Had chosen this hotel for its location and space, which is good. Location is nearby to great food and there’s a great view from the window. Room is spacious too. Disappointing part is the poor quality and the poor maintenance of the hotel. This is not the first time penang experiences heavy downpour. Guess what? On 4th November it rained while day and it’s heavy downpour. By around 11pm onwards my room started the process of flooding. The water started leaking through the lower window towards the work desk. Then the ceiling started leaking and the living room area is wet. And best of all, ALL ROOMS ARE HAVING SAME PROBLEM. So according to the staff, changing of room is not a solution. And till 1:30am in the morning nothing can be done. I WILL NEVER EVER RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANYONE AND WILL NEVER EVER STAY IN THIS HOTEL AGAIN! Last part!! There are cockroaches in the hotel room up level 27. Cleanliness is definitely a big failure!!!

A huge disappointment indeed upon arrival to Penang. Booked a airport transfer with the reservations manager in advance and she mentioned that the driver will be holding a board with my name at the airport. Arrived in Penang and there was no driver to be seen. Hanged around the gate for 15 mins and ended up deciding to take a airport taxi instead which turns out to be cheaper. Arrived at the hotel and feedback to the lady at the check-in counter. She absolutely gave no attention/ concern about our feedback. Said will get back to us after checking but no news at all from any staff. She kept speaking to us in malay even though we told her we do not understand the language at all. The hotel room has a really nice interior design and the bathroom design was amazing too. Absolutely enjoyed the jacuzzi bath tub. The sea view is pretty too. However, it was a pity because the floor boards were loose and even made a cracking sound when being stepped on. The floor board outside our toilet was even leaking water when we stepped on it. Again, feedback to the same lady which mentioned she will send up a maintenance team to check. She gave a attitude as if we were a huge bother to her. No maintenance came at all to check the room. The bedsheets had weird stains and were dusty. For people with sensitive nose like me, beware. Spotted a cockroach near the mini fridge as well. The swimming pool was really nicely designed. Again, a pity that the water was dirty and quite murky. Took a short 5 mins dip and our skin became itchy. There were hair and tree branches in the water as well. The breakfast spread was not fantastic at all. The coffee and tea served were really bland. They pre-cook their eggs and just leave it at the counter for guests to take. My husband requested for scrambled eggs and the chef just pointed at a omelette that is cold and has been left unattended for a while. They refuse to make a fresh one. The plate warmer at the cafe doesn't even warm up at all. The interior design of the room and swimming pool is amazing. But sadly it is not being maintained really well neither does it have any basic customer service. The hotel lobby is always empty compared to the huge human traffic at the next door hotel which provides suites as well. If the hotel is being maintained well, I believe there will be returning happy customers. The staff just don't even try or have the passion to work anymore. Needless to say, I will definitely not book this hotel on my next visit to Penang.

Spontaneously visited Penang. Read reviews online and decided to give it a try. Booked this hotel online less than 24 hours before visit with approx RM200. Ended up to be greatly impressed with the space of the room for 2, and awesome seaview! Car park to lobby has indecent smell. Driving in and out the hotel will need to validate for guest's free parking every time. Front line in lobby didn't have the welcoming smiles, but they were very efficient. Getting into the room, was super impressed. It's like an apartment space. There is living hall, bed room, toilet with jacuzzi and walk in closet; although the jacuzzi is not working coz cannot store water. There is also an 2nd toilet in living hall; but I found cigarette butt on the floor from previous guest, despite us staying in non-smoking level. Went for the complimentary breakfast buffet. Super full house, but was managed well by the front of house( I suppose is also the manager). We were placed on a table of 6, sharing table with another couple. Great teamwork among the staffs in the restaurant itself. Buffet freshness and varieties were adequate. No one should miss the morning swim in the level 9pool. Even if you don't swim, resting by the pool/ taking some great pictures is very worth it! To conclude, if you're looking for a great comfortable hotel to rest, dont mind the small issues, this is one of the best Ive tried in Penang. Dont wish to go around. Just wanted to stay in the hotel for whole day if possible. Highly recommended!

