Simple, clean and functional. Shared bathrooms were interesting, but worked fine :)

McMenamins mostly converts interesting historic buildings to attractive lodging, dining and entertainment venues. The Crystal Hotel is inexpensive, quiet except on south side garbage mornings, and close to downtown and Pearl district. We have stayed in this hotel twice: the rooms were small, toilet and shower are shared close by down the hall. The young staff is very helpful and gives good advice about enjoying Portland. Parking in a city parking lot is two blocks away and was $18 for 24 hours. Most hotels nearby are $200 and up, so we will be back.

I got to the room and it was so musty i started having an allergic reaction... itchy eyes and ears. I am allergic to molds so i asked for a refund and the hotel staff agreed. I left after 15 minutes and booked at another hotel.

Nice place but now i know why they have earplugs in every room doors very loud

This hotel got the rating I gave it because the decor is super cute and staff were nice. I also liked the location--close to everything. I did not like the tiny bed pillows, did not like that you do not have your own bathroom or toilet--its all shared and the bathrooms were not the cleanest. The room had no tv and because of the location was SUPER LOUD; I was awakened by a trash truck at like 3 in the morning--literally no sound proofing on the windows. The room was very clean but it's so darn small--its cute but I wouldnt stay again.

Noisy & bad!!!!! I am not happy woth the room being so noisy

Affordable and a block from Powell’s Books. Funky charm. I didn’t partake of the soaking pool but everything else was clean and convenient.

I loved this hotel! The only criticism I have is that it was cold that night, and the room was very cold when I entered. The heater didn't appear to be working correctly even after adjusting the thermostat. About 30 minutes after adjusting the thermostat, the heat actually came on. Once the room was at the desired temperature, it was perfect. Overall, this was a great hotel with attentive staff, and an ambiance that was unparalleled! When in Portland, I will definitely stay here again! Thanks!

The hotel itself was really nice but I wouldn't stay here again. The room is small with no TV and the major deal breaker was the community bathroom. There aren't any showers or toilets in the room.

Rooms are sweet. No TV, shared (very nice) bathrooms. Good food on premises. Great location. The only reason they didn't get a 5 for staff was a male bartender behind the bar when I was seated for dinner at 9 pm (they close at 10 pm). I couldn't overlook his attitude because it was so directed at me and grumpy. The servers were delightful.

I am deeply sorry for the recycling noise in this area, and specifically during your stay with us. We have other options in the hotel, if you decide to stay with us again in the future. We appreciate your feedback, and completely understand your feelings.

Thank you for this review! Sorry about this grumpy bar staff, there's reason to be grumpy or have an attitude, this place is magical, we'll have to correct that. You'll have to come back and visit with us, we're aiming for all 5's. Thank you!
