Parking is a slight enigma on site (Lots available though), GPS by post code can take you to the other side of the motorway - there's a access road across the motorway, but it means going through a 'no entry'. Signage would be a good idea. Reception needs some better thought, receptionist should have a better chair, and there should be more welcoming aesthetics here. Apart from this, the Reception welcome was superb. As a Diamond member, I spend a lot of time with this brand, and almost always get a good welcome across all sites - this site is no different. Staying upstairs, the room is in the accepted standard of Days Inn, it's clean, serviceable, functional. Tea and Coffee is in the room, TV and radio alarm clock. The bed is super comfortable. Additional pillows available in the room. The bathroom is clean, the shower has good power, and plenty of hot water. In the attached rest stop, there's restaurants and a paper shop. This is a good site.
Been here regarding throughout March Handy location for my business meetings Very friendly staff and accommodating Budget prices without feeling like you’ve lost out. I’d certainly use ongoing without hesitation. Well Done Elizabeth & team
There was no shower gel in the shower dispenser. This was very inconvenient for obvious reasons.
The staff are really helpful, this is a little motel on a Motorway, very clean, its not 5*, but better than expected, based on the recent reviews. Don't believe all you read on here. Its bang for your buck.
Not the best hotel, Room smells, and very basic. Plus reception is tiny and bit like a fortress. I paid £65 for tonight and I should have stayed in Birmingham instead where better hotels were cheaper
I know it’s a large service station but we had two rooms booked one was adequate, the other was extremely noisy. The beds feel like a million people have slept on them! I did not sleep well at all. I had no hot water for my shower either, when you’ve been outside in the cold and rain all day and only want a warm shower it’s very disappointing. I tried to complain in the morning but reception was closed! Won’t stay again.
All we wanted was a clean room and a comfy bed but that appears to have been too much to ask. To be fair the lady on reception did try to resolve our issues but she didn't have a lot to work with. The first room had a bed where the springs were digging into our backs. The second was damp and had a similar bed and the third had a decent bed but stank of smoke and the lights flashed on and off constantly. We opted for the smoke room (that was non smoking). We left at 6am as I couldn't stand the smell. A few days earlier we paid £10 less for a much better Travelodge so it's unlikely we'll be staying with this chain again.
Quick courteous check-in, clean room, internet a bit fiddly to get onto - having to register, then not secure - and a bit on the slow side. Room temperature nice, we don't like it hot and some places are stifling! On the back of the block so it was relatively quiet, the front faces the M1 motorway. The entrance from the surrounding roads is interesting as there are No Entry signs everywhere but just ignore them - follow the Days Inn Signs. Breakfast is next door in the food outlet for the whole of the motorway service area but has a good range of outlets.
Our room was on the ground floor, but it looked like the room had suffered a bad leak in the bathroom with the floor lifting up.
Roadchef do have a couple of really well thought out hotel franchisee sites, I'm guessing this was the pathfinder for "how not to", Days Inn being pretty much a minimal industry standard, possibly even lower than Travelodge. Rooms are really basic, your check in and out will probably be by some harassed member of staff who has taken time out from linen changes and room cleaning. Given the location and age of building soundproofing isn't too bad, but if you have already spent x hours on the M1 you are probably pillow ready already. Access roads to and from the A5 or contra M1 access advertised by Roadchef / Days Inn are appalling, might even cost you a tyre or axle.