Hello there.... penang is my favourite state .. my dad was born there. I loved the hotel suite room. very much.. was greeted by Mr RAJ FRONT DESK MANAGER... excellent service... and shows empathy and concern of my well being... I was not too well.. and he made my stay very relaxed and comfortable... will be the hotel soon next month... so i really hope to see RAJ there... pls send him my heartily greetings..

I stayed in the junior suite room 2903  I was welcomed to this place with great customer service and requested to do a decoration for my girlfriend's birthday and it was amazing was even given a cake  I specially want to thank Mr raj for taking good care of me when I was there and all those whom served me and did the decorations I will recommend this place to many people whom I know  Thanks

Came in tired after a long drive. Was greeted very well by Mr. Raj the Duty Manager. Assisted us with all our needs efficiently. Check was fantastic and super by Zizie and Nurul. Looking forward to come back here again soon for my next stay. #excellenthospitalityservice

The rooms is spacious and the Northam Hotel Staffs are very helpful and friendly. The buffet is prefect and the facilities are well maintain. The hotel is strategically located in Georgetown which easy accessible

This is the worst hotel in Penang. Cocaroch every where Very very dirty I don't recommend it for any one. Even single hour. Moreover, room service is the lowest service you may think ever. Staff are very nice. This is the only things they have.

The main problems I had with my stay were: cockroaches, a broken room safe, malfunctioning light controls, a dirty bathroom with severely leaking shower, and water-damaged floorboards with a musty/moldy smell in the room and furniture. My family arrived at night and, within a minute of entering the suite, one of my children says "what's that?" I peer closer and sure enough, it is a cockroach. I immediately set about turning on all the lights to get a better look around. I soon realized that a number of the lights don't work. When I inspected the bathroom, there was urine on the toilet seat! Dried. Under the toilet seat. I'm feeling pretty insecure about my surroundings by this point but I'm trying hard not to upset my family. I couldn't keep quiet about the jacuzzi tub however. There was orange residue in there that I could not identify. It was very disconcerting. I had to call the front desk for extra towels and to replace a hairdryer that was clearly missing from its wall mount. Evidently the hotel had also run out of conditioner, a fact that was corroborated by members of my party staying in other rooms. We soon found out that the electronic room safe was broken, the shower leaked water from its foundation, and the floorboards are warped from water seeping up under the living area. The next morning, we asked the concierge to have someone fix the room safe and change the blown light bulbs in the room. When we returned in the evening, the lights worked but the safe was still broken. We learned from our friends who checked into two other rooms at the Northam that broken room safes and cockroaches were a common denominator in other rooms as well. After catching two more cockroaches, it was time to sleep. Except, all the lights wouldn't turn off! ALL the lights! "Just pull the room key out of the front door slot" someone suggested. I tried three times, waiting patiently for at least five minutes between tries to no avail. I left the room key out of the slot but no amount of punching of buttons on the master controls or the wall switches would induce any of the lights to turn off. Finally, at my wits end, we went to bed with all the lights on. At some point in the middle of the night, the lights finally decided to turn off on their own accord. By the third day, the housekeeping staff finally learned to leave some extra towels for us to mop up the after-shower flooding from the leaking shower stall. I noticed that the musty smell that prevailed in our room had permeated all of our luggage and clothing. We had pre-arranged to transfer over to another hotel midway through our Penang visit, where we arrived "smelling like the Northam" for a few days. I have already made a note to management that room 3006 should not be rented out again until proper renovations are completed. Was there anything good about this "4 Star" hotel? A few things: 1) there is a beautiful waterfront view, 2) the infinity pool on the 9th Floor provides a great way to cool off in the afternoon, 3) the complimentary mixed Western and Malaysian breakfast buffet was quite good and 4) the bell hop Sandran was exceptionally courteous and helpful. But I will not stay here again. This is my third attempt to submit a review for this stay as my previous submissions ("accepted" by TripAdvisor) appear to have gone missing.

Cockroaches in room on floor 27! Hotel did nothing, and I have just read other reviews that have said the same, wish I saw this before booking. Decor tired and dated, look at photos from guests and decide quality yourself! Floor boards health hazard. Towels and bedding are old and worn. Smokey smell despite being a no smoking floor. Good views to sea but windows are filthy and didn't feel comfortable leaning on glazing. Seriously do not recommend, particularly for those from U.K. Positives, large rooms and good location.
