Indeed this was a very very old hotel. We came to penang for our 24 years married anniversary. We disappointed with the conditions of the rooms that was provided us. But things changes due to the attentive of the manageress Ms Kala and the Hotel management done some changes for us. We have a good two night stays. Thank you once again.
It was a short escape for us to go Penang this month. Truthfully, I have a preferred hotel that I like and always stay when i'm in Georgetown, however, that hotel occupancy is fully booked, and what's left is rooms with ridiculously priced. So we decided to give Georgetown city hotel a try! The room pictures, the price, and the location blew us away!! We're fairly impressed! Near to hospital (not that we need that) near to gurney drive, near to several temple, and good haven. And all are within walking distance (as long as you don't mind 15-20mins walking) Upon arrival, due to the proximity to mid point mall, and the available of some shanty restaurant and stall, the facade does look abit old and rundown, we proceed to park our car in yet again, a dimly lit rundown carpark area. Luckily when we gone up to the lobby, thing changed slightly, and staff were some what friendly and attentive. Once we got our room key,and entering our room, everything is as nicely shown as in the picture and the view we got is just simply amazing. If you look at the room generally and don't pay attention to the details, I would have easily given this place a four star. But upon closer inspection, there's paint chips, stains, faulty remote control for tv, and a sense of being in a very aged hotel. The horror (kinda over exaggerating ) start at the bathroom. The bathroom is badly maintained in compare to the rest of the rooms. Stain basin, bathtub, shower head and toilet both, yes it's probably clean, but it certainly doenst look so. So if there's something you guys could improve, you guys should definitely start with the toilet.
It was a nice experience to stay at Georgetown City Hotel . Rooms furnitures look old , bed is good ( i can say OK ) , just classified as classic hotel . Buffet Breakfast was nice , and i saw a lot of fruits . Overall i can rate 7/10 It was nice experience to stay in this hotel :)
Actually nice hotel, near from Adventist Hospital, Internet Facilities availiable, nice room and near from food area around penang. We aren't take a breakfast because we have leave the hotel early in the morning for registration at Adventist Hospital. Arroun Hotel we can find storemart like Seven Eleven, KFC, 24 Store, Gas Station and other store to support us if we would like to eat.
Well, I had to go to Adventist Hospital early. It's just across the road. So I booked a single room with a 'city view'. For two nights, I didn't care. Check in was very friendly and efficient. My room was perfect for me. Not large, but tea and coffee making facilities, private safe, bathroom toiletries, and a slim tv on which I could get a BBC news channel. And, yes, I was on the 19th floor and I did indeed have a lovely city view. Gurney Plaza and Gurney Paragon are within walking distance. Sorry. Didn't use restaurant in hotel as so many food options in the Gurney area. Taxis easy to get if needed. I paid a good price. I was a very happy guest. Even if I don't have a hospital appointment I would stay there again!
It is very convenience staying here while you have to accompany a family member or relative who is undergoing treatment at Adventist Hospital. The hotel and furniture is quite old and the room is spacious, but the location above just right. Breakfast selection is standard from bread, egg station, rice and dishes, cereals desk, noodle soup and rice porridge, salad bar and coffee tea. For you who would like to explore more Georgetown, better choose to stay near Komtar the bus central station right in the city center.
Good place to stay with family n friends as the location is near to major shopping mall n gurney drive. It also easy access to Batu Ferringhi with a short drive. Many food choice around. Like the pool can let's kids to play around.
Superb location, average service, peaceful area. Hotel a little old, but it's worth the price. Located infront of Adventis Hospital. Will come back. Super slow internet. Next to market that sell yummy food and fresh fruit.
Nothing overly flash about this hotel, and they took a "holding fee" out of my bank account without telling me prior, which left me a bit short of spending money. When approached about this I was told "sorry about that, there's nothing we can do, you'll have to call your bank", which obviously being in a foreign country is a bit hard! So just be warned if you're using a debit card, the money won't be back in your account for 2-3 weeks. They're also a little bit out of the way of the central hub, so will have to travel to the attractions. Bed was comfy though.
Great value for the price we paid. Beautiful view over looking Georgetown, Penang. Service was good, but a little slow, elevator needs to be replaced or updated very slow. Rooms were clean, but not immaculate. This was a good hotel for $46 a night.
