As mother of three, this trip was meant to be a relaxing getaway for me and my oldest daughter. She has stood by my side through life-threatening medical issues, and we desperately needed a peaceful break. Unfortunately, what we walked into was the complete opposite.
After a grueling 10-hour drive, we were starving but still excited to unpack and settle into our “nice” hotel room. When we returned from dinner, we were horrified to find a swarm of cockroaches in the room. We were moved to another room, only to discover more bugs immediately upon turning on the lights. The third room on the other side of the building had ants. While less terrifying than cockroaches, ants are still unacceptable in a hotel room, especially considering I have never had any bug problems at home.
Because cockroaches and ants can easily hitchhike, I had to take extreme measures to ensure I didn’t bring them home. After another exhausting 10-hour drive back, I had to immediately go to a store and spend $150 on bug bombs for my car something I never expected to deal with after a “vacation.”
As if that weren’t enough, on the second night, my room phone didn’t work. I had to leave the room in the middle of the night just to contact the front desk. To make matters worse, there was no hot water, meaning my daughter and I couldn’t even take a proper shower.
