Mercure Paris Gare De Lyon TGV4.0 out of 5.0

This is not one of the best Mercure hotels we have stayed in. It is an older, unattractive building which has been renovated largely on the cheap. Everything was satisfactory but no more. Good location for Gare de Lyon.
This hotel has a terrible uncomfortable bed and the rooms are also very hot with poor air conditioning. You will struggle to get a good nights sleep here. However, it is in a very convenient location with good travel links to the rest of Paris.
Booked this hotel for a day as we were travelling by TGV the next day and had substantial luggage after three weeks. The hotel is adjoining the Gare de Lyon station, you exit from the hotel door and enter the train station hence extremely convenient. The room is not great but is adequately furnished with a 42 inch flat TV, a study table and has a tea coffee maker. The bathroom is neat and the king size bed was comfortable. The Siene river is about 4 mins walk from the hotel and if you cross the bridge the metro station is just across. You can use the Metro to travel to Notre dam Church, louvre or other tourist attractions. There are plenty of eating options around the hotel with a decent Italian restaurant just across. We had breakfast at the hotel which was decent with a fairly good spread available. Would definitely recommend this place for a short stay if you have to take a TGV.
The laminate on the desk had come off, generally the room looked worn and run down. The single beds were narrow and very hard so I was unable to sleep. We were made to wait for our room which I guess is fair enough but I knew the room was ready. This was hard after a 12 hour flight and feeling exhausted. Have stayed here before but not again...not a pleasant experience.
A decent, well-sized room, complete with a Nespresso machine to gladden the heart of any caffeine addict! Incredibly convenient for the Gare de Lyon and trains south - on this occasion to Turin and Rome, Only sorry we didn't think to come here en route to Barcelona recently!
Next to Gare de Lyon and close to Le Bus to CDG Airport. The hotel provides lockers to keep stuff during trip to other city before back to Paris again. Room is a bit small but acceptable. Security of hotel is good as entrance and elevator need key access.
We had only one night to spend between arriving on the Eurostar and catching the TGV south the next day. This hotel is perfectly situated to make the train transfer stress free. We were checked in effficiently and in such a friendly and helpful manner, it was a delight after the travelling. The room was light, very clean and although small had the bonus of an opening window so you didn't have to be stuck in air-conditioning.Breakfast the next day had plenty of choice. Would recommend and stay again.it would be a practical base to stay and spend some more time in Paris.
This Mercure property should be a 4 star hotel. Well, it is and it is not. It is a very good hotel because: it has all "necessary" features (including a gym), it offers a good breakfast, acceptable bath amenities, the position is excellent in order to access all Paris. During summer they would also offer a refreshing juice to people entering the hotel. It is thus very suitable for business trips (when access to transport and a good breakfast are most important). It is an average hotel because it is expensive for what it offers, the rooms are small compared to what one could expect from a 4 star hotel. WiFi is sometimes problematic. Service is also "in between". A little bit more than 3 star (see the juice offered at reception) but not a 4 star (check-in and check-out can take a lot of time and I also had an issue with getting my accor points). So, as conclusion: - this is a 4 star hotel in Paris. And this is mainly because it is better than the 3 star hotels in same area. Actually it is a 4 star "parisian" hotel. Not a 4 star "global" hotel - it is a suitable hotel if you are in Paris for business. For this, I recommend it - Accor hotels have a lot of properties in Paris, and a great (Paris) market experience. This hotel is a proof for that: great positioning in the Paris market. Never deceived, yet never a "great deal" - I would give it 4/5 (overall I was happy with this hotel) but I am a rather big person so the (small) dimension of the room give me an unpleasant feeling
We stopped here for an overnight to be next to train station as we had an early start the next day. We enjoyed our stay and it was clean, staff were friendly and we were surprised to be told that breakfast was included as we hadn’t expected that. All in all a very handed albeit slightly basic hotel.
We stayed in the 4th floor and the Wi-Fi range there was too bad.. when we told this in the reception, they said they would send some technician to get it resolved.. the technician came and said the Wi-Fi range isproper in his phone and left us with no solution.. When asked for any road routes and attraction nearby, the reception staff clearly gave am answer "I don't know" without even making a try.. Room is OK.. English language is a BIG barrier here.. You must learn French and go..
