I was in need of a room in Perth and I found the Salutation Hotel from my LateRooms.com app. I booked a room and as the evening approached I found a car park nearby and walked into the hotel. I soon found out that The Salutation hotel is part of the Strathmore hotel group and I've stayed in two of their hotels before. The Nethybridge Hotel near Aviemore and The Alexandra Hotel in Fort William. They were both very top class hotels and I saw that the Salutation was also up to the mark. I checked in and found my splendid room. A nice, big double bed and a squeeky clean bathroom with a good shower. I watched tv for an hour and then went out to find some food and to check out some real ale in Perth. Once my mission was successful I strolled back to the Salutation Hotel and my cosy bed. I'd had a long day and I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. I slept fine in the lovely double bed and I must say that the morning was most unwelcome. I could have slept for England but I had to wake up and get on with whatever surprises that were in store for me. The shower did a great job of waking me up and making me feel human again. The freshly cooked breakfast gave me the energy to get on with my day so I checked out and went and found my car. The Salutation Hotel was a lovely place to stay in Perth and that makes three of the seven Strathmore Hotels that I've had the pleasure of staying in. The next time I need a room in Perth I know where I'll be calling.
Can you pass on my heartfelt thanks to everyone of the Hotel staff who took part the Burns night. They were very professional in everything they did before, during and after the event. It's hard to pick out any individual however the young lad who was in charge behind the scenes and in the front house was absolutely fantastic in his organisation and manner. I can't remember his name I do apologise for that. The guests that stayed over thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality and how accommodating and friendly the staff were to them and are looking forward to coming back soon. I hope all your staff enjoyed the evenings event also because they made the night go like clockwork and run very smoothly. I look forward to the Black Watch (RHR) WOs and Sgts past and present dinner in April and also the Croix de Guerre Dinner in September. The Croix de Guerre Dinner especially as that's the 100th Anniversary and we should hopefully have a packed Salutation for this event. If anyone is planning a wedding or other large scale event (even a smaller party) I would recommend this hotel as their management, professionalism and attention to detail is second to none.
Great staff, really helpful when we were stranded due to snow. Extended our stay without any problems or issues and helped us organise transport to get home. They provided us with a room to work in and extra meals for over a dozen people. Would highly recommend
Hotel was in a great location for the centre of Perth and car park just beside the hotel which is a pay & display. We stayed here in a family room for 1 night. Our room was a big room with comfy beds must have been one of the upgraded rooms. Bathroom was a good size too with a lovely hot shower. The only thing with it being an old hotel it is not double glazed so drafty windows but the thick curtains helped when they were shut. We stayed with our dog as the hotel is dog friendly, when we got to our own room on arrival their was a dog treat and dog blanket for our dog which was a very nice touch. We decided to have our tea in the hotel as it was a very cold night. They were only serving food in the bar area which isn't the biggest area tables are quite close to each other. I had the macaroni cheese I was disappointed it tasted like it had been reheated dried up and they just stuck heaps of cheese on the top to try and disguise it. Dessert was also not overly tasty either. Our son asked for chocolate ice cream with strawberry sauce, he got the chocolate ice cream but no strawberry sauce it was like they just weren't paying any attention to our son at all. My husband ordered the 4 cheeses board which comes with Oatcakes. What he got was 3 types of cheese and crackers no oatcakes at all. When I queried this with the waitress she didn't even know that it came with oatcakes she didn't even apologise. Also when I went up to the bar to pay the bill the other waiters that were at the bar didn't know either. Surely if you worked here that you would know the menu. The atmosphere in the bar area was a bit stilted, wasn't nice to eat and relax so we just ate our meal and left back to our room. Breakfast. The waitresses were very nice at breakfast time one of them was very nice and happy also acknowledged our son which the night before didn't happen with the other ones. Plenty of choice for cooked breakfast options, but not much choice for continental breakfast was cereal of course but the croissants were individually wrapped but they were not fresh or soft. I don't think this hotel was worth what we paid for it. We have paid less to stay in better hotels with better breakfasts. The updated rooms are really nice but you could get better staff for evening meals. It also says it's family friendly but we were the only family in it and it didn't feel very family friendly.
We had lunch in the bar recently. An extensive menu and generous, well cooked meals. The ambience was comfortable with people coming and going. It was nice to see this old hotel so busy and looking great.
We stayed at the Salutation on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis thanks to a Groupon deal. After reading some reviews, we weren't sure what to expect, but we certainly weren't disappointed. Our room appeared to be one of those which had already been revamped - it had a huge, comfy bed and was clean and well equipped. Yes, we could hear creaking floorboards from the room above, but it didn't stop us enjoying a great night's sleep. Our dinner was very nice with a decent selection of dishes to choose from and the buffet breakfast in the morning was excellent. No complaints there. We found all members of staff friendly and helpful and would certainly choose to stay at the Salutation again. It's in a great central location and there is plenty of parking nearby.
A friend and I went into the hotel at 8am hoping that we would be able to have a full cooked breakfast. That was absolutely no problem to them and the attention we received from the lady in the dining room was first class. The choice from the buffet was extensive and everything was fresh and properly cooked. Considering the fact that we were not expected and also the fact that we were not spending very much money our treatment couldn't have been better. We will go there again, and not just for breakfast.
Booked this hotel for a short stay in Perth. The hotel was in a great location within the city, right in the main hub. There was plenty of parking next door to the hotel. First impressions of the hotel was that it was cosy and welcoming. We had a family room which was a really good size and comfortable but the room decor was tired and in need of an up-date. The hotel was very busy and had a nice atmosphere. The food in the hotel was good and the staff were very friendly. It is an old hotel and therefore creaky floor boards are expected but the noise of floor boards creaking was quite prominent and I heard this late into the night. Apart from the creaking floor boards we had a nice stay and although I would say the hotel does need a bit of a make-over I would have no hesitation in staying here again when in Perth.
I would just like to thank manager Gordon Paterson and all his staff for a great weeks entertainment during January competitive room rates, clean and tidy rooms and great breakfast in the mornings and great evenings in the bar after the competitors relaxed after a hard days curling
A last minute booking for 2 nights DBB in a superior twin room. Room a bit tired. If that was the superior would liked to have seen the basic. But it was clean and the beds were comfy. Every member of staff we care across could not have been more pleasant and helpful. Food on both evenings was excellent as was breakfast. Very central for everything in Perth. Lots of pubs shopping etc on ur doorstep. I believe they are working there way round refurbishing the rooms. Which would be a great bonus. But all in all would go back as really enjoyed my stay. Top marks for all the staff
