Hotel Mercurio - Caters to Gay Men

2.5 out of 5.0

Recent guest reviews

A solid, basic hotel in the Mexican style. It attracts great clientele who spend time onsite socializing. The staff are terrific, stopping whatever they are doing to greet you and ask how is your day (right from the hotel manager to cleaning and maintenance staff). There is a great low key bar run by Jorge. Expats, tourists and locals all come to enjoy the bar, courtyard, and small pool. The daily breakfast surpasses most major hotels with specialty cook items as well as eggs made on demand, fresh fruit, and other typical breakfast items. The location is right by the beach, restaurants, shops, etc. it's even walking distance to clubs and other venues, depending on your mood. Finally they recently added food service. This is my home away from home in Puerto Vallarta!

Very close to the boardwalk, restaurants and bars.

Hotel is in need of some repairs. If you want to relax, this is not the place. Loud music going from 3 pm to 10 pm. They do allow outside people into the pool area. Most of the staff are very friendly . Great location and price is excellent. They do have a great breakfast.

Third time staying at the Mercurio. Free breakfast buffet daily, great staff and reasonable prices. There are only 28 guest rooms which makes for a friendly, family type atmosphere.

Phenomenal service, excellent staff. I set my alarm everyday for 9AM so I could go to the courtyard and have coffee and Edgar's homemade omelettes, along with all the other goodies like fresh fruit, cereal, cooked meats and the feeling of being away. In a old, beautiful setting. The hotel is set in a perfect location in the old town Romantico Zone. They also have a bar from 3PM to 10:30PM around the pool daily. A short walk to the beach, the bars, many restaurants or local shops. No more than a 50 peso cab ride. The dollar is very strong right now. About !8 pesos for $1US. Very inexpensive. The gay beach has doubled in size. Blue Chairs has always been the norm but the cafe next door (Ingrids Cafe) or Green Chairs beach has gained a very good reputation among gay men. I went on Saturday and I was amazed on how many guys were at the two beaches. Anything your little heart desires. There are 13 gay bars there now mostly located around the hotel. I definitely want to thank Luis, Victor, Edgar, Ronnie, Jorge and other staff for their hospitality. Don't expect a 5 star hotel but one which is clean, comfortable, safe and serene, beautiful surroundings. I felt special when I checked in and more special when I left. I look forward to my next visit. (My best advice, get a king room on the third floor off the pool!)

Nice hotel, close to everything, the beaches, restaurants and shopping. The Mercurio staff are always attentive to all your questions and needs. I have stayed there 5 times, now. I love the location and the service.

Plus side: breakfast is unbelievably good, fresh with everyday dishes and specialties all cooked to order-all served poolside. Staff is friendly if a bit aloof. Happy hour starts early, if that's your thing. If not, request a room away from the pool or on upper floors. In-room safes are quaint, unmonitored when you're out. Good deal, good price overall.

I have stayed here before, and the staff is the best thing about it. Gabriel, the manager , and everyone else does everything they can to make you feel welcome and part of a family. They are working on room renovations, and I got one of the re-done rooms, which was very nice. They have a new addition- a chef hired exclusively for breakfast, who does some very good work. The breakfast is one of the best things about the Mercurio, since you get to socialize with other guests. The location is perfect- right in the heart of the gay neighborhood. And I would be remiss if I did not mention Jorge, who runs the bar- a very sweet guy who runs a very friendly bar.

very helpful when needed ..knew and would go above and beyond to help you...located in a great location...breakfast in the morning and chatting with other guests the best thank you very gay friendly

I've stayed at this hotel for the fourth time (years) for vacation due to it's excellent staff help and the walking distance proximity to the beach and everything else in town. It's a block away from the beach and they loan you a beach towel each day. They have cooked to your order breakfast every morning btwn 8-11 included in your stay! (not continental...!) The staff speak English and go out of their way to help your stay comfortable. Gabriel is the staff manager and the best. They have approx. 20 rooms, with a pool, and lounge area. Every so often they throw a party by the pool and there is a full bar with happy hour every day around 5pm. The rooms are nice size, and you have to remember this is Mexico where they do with what they have. The walls are not exactly sound proof, but people do respect quiet time. The bathroom has a sink that the cold water is on the left side... found out one day why the water kept runny hot, wrong side... haha The bed was nice and firm. The AC ran very cool with the help of a fan. They also have a key lock safe in every room for your valuables! This is excellent economical hotel for those who just sleep, shower and go. Nothing elaborate for the price, it is great! This hotel is a great place to meet new friends and get info on the area cause they've stayed here many times or years. You have other hotels, restaurants, bars, and stores all in walking distance. Everyone is so friendly in this old town known as the Romantic Zone (Zona Romantica) makes it a fun place to vacation and almost don't want to leave... or come back more often and stay longer next time.

