We really enjoyed this hotel. We had a "family" room - there were 4 adults. One king bed and two twins. Only one bathroom but we knew that going in. The room was very nice. Breakfast was included and very good. The pool was nice.
The Grand Vesuvio is ideally situated on the Bay of Naples right by all the restaurants in walking distance. The rooms are a nice size with a large balcony overlooking the ocean and castle - absolutely breathtaking especially at night. The room is clean and nicely appointed. We read several reviews about bad hair dryers. We had a modern excellent hair dryer in the room. There was a safe and nice closet. The staff was friendly and attentive. The breakfast was large diverse buffet every morning and the bar was very pleasant to relax and enjoy a drink.
We got a good deal via email by hoteles.com and upon arrival the reception guy seem to dislike the rate we were paying.. about 250 euro. He was rude, I actually didnt even know they could see how much we paid since we had to pay in full to get the rate and was not refundable, we also pay additional to get the bkst next morning. We were suppose to get ocean view but i guess mister front desk didnt feel we deserved at our paying rate so sent us off to the side of the building and didnt get much of a view! Next morning, the breakfast was very poor, powdered eggs, strange pastries and very salty frozen salmon, so with untouched plates we left to our tour to Pompeii! 😓 Lastly, the valet guy brought the car, then moved to the side to see us carry our luggage and didnt even care to offer to help. Very strange service etiquette all around, yet the place has a privileged location, but so do other 3 or 4 hotels i would give a try before i dare to come back here! If you do end up coming here, do eat elsewhere!
This hotel is in a beautiful location with stunning views of Capri. Our room did not have a sea view , I suspect this would have been out of my price range, but this did not spoil our experience. Old fashioned service and delightful touches make this special. Breakfast was fab...great choice, well prepared and presented and served in a dining room which takes full advantage of the view. I would have loved to have given the Vesuvio 5 stars but I felt 15 Euro for a swim in the pool was excessive! Would I stay again? Yes, but I wouldn't pack my swimming costume.
*I like to qualify our reviews with a description of our travel preferences*My husband and I are in our mid-late 30s and love to travel. When we travel, we like to experience local boutique hotels (where available) and typically stay at 4-5 star hotels. * My husband and I stopped in Naples for a one night stay on our way to Capri and Positano and chose the Grand Hotel Vesuvio for its prime location near to the port. We had a LOVELY time – first and foremost, we have to thank a special front desk manager, PAOLO FABIANI, because he helped us hunt down my husband’s phone at 1am that was left in a taxi (and we do not speak Italian). Paolo went above and beyond to help us, and was cheerful the entire time. We really could not have done it without him and he deserves our immense gratitude. Now the hotel – we loved our stay. The breakfast was included in our rate, and it was the best breakfast we had in all of Europe. The food, staff and view was a perfect start to any Italian day. Our room was quite large and very well appointed – definitely an extra large room by European standards, with a great view and also black out shades that were helpful when we had to nap our jet lag away. We will stay here any time we are back in Naples. What a gem within an otherwise quite hectic city!
We booked out stay through hoteles.com and we got a great deal as we had been using the app the whole vacation, I had gotten an email hours earlier and we used it to see Napoles and stay here! Hours later... we drove in and as we walking in into the front desk of the Grand Hotel Vesuvio, the reception gentlemen was very rude to point out the price we were paying as it we should be embarrassed to be paying less or have had gotten a good deal, we were suppose to get a superior room with a view and we got a room off to the side too. We paid 40 euro more to incl breakfast, and the next morning before departing to Pompeii we head to the buffett and it was very disappointing, powdered eggs, very strange pastries, the salmon seemed unfrozen and extremely salty so we head to pompeii barely with something in our belly. When the valet came with the car, he stared at us putting the luggage in the trunk not even offered to help, to say the very least, a very strange place in terms of service and making guest feel unwelcome. I would not recommend this place although it does have a wonderful location, if you stay here at the very least, do not eat here breakfast, ewwww!
We stayed one night at this hotel before embarking for Ischia. Hotel is well located on the port and has the charm of old palaces. Hotel has a pool which we did not try. Helpful concierge and friendly staff. Nicely decorated rooms (we were upgraded to a suite thanks to LHW membership). Breakfast was ok, could be improved
The decor reminded me of hotels in the old soviet union. The room itself was incredibly dull and sad. The only thing we wanted is to do is get out and go for a walk. There wasn't even a painting or a photograph on the walls to liven it up a little. All was beige/brown and tired looking. The bed was large but not very comfortable and the pillows were hard and uncomfortable. The breakfast buffet was seriously poor offering tinned juices and tinned fruits - in Italy where you have the most wonderful summer fruits. All this disappointing experience cost us €560. The only thing which looked well worth it was the restaurant, but we never booked there because it only opened at 8.00 pm so one couldn't go and have a look at it before deciding whether one wanted to eat there or not.
We stayed for 1 night at the beginning of our honeymoon in July. We were extremely disappointed and it was a horrible hotel to start our honeymoon with. Several problems: 1) They charge 15 euros extra to use the pool and this is not made apparent pre-booking. When we booked the hotel, we factored the pool into our decision, however only wanted to use it for 15 mins to refresh after a long flight (not worth 1 euro a minute). What's the point of a 5 star hotel if they don't let you use the facilities without extra cost? 2) The beautiful roof bar seen in the photos is available only for dinner and only post 8p. Having drinks on the roof was also something we were really excited about and a key reason we booked this hotel, but also was something we couldn't do. 3) The wifi barely works. 4) REALLY long waits at the check out desk, which you have to do in order to pay a room tax and fix up incidentals. We literally waited 30 mins to pay a 15 euro incidentals bill - horrible. 5) Gym is tiny and very dirty. There was random bits of food on the ground, and the gym didn't even have weights! a few pieces of cardio equipment, one dirty mat and food on the floor, that's about it. In short, we booked this hotel due to it's "creature comforts" and apparent good service, but wound up unable to use any of them and could not describe the service as anything close to 5 star. SUPER disappointing and I wouldn't recommend staying here.
Considering the fact that there is no outstanding 5 star hotel in Napoli Vesuvio stands out beautifully. it has the grand charme of the past century well maintained. the rooms are comfortable and the seaviewvis breathtaking. They expose all the Napolitan satorial brands and inspire you.
