The stay was fine, decent room, clean and okay. However, our nightmare starts when it comes to the day we have to check out from the room. We had a 2 days 1-night stay. On the 2nd day morning, my husband went out to meet some friend and I am supposed to check out from the hotel at 12 noon. They issue us 2 room card which is fine. We use one to slot into the card area for the air cond the room lights, one card is for use. Husband went out that morning without taking the room card with him. Well, it was fine for us since he was supposed to return only at 12noon. However, he came back earlier than we planned. He reached hotel lobby at 11.30am, he called me to pick him up as he doesn't have the room card with him. Okay, so went down to the lobby and bring him up to our floor. Came back up and found that we are denied from entering the room (room card cannot read). Tried a few time and then have to go all the way down to the lobby to find out what happened. It turns out that our room card was blocked from entering as we are supposed to "checkout" on that day. I ask " Aren't your check out time is 12noon? Now is only 11.35am? " The front desk staff did not answer to my question and just say " I have reactive your card" ... Never mind, less than 5 minutes after we let ourselves back to the room, front desk call up to "remind" us to check out. Do you have to call us so many times for it? 1 time in the morning at 9 am and now after you lock us out?! Fine... Off we go to checkout. Our flight was 7.20pm on that day, so during the checkout, my husband asked if we leave our luggage with them while doing some sightseeing around ... To our surprise, they just say "No"... We ended up having to carry our luggage with us at the time while visiting Penang Hill, have lunch, etc. We even have to cancel some of the places as it will be a hassle for us to visit by bringing along the luggage bag. Our mini getaway to Penang was ruined by this hotel. Never will I return to this hotel. By the way, with their service, they should call it a MOTEL instead of hotel.
Background: 2nd time staying here. Cleanliness in room has deteriorated. Training in House keeping is badly needed. Positive: - staffs tried to be friendly. They did try. - there’s room for improvement Negative: - floor and table of room i just checked-in are not properly cleaned, strands of hair here and there. - thin duvet has a very musky smell, though sheet and duvet cover are fresh, the musky smell fr duvet was unbearable. - no room slippers and iron and ironing board unless you call to ask. - couldn’t find hair dryer and called reception only to realised it’s placed in the same drawer as the drinking cups. I don’t think it’s appropriate, shows the (lack of) understanding of hygiene. - 2 sets of tooth brush in room but one has already been torn open and tooth paste missing leaving the toothbrush. Hygiene and thoroughness is lacking. - ask for extra 2 bottles of water (as it was too late to go out of hotel to buy), they charge 2 ringgit each bottle. I bought 2 anyway as i was desperate. Yes after my gentle complaints on the above , they still had the cheek to charge me for 2 bottles of water. - the bathroom shower head was installed in an awkward position as such that once shower head is turned on, water leaks out of shower area unless tilted at an angle. In summary, hope the management will take these comments and help improve the experience. It’s a good location and staff are mostly friendly. So it’ll be a let down if these basic training on hygiene cannot be improved. Thanks
The front desk lady working 12noon shift on 20 July and around on 22 July at 330pm is extremely rude and shouldn’t be placed at the front desk if the hotel wants to keep guests coming back. She roll her eyes, raise her voice and shake her head to a simple question. This is followed by rude comment made loudly among her and other Indian colleague. I do hope the management look into this seriously and urgently
For this price with this quality, I wish I can rate 6 ⭐️ Quiet, clean, tidy, spacious, friendly staffs & the location is the best! Food stalls & restaurants are within walking distance. If you are driving then this hotel is the best choice, the carpark is very special tho... 😉
