Spent 4 nights at the hotel in January 2018 to visit the excavation sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Beautiful hotel on the promenade with breathtaking view of the bay of Naples and the Vesuvius volcano in the background. Amazing breakfast. Only 30mn drive to the Pompeii or Herculaneum sites. 20mn drive by taxi to the Naples old town (taxi fare of 15/20 euros). Rooms are spacious with marble bathroom. Bedding mattress could be of better quality. Restaurant on the top floor has amazing views, great food but menu could offer more choices. Definitely recommend this hotel.
I’ve not stayed in many hotels as poor as this one. The only thing it has going for it is it’s location. It needs a significant renovation, from the room through to the bar (if you can get in, I was told it was closed for a private event). Forget the Internet, the Wi-Fi drops out every couple of minutes and you need a userid/password per device. Rooms are large, but decorated for the sixties, pink, with no thought. TV a small unit hidden in a corner so that it cannot been seen from anywhere other than the window.... However, the window is a great place to see the bay, but don’t open it because the front is where the smokers hang out and the smell of the smokers is overpowering.
Old hotel but renovated. I had a nice big room with the balcony. The view from the balcony was to the old town and sea. Room was clean and well equipped. Bathroom was big and clean. Disadvantage was to expensive breakfast - 27 our per person. Hotel is near the old centre and bus stops.
We stayed for 5 nights in January 2018. Our room was overlooking the sea and marina with side view of mount Vesuvius - we had a balcony and room was large with tasteful lovely decor in room 412 with all the mod cons. The heating/air con system is very good and there is also electric window shutters to keep out the sunlight. The staff are friendly and speak English. The hotel is close to castle dell’ovo which is a few minutes walk away and is well worth a visit plus it’s free entrance. Also nearby is plenty restaurants, shopping area within 10-15 minute walk and castle nuovo is worth a visit around £12-13 entrance fee, but bare in mind on a Sunday in January it closes around 2.00-230 pm. You can also catch a 15-20minute taxi ride to nearby train station, where you can catch the sorrento train on platform line 3 to Vesuvius, Pompeii and Herculaneum for around £3 each way. Train ride takes 15-30 minutes as all 3 trips are on the same line. The reception and breakfast room are gorgeous - breakfast is very good with a good choice of eggs, sausage, mushrooms, different types of bread, cheese, fruit juices and cereals. Also have various cakes and fruit. Breakfast is served till 1030 hours. There is fresh water available in the reception. Would definitely stay here again
We spent two nights in the Hotel Excelsior. We loved everything about this hotel. Its a large sumptuous building, a palace for travellers. The spotlessly clean room with polished parquet floor. We were in a Deluxe Twin room which was large and comfortable. Beautiful laundered linen, dressing room, electric shutters with switches by the bed, tea and coffee and large marble bathroom. And the best of all, the breakfast room - a large ballroom overlooking the port with a magnificent breakfast and beautifully classy. The service, the attention to detail and the old world glamour made our visit to Naples perfect. Thank you Hotel Excelsior. We shall be back.
good old style hotel with an awesome view. terrace area with good layout of breakfast and very friendly staff. good location of the hotel and accessible from everywhere. spacious and clean rooms, decent sized.
The view of the Gulf of Naples from our room was clearly the highlight! Rooms are spacious and clean Hotel has more of a classic touch Check-in was easy, staff is very polite and helpful Great stay overall
Everything about this hotel completely charmed me and I felt like I was back in time on the Grand Tour. The building is impressive and the lobby and first floor rooms are gorgeous. The staff was wonderful and welcoming. Our room was enormous and had a nice view of the bay. We could not have been more pleased with the Hotel Excelsior!
Beautiful building, with wow foyer factor. Magnificent staircase & breakfast room. Wonderful service from reception and doorman. The room however was disappointing View 0 - looking out onto a dilapidated courtyard from the fifth storey pfft Air conditioning broken. Room is stifling and we’re here in winter 1 extra soggy pillow for 2 of us Free wifi but it was very slow unless you sit out on the landing near the stairs And the clincher no power points near anything helpful for recharging devices. One in bathroom and if we pulled out the tv plug we got another For such an expensive room it’s really quite substandard.
Just got round to writing this review after a trip here in February 2017. We travelled as a family and wanted an inter- connecting room for our 13 year old son which I organised prior to arrival. We arrived before check in time and rooms were not ready but were given complimentary drinks at the bar on the beautiful rooftop terrace whilst we waited. Rooms were both big and airy with very comfortable beds. Great views of the mountains and Bay of Naples from the roof terrace. Great wi-fi coverage. Excellent location and easy to walk into the Main town. We used the train to visit Pompeii and the station was probably a bit too far for most people to walk so taxi required for that. Overall a lovely hotel in a great location.
