Naples When to Go

Snowbirds (the people, not actual birds) begin their pilgrimage south to Naples in October and stay through April. The average temps during the popular winter months range from 87 degrees in October to 76 degrees in February during the day; it rarely drops below 50 degrees at night. The annual Mullet Festival in January in nearby Goodland mixes up fresh seafood, music, and instruction on how to do the Buzzard Lope Dance. In Everglades City, fresh-as-it-gets seafood is the onus of the Everglades Seafood Festival in February.

While winter is when most vacationers hit the beaches, the shoulder seasons in late spring and early fall see minimal crowds and pleasant weather.

Summer boasts Florida’s infamous hot ‘n’ humid weather, but travelers looking for warmer waters will revel in the gulf’s average temperature of 87 degrees. Come May, in Naples proper, both the Taste of Collier (offering culinary samplings from local restaurants) and the spectator-friendly Dock Canoe Race take place. The latter, which has been running since 1977, pits costumed canoe paddlers against one another in a three-mile race on Naples Bay.
