All we wanted was a clean room and a comfy bed but that appears to have been too much to ask. To be fair the lady on reception did try to resolve our issues but she didn't have a lot to work with. The first room had a bed where the springs were digging into our backs. The second was damp and had a similar bed and the third had a decent bed but stank of smoke and the lights flashed on and off constantly. We opted for the smoke room (that was non smoking). We left at 6am as I couldn't stand the smell. A few days earlier we paid £10 less for a much better Travelodge so it's unlikely we'll be staying with this chain again.
Quick courteous check-in, clean room, internet a bit fiddly to get onto - having to register, then not secure - and a bit on the slow side. Room temperature nice, we don't like it hot and some places are stifling! On the back of the block so it was relatively quiet, the front faces the M1 motorway. The entrance from the surrounding roads is interesting as there are No Entry signs everywhere but just ignore them - follow the Days Inn Signs. Breakfast is next door in the food outlet for the whole of the motorway service area but has a good range of outlets.
Our room was on the ground floor, but it looked like the room had suffered a bad leak in the bathroom with the floor lifting up.
Roadchef do have a couple of really well thought out hotel franchisee sites, I'm guessing this was the pathfinder for "how not to", Days Inn being pretty much a minimal industry standard, possibly even lower than Travelodge. Rooms are really basic, your check in and out will probably be by some harassed member of staff who has taken time out from linen changes and room cleaning. Given the location and age of building soundproofing isn't too bad, but if you have already spent x hours on the M1 you are probably pillow ready already. Access roads to and from the A5 or contra M1 access advertised by Roadchef / Days Inn are appalling, might even cost you a tyre or axle.
Stayed here for one night and was told I booked the room wrong. The general manager had that "can't be bothered" attitude and made no attempt to rectify the booking. I was told that it wasn't possible to book 4 adults in one room when, on departure, we saw that most rooms had two double beds. We slept uncomfortably in one double bed and a single bed (4 adults!) That were of poor quality and the bathrooms were also really grubby. The walls are paper thin and you can hear every conversation I'm the next room. Other than that, fine for maybe 1 or 2 adults who don't care about grime and just need a place to lay their heads for the night..
Hardly got any sleep due to the constant lorry traffic parking and driving past my window. Was woken up at 1am by reversing beeps from a lorry parking right outside and nearly every hour afterwards with lorrys manouvering or driving outside my bedroom. Awful, never using Days Inn's again. Tried you for the first time as I use hotels every couple of weeks for work and never using you again.
Convenient for travellers, Services next door. Pleasant staff, Already on road to destination.
Left a note in my room .... no soap , broken TV , bed was sagged so Bly it was virtually on the floor and 3 wake up fire alarms during the night ??
For a motorway service, hotel was very reasonably priced and staff very helpful. A very convenient location with M1, M6 and A14 to take you in any direction.
Just came back from holidays. Too tired after a long flight. Had to stop and stay for a night. This hotel is on Southbound M1 so if you are travelling North then you'll need to drive for another ~10 minutes. Staffs were nice and friendly. Rooms were average as expected. Quite quiet even though it is next to a motorway. Unfortunately the hot water shower in my parents room wasn't working. Overall a comfortable stay.
