Grand Hotel Vesuvio5.0 out of 5.0

I stayed here a few years ago at a fraction of the cost, and it was good then, and better now. The service seems a notch better, and the rooms upgraded/refurbished a bit. The staff is exceptionally polite and helpful in making sure guests needs are met, including early check ins. Excellent breakfast buffet. The only downside would be the loud music from the roof at night.
This hotel is all the good things that are already written about it - luxurious, charming, convenient, etc. The breakfast with the views of the harbor and fortress were impressive. Would only stay here when in naples!!
We had a great stay at the Vesuvio - wonderful view of the Bay of Naples, great breakfast, comfortable bed, helpful staff, walking distance to every place we wanted to go... Could not have asked for a better stay.
Simply a great hotel - great location and great service. Only thing that I can say something slightly negative about this hotel is it is a bit old and need renovation. Then again it represents old day traditional memories and bring nostalgic moments. Overall excellent hotel....
I was worried about going to Naples after all the reviews, but we needed to be near the airport for an early flight and I wanted to see Pompeii. This hotel was perfect for our needs. The hotel in big and clean. The rooms are a bit outdated and super super dark at night, but quiet. There is no outdoor pool, which I thought there was. It would have been nice. There is a restaurant outside on the roof with nice views of the bay. We went up at night to check out the views and grab a drink at the bar section and were turned away due to our attire. I found it silly because the place was empty, it was the bar area and it was our last night of travel and my husband didn't want to put on his jacket because it was wrinkled by then. Also funny, because the very helpful woman at checkin suggested my husband take off his rolex watch while in Naples, due to so much theft. Besides that, the hotel is on a nice promenade which doesn't allow cars. At night there are thousands of people walking, exercising, eating at the outdoor restaurants, etc. We felt safe the whole time. We did not see anything else while in Naples, but did take a taxi to Pompeii. It was I think a set price of $120 for a ride and a two hour stay at Pompeii. I would suggest getting a guide at Pompeii because it is HUGE. We did the audio tour, but there is too much to cover and having an expert show you the highlights in two hours was what we needed.
Beautiful room with excellent view of the harbor (if you make sure to reserve with a view). Very helpful staff! Excellent breakfast in second floor room with view of the harbor (not so good a view as higher up in the hotel). Lovely public spaces. Easy walk to harbor and edge of old city.
A stylish hotel, perched high over Sorrento, .. run by pleasant & attentive staff. Our room was standard, very large, overlooking higher level with grass, garden, & fruit cages. We had a large, private, walled concrete area outside, with two chairs & a table. This could have been made more attractive by having comfier seats and option of a parasol, perhaps? it was very stark. A shame, as it would have been nice to sit there with a drink, to relax & admire the velvety black night-sky after a lovely hot day. The room had the usual facilities: safe, TV, 'fridge, good wardrobes & really large, comfy bed. However, apart from the two standard high back chairs for the dressing table, there wasn't one armchair in which to sit - never had a room without one before & therefore was surprised at this lack. Room Service: None - another surprise! The bedroom & nice en suite were very clean, tho,a little dated, which didn't matter - fresh towels & bed linen daily. Hair dryer - very dated indeed - lacked power, very noisy & didn't do a decent job at all. It's position, squashed into left hand corner by the wall mirror, made it very difficult to use for anyone right handed (as I am). Please, fit one that is efficient!! The dining room was elegant &'understated', with breakfast buffet and waiter service. The breakfast was as expected, cheeses, cold meats, scrambled egg, cereals,,yoghurts, with a good selection of cereals, small pastries & rolls. It wss a shame, as so much fresh fruit available in the town, that the hotel served tinned fruit. There were bananas & oranges on display but it would have been nice to see fresh soft fruit, apricots, peaches, nectarines & figs at breakfast. Don't wish to be over-critical! There were a couple of really good buffet evenings, lovely selection, particularly the BBQ evening, The staff were excellent, very hard working The hotel operates a convenient & reliable bus service to the town, driver always cheerful. A really nice hotel, offering good service.
The roof top restaurant is very pleasant , with good food and good service. Breakfast downstairs too is a pleasant experience . On Mondays however the roof top restaurant is shut and its better to dine outside the Hotel as the Hotel s arrangements that day downstairs are only for those that must dine in. The rooms are very pleasant and the Hotel staff friendly. The location on the sea front is useful . The shower area in the bathroom needs better water protection as despite a glass guard a fair bit water comes on to the floor
We were a little apprehensive about a visit to Naples after ten days on the Sorrento and Amalfi coasts. However the moment we entered the plush foyer of the hotel and were received with friendly courtesy by the front desk we were reassured. The hotel has a well maintained old world opulence which is comforting , the staff are very helpful and friendly and the Caruso restaurant on the roof, with its beautiful views over the bay of Naples and excellent food, is exceptionally good and hold its own with anywhere we ate along the coast. We had a room with a marvelous sea view. In the category we booked, which was a double room with sea view, there are some smaller rooms so it's worth asking for the larger alternative at the same price if available. All in all a great end to our holiday. I hope we will be back there soon!
Now on day 7 of our two week holiday to Italy staying at the Grand Vesuvio hotel in Sorrento.I will begin with the few good points, can always get a sunbed.Good wi fi around the hotel, cleaning staff keep the dated rooms to a reasonable standard.Shuttle bus is very good. Now the bad points, food is probably the worst standard we have ever encountered. Lack of choice at breakfast, scrambled egg are an unnatural bright yellow colour.Sausages are cheap canned hot dogs, totally inedible. Most of it is just about luke warm at best.Dinner is sometimes a set menu or buffet, both equally bad food quality.Tonight was buffet night, the beef and pork were stone cold as well as the vegetables offered. We did complain to the waiter who offered to bring us hot meals. But we declined,as this should of been hot to begin with.Restaurant staff unfriendly apart from a couple who can just about force a smile.Have considered eating out for the remainder of our stay, overall if it's good food you want give this hotel a miss.Entertainment at the hotel is as bad as the food, not enough tables on the outdoor terrace. So if you eat after 7.30pm forget it.Not that the entertainment is worth bothering with anyway. They seem to be more hospitipal with the conferences that go on at the hotel on a daily basis, and tourists take second place.Television is really only sky news, glad i took a tablet with you tube on.This was really our only evening entertainment. All in all a very poor hotel that should really be classed as 3 star at best, most definitely will not be visiting or recommending this hotel again .You have been warned.