I was out in Penang recently and booked into the rather new Mei Hotel at Jalan Abu Siti ~ I booked the Winter Suite (which is in the Studio Suite). The first thing you will notice about Mei Hotel (if you drive) is that it is the only hotel in Penang with a lift for your car (you actually drive your car into the giant lift that brings you and your car up to the multi-storey parking garage as there are limited street-side parking. Staff at the hotel were courteous and friendly. I got my room rather quickly as they are able to located my bookings. The room is rather big - although listed only at 28 sqm (I thought it is at least 30 sqm ++), comes with a small kitchenette with a mid size refrigerator, a twin induction cooker, and a microwave oven, a work table and a super comfortable king size bed. The bathroom is average - comes with a separate standing shower, full toiletries set - toothbrush, shaver, cotton buds, and shower caps. Only thing I didn't like too much about the bathroom is that the toilet bowl is build on top of a little 2" pedestal (not sure why) but for people who does not have long legs, it kinda felt a little weird. My room had the sea-view although the sea is quite a distance away. Lift at the hotel were fast - although I am staying on the 15th Floor ~ Mei Suites Floor, you're able to get a lift in less than 30 seconds. The hotel also boost a lovely viewing deck and if you're up there during the evening / night, you will get a splendid view of the various towers in Penang lighted up. Breakfast is RM 13+ for hotel guest and I would say it is just average. For my breakfast, I had fried noodles, chicken wings, and omelette. Apart from these items, there is a plain porridge and breads. Overall I would suggest if you're staying here ~ there are a lot better breakfast just within walking distance of the hotel. One of the plus point for this hotel is its location ~ strategically right in heart of Georgetown and with easy walking distance to a number of famous Penang street food - Siam Road Char Koay Teow, New Lane Street Food, ZimSum Restaurant, Pelita Nasi Kandar, Seow Fong Lye Cafe at Macalister Lane, Jiao Sai Mamak, New World Food Court, Nagore Road, and many more. Mei Hotel has a gym for those who wanted to work out maybe after all the food outings. I would say I would strongly recommend Mei Hotel to those who are in town looking for a day or two of food hunting or for business visit.
Stay there for 3 nights, good location with dimsum across the hotel. Room size is good, friendly staff. Arrived for check in 2am with no hassle, check in done within 15min. Very friendly staff. Location is good too with eatery within 5-10min walk away. Convenient store around as well. However , Housekeeping to be improve strands of hairs on the floor, basin and bathroom floor too. Sound proof is not that good as you can hear everyone walking along the corridor and “door slamming” effect whenever someone enters or leave the room. Overall was good for a short stay.
I am currently staying in this hotel for the 2nd time, where I realized the cleanliness is at risk. Arrived with glass divider full of stain and the floor is very sticky. Then after 5 days of staying with not much of changes, I decided to wait and see of how they clean it which to my surprise: - provide 2 water - take our trash but some of small trash that fell remains there - provide fresh towel - mop only the room without any vacuum or sweeper usage, so you could see the same trash on the day you walk in are visible SO to speak...despite the great location, friendly front desk and nice room, cleanliness for people who mostly stay for medical treatment is not being taken care at all. Please dear Manager who read this to really put attention of your housekeeping team. They come in 2 persons but do not make any work realization that fits into their real job desc. We live in a hotel not at a college dorm.
Hotel looks new, nice lobby decoration. Room was clean and tidy. But, pillow sheet and bed cover a bit smelly, seem like not use for long time or not wash properly. Hotel location was good, a lot of food court nearby.
Stayed for 1 night. Location was perfect. Staff very friendly and helpful. Wifi is super fast (up to 30mbps). I got early checked in at 12 noon. Spacious room with basic amenities such as hair dryer, toiletries, iron & coffee making facilities. Very clean and comfortable King Koil mattress. Love the non-smoking policy. However, bathroom water pressure was very weak, need to improve. Sound proof is worst, can easily hear people walking and talking from inside room. DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL Their staffs are full of scam, I stayed here for 2 nights giving deposit of RM50. When I was checking out, they try to take all of my deposit for a dirty towel (picture attached). It was a powder and coffee mark, which are easily washable, and it is a towel anyway right?!? We don't want to make a trouble so we just pay for the charge, however they do not want to give us a a receipt, we have to FORCE them to give us the receipt.