We were looking for a great location in the Zona Romantica to be close to gay activities, beach, shops and restaurants. This was our trip to Vallarta. The location of Mercurio is excellent, a block from the beach, couple of blocks to the gay beach and the Malecon. The hotel is pretty basic--we expected that from other reviews and the reasonable room rate. We could not have been more pleased, the A/C worked great, good Wifi and the Staff were GREAT! From the front desk to the young man making our breakfast we were very pleased. We are going back next year and will stay there again!

Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Close to the bars and eating places. The breakfast in the morning fresh and hot coffee and juice.

If you're looking for a ton of in-room amenities and 5-star comfort, Hotel Mercurio is not the place for you. But if you're budget minded, appreciate a great staff, and can make do without some creature comforts, this is THE place for the LGBT traveler in PV. The staff is amazing (especially Jorge), the Happy Hours are cheap, with great pours and inviting company, and the "Beer, Burgers, and Boys" special happy hour (Sundays only) are a fantastic time. The location is phenomenal, positioned at the center of PV's "gayborhood", less than a block from the beach, and less than a 10 minute walk to some of PV's most popular gay beaches and nightlife. I've booked here again for PV Pride in May, and can't wait to come back.

I love Mercurio and had planned to stay again, sadly the secret is out about this awesome hotel and it books up fast. Rooms are simple but very clean. The staff and location can't be beat. Fresh breakfast included helps make this place the best deal in town.

Central located to beach ,dining ,nightlife and shopping . The staff was excellent , they meet al expectations I would recommend this place to all, I plan on staying there next trip

The location is absolutely fantastic, only one short block to the pier, beach, restaurants, entertainment, ATMS, a great mix of tourist shops (jewelry, souvenirs, Pharmacia, beachwear, etc.) and only three blocks to the famous Blue Chairs section of the beach and even more restaurants, shops and entertainment. I walked the Malecon (beach walk) every day in the morning and afternoon, to see the shops, beach, and street entertainers. The hotel staff told me I was safe walking all around the hotel, and I never felt otherwise. The staff was super friendly, and the hotel owner solved a travel problem for me. Staff otherwise was chatty, welcoming, and good sources of advice. I had a basic room which was plenty for one or two people, with a refrigerator, safe, king sized bed, largish shower, and plenty of hot water. Décor was old fashioned but clean and sufficient. There was free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, but stronger is the common areas. The included breakfast was open air at the small bar, which included plenty of basics such as Mexican pastries, scrambled eggs with ham, refried beans, and at least one cooked meat dish. The bar was open until 10:30 pm daily. The front desk seem to be staffed 24 hours. The guests were all friendly, both at breakfast and the daily happy hour. Some of the happy hours were themed, with serving guys in swim suits or all you can eat hamburgers for a very small fee. Non-resident visitors who regularly come to Puerto Vallarta also came to the happy hours. The hotel was actually quite quiet onsite, although there certainly were street noises, including music and laughter from nearby restaurants. The onsite courtyard was very nice, albeit small surrounding a very small pool. Above all, the hotel was safe, safe, safe! This was my first trip to Puerto Vallarta and I didn't know what I was coming too. This is a proper hotel with no onsite shenanigans in the public space (there is plenty of that nearby if that’s what you want), although guests of residents were welcome if they showed ID at the front desk (for the protection of the residents). This is an adult only, gay hotel, but this definitely was a hotel, and not a bath house. The guests were a mix of singles, couples and small groups of friends. Overall I would stay there again and highly recommend Hotel Mercurio to friends.

Overall I had a great stay at this hotel! The heated pool was an unexpected pleasure, and was definitely taken advantage of for some night swimming! The staff were phenomenal, especially Jorge, the pool bar's tender. He's friend, hilarious, and completely attentive to his guests. It's within walking distance from EVERYTHING. Whatever you want to do that day, you can be there in less than 10 minutes be it the beach, an Asian fusion restaurant, a bar, a fancy nightclub, whatever! However there were some minor inconveniences: I had to ask for the hot water to be turned on to my room, and fan required looking at because it seemed to be coming loose from the ceiling box. The room was a little small for my tastes, but the shower was large and nicely tiled. The A/C and fan kept the room cool, comfortable, and fresh. I'd recommend this location to anyone that wants great value and a fun atmosphere for their gaycation in PV.

The hotel is within walking distance of most of the clubs, beach, resturants and everywhere you want to be in the gay community of PVR.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Mercurio Hotel. The rooms are clean with a fridge. The bed is firmed and big with several pillows. I slept very well every night. The staff is friendly and made feel like home. Every morning I had a delicious breakfast that included a different stew every day and eggs, yogurt, fruit salad, cereal, milk, Mexican pastries, and coffee. The hotel is in the perfect location with a short distance to restaurants, gay bars and the beach. I can't wait to return again.

I've been here many times now. It's perfect location to walk to beaches and bars, the pool and bar at the hotel are great as well. All the staff are very friendly and go out of their way to make you feel at home.
