Went for a 4 night stay here. Looks nothing like it does on here or on booking.com it says we were to pay €277 for the 4 nights ended up paying €477 for the room and breakfast and city tax! Room was clean just very very small my bathroom at home is bigger than the room we had, just tripped over one another! Location not great, not near anything. Breakfast which me paid nearly €100 euros for for the 4 nights was just cold croissants and hard baguettes nothing hot or fresh coffee. Wouldn't recommend. Would have rather paid extra and stayed further in the city. After seeing reviews of money being stolen we bought a padlock and locked everything in the suitcase.
Checked in yesterday after booking through Groupon. Left cash in the locked hotel room, inside luggage. Big mistake, since we went to use our cash this morning and it was all gone. When we were out, they make you give them the room key card. Sometime when we were out someone used the card to get into the room, go through our luggage, and steal a large amount of cash... Do not stay at this hotel. They did nothing when we reported the theft, assured us they had never had issues with it before yet obviously that is a lie. Don’t stay here!
The front desk, the housekeeping, the managers.. someone is stealing and has been. Read the reviews. These scumbags are criminals and should be shut down. The police have been told what happens under their roof. This is a total scam. Absolute abuse of tourists. Boycott them. May they fail. Totally sad and transparent. Do not go here. Keep your money !!
After a horrendous experience with Airbnb and almost non-existent help from Airbnb's customer service team my colleagues and I needed to find somewhere to stay in central Paris and fast. We scoured the internet and travel sites but because of fashion week and a music festival almost everywhere was booked. We happened upon hotel le canal nearing the end of a very arduous, hot and sticky day, and frankly the welcome we received from the reception staff was nothing short of marvellous. They made us feel extremely welcome, tried to solve our accommodation dilemma and couldn't do enough for us. We booked for a triple room and were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness, the super comfortable beds (singles) and the decent sized shower room which for Paris is a rarity. We also had a kettle and tea bags and coffee in our room. There was a buffet breakfast option which we didn't go for but am sure it would have been fine. The hotel has all the facilities you need for a short trip in paris. Absolutely GREAT location - superbly connected by 3 metros - crimee / riquet and Stalingrad so you can get around within 30mins to most of the city. Great array of bars and restaurants and lovely walks just at the back of the hotel. The hotel building is on top of one of the metro lines so every now and then you hear the rumble of the underground but I live in a huge city and that happens where we are so it wasn't a shock to me. Would happily stay here again. Have already made enquiries for my next trip. Thanks so much hotel le canal. You really helped us out of a horrid situation.
Feel like i have survived an ordeal. As a non smoker I detest room which reek of smoke and this room did despite being labelled as a non smoking room. Clearly the last occupants believe that the sign applies to everyone but them, Breakfast is bleak -it is set down in the basement and is a dismal affair Ate there one day only The only saving grace of this Hotel is its closeness to the Metro
I booked this hotel for a weekend away with my partner to celebrate his birthday. I write this review whilst having breakfast which is mediocre to say the least. The staff here are very lovely and all speak good English, the rooms are minute but clean. The pictures of the room don't seem to match what I've seen. In terns of using the metro, I'd say location is pretty good and the canal is very nice. Neighbourhood looks a bit suspect, lots of high tower blocks etc. It's my second day here and honestly wouldn't book again!
......the rest is terrible!!! Room is very very little, impossible to use the bathroom without wet everything. Air condition was running so bad: during the night the temperature went up and down by themself, with the result I get sick. Also because in the morning there was not hot water!!!! Non very clean Difficult to speak english
I had read some of the other reviews, but as this hotel is very close to where my daughter lives, I thought I'd give it a go (other hotels have been disappointing). The first problem we had was the price, we were advised that the price we would pay was €224, however we were charged just over €246, which I know is only €22 extra, but when I asked why, was told it was tourist tax, however the website states it should be €1.45 per person, per day which would have come to €8.70. I never got to the bottom of this. The hotel has been being updated and continued to look like redecoration was ongoing. Our room was on the 6th floor. There was a lift to get us up there, thankfully. As typical for Paris the room was small. It was clean and functional, the headboard for the double bed was for a single, but wasn't an issue. There was not much storage space and the hanging rail was over the kettle and bin, so a good thing I didn't take any dresses. We had a shower room, which again was clean and functional. Initially we only had 2 hand towels and a bath towel, but the staff will assist and provide any missing things. We did not have breakfast, as we felt it was a bit expensive and we could have breakfast out. We were not worried about the accommodation, as who spends their day in their room when visiting Paris? All I ever need is clean, functional and comfortable, which this hotel definitely was. So handy for the metro, but as it runs under the hotel you can sometimes hear the rumble and feel the vibration. There is still work to be done on the hotel, but I'm sure will be fine when completed. I would definitely visit again, probably one of the best budget hotels I have stayed in.
The people at the hotel were friendly but the room was quite poor. It stunk of cigarette and the pillow I slept on wreaked of smoke. My partner and I went home with cigarette smelling clothes when we don't even smoke. Breakfast was fine but we had to request top ups to bread and other things when they ran out. We had an unpleasant view from our room window of about 10 diapers thrown onto the roof below us.
Our children booked this hotel for myself & my husband for a 3 night stay, on our arrival we were a bit weary of the neighbourhood but decided to check in & give it a try, we were charged 45 euros for a parking space & 4 euros a night for room tax & that's before we'd even looked at the room. The reception was dark & dingy & the staff had no interest in being polite or smiling, we went to the room which was the size of a garden shed, the lights beside the bed was hanging off the wall, the tiny bathroom was dirty & we really didn't want to use it, we stayed 1 night & the noise was so bad from the metro that the whole building shook every time a train went past, also the noise from the street meant we got no sleep at all, we couldn't stop itching & realised we'd both been bitten in the night. While we were out of the room someone had gone through my suitcase & emptied my toiletries bag out & also used my expensive perfume & just left it on the top of my case, not back in the box it was in, luckily I'd taken all money & passports with me when I went out. We checked out after 1 night & the staff weren't even surprised, we book into another hotel & enjoyed the rest of our break. Save your time & money & book anywhere but here, needless to say we'd never return to this place.
