they show their age but they are huge, some with wrap around balconies. My suite had a bedroom, two bathrooms, and a living room/kitchen area. Maid service every day brought fresh towels and linens. You have to provide your own dish soap/dish towels for the kitchen. They provide cups, bowls, plates, utensils, frying pans, and pots. You check in at the Encino. There are 3 dipping pools on the roof. Excellent, central location right next to the river and a block from the Malecon. There was no AC in my suite but the fans were very powerful. Most days I had wifi in my room but it did cut out for a couple days. The staff at the Encino are very friendly and helpful.

Okay, okay, okay. I know, I gave this property a 5 star rating. I have a different standard. I rate hotels I stay by affordability vs. location vs. rooms. I have other criteria for judging a property, but in this case the Suites Plaza del RIo met all my expectations. The Suites Plaza is a sister property to the EL Encino Hotel. The room was older but clean, just like the Encino. The suite had two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It also had a living room and a kitchen with a fridge It was a little apartment type room. I could see myself living in a space like this very comfortably The Suites Plaza, like the Encino, is centrally located in the heart of the malecon. Everything was within walking distance. At least within walking distance of what I like to do in and around Vallarta. The hotel isn't a resort style property. It doesn't have the ameneties a resort has. Think of it as place you can stash your things while you are out and about. The price for my 5 night stay was a total of $370! They always have deals on all the travel sites. The place is family friendly. Meaning, there's a lot kids running around making noise. Not to worry, you are not gonna be spending a lot of time in the room except to sleep. It's within walking distance of the beach. There's no need to take a cab because everything is within reach. I did not spend anytime in the pool, I didn't even go up to the rooftop to see the pool. I don't go Puerto Vallarta for that. I go to eat, smoke cigars, and drink. Yeah, sometimes not in that order, lol. All in all, the property is well maintained but don't expect luxury. As I've said before, I rather spend the money I would spend on a luxury hotel on my food and drinks. I recommend a stay, but only if you are an experienced traveler who see's the value of place like this. Not people who are looking for infinity pools and beach front rooms. I went to puerto vallarta on 04/20 thru 04/25.
