Sandman Hotel & Suites Prince George2.0 out of 5.0

I stayed here for one night because every other major hotel in Prince George was booked. The staff was professional and courteous. Parking lot was very tight and I parked on the street, which was not an issue. There is a Denny's on site but there are other options next door including Earls and Moxie's. The room was not clean. There was a bug crawling on the bed and some large ants. There were some old French fries under the bed. The room did not have a bar fridge so I was unable to keep any food. Overall, I find this and other Sandman Hotels and Suites (I've stayed at 3 recently) to be significantly overpriced and poorly equipped for a major chain. I didn't see this pattern before but now I will avoid this chain.
This hotel is in a pretty good location. Not too far from the airport and mall and lots of convenience nearby. To get to my room was like going through a maze wrapping around a couple long hallways before finally reaching the front entrance. I was on the "suites side" which was not convenient at all. The room had a kitchenette which was handy but no desk for me to work at so I stood at the counter (no chairs either) or sat on the bed hunched over. Definitely not suitable for a work-related stay. The carpets are filthy and the entire building had an odour to it (and no it wasn't even possibly to blame the pulp/paper mill in this city.) They have a Denny's attached which was very handy for breakfast anytime of the day or for room service for late evenings returning from work. The exercise room is a bit of a joke. Very small with about 4 machines and a few free weights so no more than three people could be comfortable in there at one time. The parking lot is also very cramped so backing out takes a few maneuvers to avoid bumping into anything. I was told there are two Sandman hotels and the other is Sandman Signature - I would recommend trying there over this one - even without seeing the other one! This hotel definitely would benefit from having modern renovations and a major cleaning. I gave one star out of five because the staff are nice and the Denny's!
I booked this hotel mainly because it offered Full Kitchen Suites and I was the team cook for the season and week long Provincial Championships. The room (255) was adequate tho the oven was not full size but apartment size. The space was perfect for my needs with a separate King bedroom and open living/dining/kitchen area. I was able to feed 23 large guys in the room without feeling too crowded. The cleaning staff were TOP NOTCH! They accommodated our team meal schedule and cleaned after the crowd left. While some of the fishes of the hotel were a bit tired, I will certainly stay there again if I find myself back in Prince George!
Between this place and the one in McBride we've stayed at these places probably more than 20 times in the last 8 years on our way to visit family in Calgary...Although the front desk staff are friendly and very helpful. The rooms are dated and overpriced...For a major chain one should expect better...
I tried to have a meal here in December managed to get a seat and after one hour of waiting sadly I had to leave without a meal and only got to drink my coffee. To say something nice this place was super crowded with people and lineups on a Sunday definitely worth a try I will be back
I was here on a course for 2 weeks, and it was.. all right. Plenty of reminders this place is firmly lower middle of the road. Most annoying were the people smoking 2 feet away from both the front and side entrances, so of course the halls and elevators smell like smoke. My room was ok, but sloppy and beat up finishing (cracked tile, carpet rippling in several main traffic areas, poorly repaired holes in walls and baseboards). The shower water and pressure was good at least, and the kitchen had most of the amenities. Bring your own skillet if you want eggs or anything though, and a decent sized bowl, might be able to get 10 cherrios in the bowls provided.. Plenty of pots, though. Used one of those as a bowl. The fridge is noisy, but at least it drowns out the sound of the elevator, which is right across from the room. Loud dings when the opens and closes, that's a good feature to have in a hotel. The walls are pretty thin and you can hear everything that is happening in the next room. The door to the hall seems if anything to amplify sound. The people working the front desk are nice, and the entrance is pretty posh, which makes the conditions in the actual room you are staying in that much more disappointing. Maid service was pretty spotty. I tipped, but didn't seem to make a difference. Still same old crumbs on the carpet, garbages occasionally not emptied or had to request tea towel replacements for the kitchen. Not the end of the world, but annoying. I did my own dishes and cleaned up after myself, a couple passes with a vacuum cleaner isn't too much to ask. TV pretty tiny and crappy channel package, no movie channels (they want you to pay $18 for a pay per view movie). Bed isn't very comfortable.
It was a cold day in early January, the hotel was quiet, however, I was placed in the corner of the hotel above the parking garage. It was freezing cold, the floors were like ice from being over the parking garage I think and maybe from being at the end of the building. The garage door opener woke me all night long, shook my room and was very loud. The refridgerator sounded like there was a tiny man building ice all night long. Then, something they can't control, the person above me started walking on the floors in high heels at approximately 4am for an hour or so. It was a poor stay, room wise, but, having said that, I went down to the front desk, explained everything that happened through the night and they comped my stay for the night. As well, the Denny's restaurant attached to the hotel was down for renovations, which I was wasn't informed of. They told me there is a sign, but I don't enter a hotel looking for a sign to find out if their restaurant is open or not. I have had better stays at this particular hotel, it is normally quite comfortable. I find the rooms clean and the staff friendly and normally it has been quiet. I would stay here again, but pick my room if possible.
This was one of the less than desirable hotels I have stayed at. The location can be viewed as a drawback, right on the highway in a not so great area of town, however, fairly central and close to everything which is nice. I was travelling with my dog, so was placed in a pet friendly room in the suites side. The parking lot is awfully cramped, it was very difficult to park a truck in the lot...it's designed for smart cars and even at that, it's a tough go to park without fear of hitting someone. The room was very dirty, the carpets full of stains, smelled of cigarette smoke. I would not stay here again unless it was an absolute necessity.
Had to spend a week while on vacation and spouse hospitalized. Excellent customer service provided in all aspects. They were very accommodating to our needs. The Sandman chain has never disappointed us.
I was forced to stay here one night while traveling on business since the better hotels in the area were booked. The check in process took forever as we arrived around 5pm and the front desk only had one staff member with about 10 people trying to check in. Once it was my turn the check in process went fairly quick, however they take a high deposit on your credit card for incidentals and repeatedly made me sign papers saying I would not smoke in the room, not a big deal since I do not smoke. Upon arriving to my room the first thing that hits me is an overpowering smell of smoke, since i was only there to sleep I dealt with it. My room was spacious however the bathroom was so small if you were in their you could not shut the door unless you got into the shower to do so. My room had to beds and after climbing into one I noticed a large stain on the sheets and some sort of residue on the pillow cases, so immediately got out of that bed to inspect the other which seemed to be clean. I am glad we were able to get rooms at another hotel as I would not have stayed here a second night.
