This is a grand and elegant hotel right on the waterfront. We had booked a sea view room and were upgraded to a 5th floor suite with a wrap round balcony and wonderful views of the entire Bay. Our suite was very warm and comfortable. It had a huge bed with a medium mattress, but very soft pillows. I ordered firmer ones from the pillow menu. There was a marble bathroom with bath, bidet and shower, good products, an excellent hairdryer and a decent make up mirror. There is a kettle but for this standard of hotel, I’d expect a coffee machine rather than a few packets of Nescafe. For breakfast there was a very good selection of juices, cereals, fresh fruit, cold cuts and smoked fish, excellent breads and jams, as well as scrambled eggs and bacon. The dining room staff were pleasant, as were the porters. The cross key concierge was helpful but the female reception staff were off hand. There are lots of restaurants nearby including those in the Castle marina and the seafront is closed to traffic, so it’s a lovely walk along. Plebiscito Square is a 15 minutes walk uphill into town and the nearest metro Metro Line 1 a further 20 minute walk. The nearest stop on Line 2 took us 40 minutes with a lot of steps. As Naples is hilly and sprawling there is a useful hop on, hop off red bus which stops outside the opera house. Recommended.

This must have been my seventh stay at the Excelsior. Front desk Alessio gave me an excellent room with the picture postcard view I had requested and paid for. The room was spotless and in great shape. Small irritants from the past have been fixed: Internet is free and works well now, breakfast was also excellent, a small gym has been set up. This remains the best Hotel in Naples and one of my favourites anywhere. Though it is now part of a largish Spanish chain, the staff is the same, the personal touch remains and I look forward to my next visit.

This hotel has a great location, overlooking the water with faraway views of Mount Vesuvius, which will almost certainly be one of the reasons for its high price tag. Our two night stay, in a suite, was incredibly grand and incredibly expensive but did fall short of our expectations in some ways. The suite itself was gorgeous, elegant and pretty much as expected, with a number of balconies around the rooms, mostly looking out over the bay; there is no doubt that the views are beautiful and impressive. There were electric shutters at the windows which did a great job of blocking out any unwanted light first thing in the morning. The first disappointment was finding that there was no hospitality tray in the room. When I mentioned this, I was told that, because we were staying in a suite, complimentary tea and coffee would be brought to the room upon request. Great. However, this proved to be easier said than done since, each time I asked, it seemed to take longer and longer to arrive until, finally, none arrived. I just gave up asking at this point. Hardly the service that I would expect from a hotel with such high end prices. The second disappointment was finding that there were no individual thermostatic controls in the room so that I could increase the room temperature when it went chilly at night. When I explained that I have a health condition and felt cold, and asked how I could turn up the temperature, I was told that this is not possible due to the law in Naples forbidding hotels to turn on the heating before 1st December (we were staying at the end of October). As I’ve never heard of this type of law before, I thought I had misunderstood and went and spoke to the same member of staff again. This time, the member of staff snapped at me and, with a resigned sigh, told me that I should wrap a blanket around me. At the time of booking, I was unaware that Italian law enforces energy saving regulations which, in Naples, means that the hotel heating cannot be turned on before 1st December. Whilst I appreciate that this is Italian law, and therefore beyond the hotel’s control, I certainly didn’t expect to be treated like a naughty child. A few pleasant words and a smile go a long way. I feel that there were two sides to our stay. On the one hand, the suite with its numerous balconies and stunning views, had the wow factor but, on the other hand, service was hit and miss and probably never better than mediocre. At such high prices, I’m not sure that I would stay again.

We decided to head straight to Naples, instead of Rome, when we arrived from our long flight from the USA. The reason why was to have a place to relax with all ammenities to ensure our acclamation to the time change, while experiencing the city and surrounding areas. The excelsior was the perfect choice with their peaceful bay views and over and above service. We found a new gym, both bars open and the breakfast was a highlight. Francesca will accommodate your every need. She is gracious and can anticipate your every wish. Valentina, at the front desk, is warm and welcoming. Thanks to you and your staff for an unforgettable and memorable stay.

Decent place for Naples. Location is good and I found the bed comfy - although I like a hard mattress. Breakfast is really good. Service is inconsistent. Check in staff at time were very nice and pleasant - however since then doorman never opens door, others at reception never say hello.

Surely one of the best hotels in Napoli. It shows its age but the charm remains. Wonderful view of Vesuvio from our room and balcony. Huge and very good breakfast, helpful concierge, good roof top restaurant, again with, probably, one of the the best views in Napoli. Highly recommended.

Stayed here 3 nights . Hotel very clean . Quiet for sleeping . Outstanding views of the water . Close enough to walk downtown . Breakfast was a buffet or you could order off the menu . Had room service once which again was outstanding .

We stayed here as a family - the concierge staff were friendly and welcoming. They were efficient. The hotel lobby was clean and well maintained. We stayed in a sea view room. Which was simple stunning. The views of Vesuvius were amazing. To wake up and admire such a wonderful view just made our holiday. The room itself was well maintained. The bath was to die for and so was the shower. The bathrobes were luxurious. There was USB sockets in the room. The location was stunning. We unfortunately over slept as the bed was so Comfortable that we missed breakfast. But if the rest of the hotel is to go by, I’m sure that was amazing as well. Finally do enjoy a drink on the roof top terrace. Again the service was brilliant and again the views amazing. We will be back 💕

Spent 4 nights at the hotel in January 2018 to visit the excavation sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Beautiful hotel on the promenade with breathtaking view of the bay of Naples and the Vesuvius volcano in the background. Amazing breakfast. Only 30mn drive to the Pompeii or Herculaneum sites. 20mn drive by taxi to the Naples old town (taxi fare of 15/20 euros). Rooms are spacious with marble bathroom. Bedding mattress could be of better quality. Restaurant on the top floor has amazing views, great food but menu could offer more choices. Definitely recommend this hotel.

I’ve not stayed in many hotels as poor as this one. The only thing it has going for it is it’s location. It needs a significant renovation, from the room through to the bar (if you can get in, I was told it was closed for a private event). Forget the Internet, the Wi-Fi drops out every couple of minutes and you need a userid/password per device. Rooms are large, but decorated for the sixties, pink, with no thought. TV a small unit hidden in a corner so that it cannot been seen from anywhere other than the window.... However, the window is a great place to see the bay, but don’t open it because the front is where the smokers hang out and the smell of the smokers is overpowering.
