Hotel Régence3.0 out of 5.0

We came here via an Expedia listing that claimed the place was a 3.5 Star hotel. I cant begin to list the atrocities of this place. It is in a rough neighborhood with street people and beggars (hard to find in Paris, but they are here). They are doing subway construction literally right in front of the hotel entrance---so be prepared to haul your bags for 3/4's of a block to check in. The clerks are extremely indifferent to your presence or comfort. We were sent to a room that (literally) had thick dark dirt all over the ceiling and on the carpet. The chair was broken (I am not heavy and I almost broke my neck sitting in it as it caved in. The walls had tons on knife holes in it, and slices of wallpaper. It stunk. It was terrible. We were put in this room (I believe) due to racism on the part of the clerk. Seeing my wife is black, he sent us to a room not fit for livestock. When we complained, he moved us to a "nicer" room, which was still quite bad. Only Charlie Chaplin could fit in the "elevator" and when it gets to the 4th and 5th floors, it is pitch black in the hallway. You cant see your hand in front of your face. It is scary. The internet sucks. And, due to the construction in front, be prepared to wake up in the morning to the not so soothing sound of jackhammers. The place was so decrepit it literally should just be demolished by the Parisian health authorities. If my French was descent I would have called. Though this review is terrible, there in not a gram of hyperbole in it. And it is not the worst. Read the one of the poor gent whose wife is disabled and she had to crawl on the filthy carpet during their stay around Christmas. It makes you want to cry. I wish I had taken the time to really go through the reviews before paying for this dump---Nearly 140 US Dollars. Granted, there are some sketchy old beat up hotels in Paris, but I cannot imagine one worst than this.
Bad experience- booked cycle reservation in advance but on arrival there was none and me and my friend were made to feel an inconvenience. Hotel outside a building site and main road, very noisy. Room very hot so kept window open but so noisy couldn't sleep. Breakfast poor - 'fresh fruit' old and fruit salad contained old fruit. I asked for something fresh and I was asked whether I was on a diet. The bread tasted stale. All in all a poor experience and not worth the 100 euros or the 3 stars associated with the hotel; price was grossly excessive and staff very unhelpful.
Hotel is very close to a subway station, bus stops, many restaurants, taxis, and many attractions like Moulin Rouge, Sacre-Coeur de Montmartre, Eifel Tower, and more. I stayed for about two weeks but my room DID NOT HAVE A/C, NEITHER THE LOBBY, it was awful, they lent us a fan, but it was not enough was very hot outside. So if anybody is traveling to Paris on Summer, take this in consideration.
My parents and I have stayed at Regence hotel several times and every visit we were very satisfied with service, friendliness of the staff, rooms, equipment. The environment is very cosy, you are feeling very much like home. I believe that this hotel has one of the best quality/price in Paris. Due to its central location, its a great place to stay for a couple, family or even a business traveler.
Booked this place purely because of its supposed cycling friendly credentials. Absolute tripe! Charged us €10 each to store our bikes on our own balcony!!!!! Guy on reception deeply unhelpful too. Beds clean and location good but given the building site outside too, one to avoid.
LOCATION The hotel is located in Rue de Saint-Petersbourg which is a fairly quiet road off of Place de Clichy. The location is very convenient for the metro at Place de Clichy. It is also close to Gare St Lazare. Place de Clichy has a range of restaurants and bars and therefore the hotel is well located for exploring Paris. Be warned there is a new metro line being built along Rue de Saint Petersbourg. When I visited (first week in Feb) the hotel was not even visible behind all the works and heavy drilling equipment. The noise was also fairly defining once the drilling started at 9am. STAFF The staff are very helpful and friendly. As it is a very small hotel the number of staff I actually saw was only about 3 people. HOTEL The hotel is one of the old four storey buildings in Paris. There is a small lift that you can take up to your room when you have luggage. When you have no luggage perhaps the spiral staircase is a better option. To save electricity you have to press the light button at each floor otherwise the stairs are plunged into darkness. ROOMS The rooms and the common areas - aside from the reception area - could do with upgrading. They are very tired. The carpets in the room I stayed in are heavily stained. I think a few pipes may have leaked. The bath was chipped. The shower seals were heavily discoloured. The toilet and the sink/shower and in separate rooms. When I arrived the room was absolutely boiling due to the radiator being on full blast. This was easily rectifiable but did not create the basset impression. BREAKFAST The breakfast was disappointing. A small table with some breads, yoghurts, cereal and hard boiled eggs. All for 13 euros - which struck me as expensive (i.e. 10% of the cost of a nights stay at the hotel...) CONCLUSION A great location for a hotel but I am afraid the Hotel Regence is a little tired (and hot too). Rue de Saint Peterbourg may be best avoided until the new metro line has been built..
We arrive at the hotel on New YearEve. I have a group of 22 ten of whom were going to the Dickie Rock show only and 12 staying over night and show. Our check in was very quick and each room was ready. Rooms were lovely decorated and nice size. Bed were very comfortable. We will be back soon
Stayed with family here for 4 nights in October....room was very clean, beds extremely comfortable and staff was amazing... However.... The room was very hot... the staff went out of their way to accommodate our needs by giving us 3 fans.. Sorry to say the room remained too hot for a good nights sleep. Staff offered to change the room but we had already unpacked everything and preferred not to move. If we opened the windows for fresh air the outside noise was not conducive to sleep... Sam and Amal were fantastic... Even gave us complimentary WiFi and Breakfast for two days... We were most appreciative. We travelled around Europe for almost one month and all other comparable facilities included both WiFi and breakfast in the price of the room... Perhaps management should consider this option. I thank Sam and Amal for all their time and efforts.
We stayed here twice during September, the first time for one night, then again for four nights. The first night we had a room with a great view down onto a bustling restaurant / cafe area, the second time we were in a larger room on an upper level. The rooms are great with modern amenities and well laid out. Very spacious for Paris accommodation. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Location is excellent as you are on the edge of the Montmarte District, but also close to train stations, tube stations, cafe's, restaurants and a supermarket. It's also about a 25 minute walk to the river.
The hotel is too expensive for what it is. The hot water comes after 5 mns. The room was not ready at 2 pm, i had to wait ... The room ia ver small ... I asked to get an iron, it didn't work ... The service was horrific ... The only positive thing is the location.
