The Hotel Grand Vesuvio is a lovely old world Hotel. Very clean, comfortable and great staff. Very accommodating. Right across the street from the Castel Ovo and the views of the bay are magnificent. The breakfast buffet is good in the salon on the 1st floor.
Part of the Small Luxury Hotels Group, Is it 5* ....... ? The decor and furnishing are getting a little tired, however the staff are helpful, enthusiastic and on a Global scale it not 5* hotel prices. The Hotel in truth is 4*+ The breakfast is very good, the quality of the buffet is excellent. The bathrooms are show their age, Jacuzzi baths, how very retro. Rooms are clean, the beds were huge (super king size - stayed on the sixth floor 624 i think overlooking the harbor fortress) the line was bed lovely. Cant turn the A/c below 20 degrees. The hotel gave the most amazing lunch recommendation to a restaurant I cant find on Trip Advisor. "Al Giardino" Calanta Ponticello a Marechiaro Tel +39 081 248 3157 - This place is an absolute must, overlooking the bay further over on the west side, it is two restaurants, father and son either side of a narrow passage way, full of locals, great food, very elegant, linen table clothes and great wines and sea food. Possibly the best find of our week long trip. We ate in the son's larger restaurant which on a Sunday afternoon was fully of chic Italian families enjoying the finer things. The restaurant upstairs in the Hotel (Roof Top) is beautiful but the food is very disappointing
Everything was lovely -- from the moment you enter, a professional and personable staff caters to you. We also enjoyed the bar immediately off the lobby, particularly their coffee menu. (Hint: try the Brazilian.) The hotel is located right on the bay, and we enjoyed our balcony immensely. It overlooked the water and Castle Dell'Ovo from the 8th floor. The first night, we dined on the roof-top restaurant and the view and service were impeccable. Both of us ordered the veal cutlets and sad to say, neither of us liked them. It's also quite expensive but not overpriced given the view. Our room was spacious, the bed and pillows excellent, and the bathroom, while small, was clean and well-equipped. The various window coverings make it possible for a jet-lagged traveler to shut out all light and recuperate in absolute darkness and quiet. We also loved their room service and enjoyed their food offerings. I wouldn't hesitate to book here again.
My daughter and I booked this hotel for one night prior to flying home from Naples. We choose it because of the beautiful photos of the roof top restaurant. Well, Monday nights the restaurant is closed. Our room was a long ways from the elevator and the hotel was practically empty. The halls going to our room had not been vacuumed. The room was clean but the shower was old and the tile had water marks. Nothing to compare to the two previous hotels we had stayed in Positano and Capri. The history of the hotel was wonderful. It is one of the landmarks and right on the water and promenade. We were looking for safely and it provided us with that.
I don't know what hotel these other reviewers have stayed at, but it can't be this one. This hotel is old (and not in the charming way), it is tired and shabby. The rooms need renovation as do the common areas of the hotel. The beds are uncomfortable and the bathrooms are tiny. I would hate to be fat and try and fit in one of those showers! I cannot work out how this is a 5 star hotel, let alone one that has stayed in the Leading Hotels of the a World chain. We stayed in LHW hotels in Venice, Rome and Sorrento- and all were excellent. This one is such a big let down.
We spent one night here as we were leaving southern Italy. Our room looked out to the castle on the port as well as to the sea. It was beautiful. A blackout grating kept the light and noise out and we slept extremely well. Staff was helpful and pleasant. The breakfast buffet was excellent, with a good array of pastries, eggs, meats, cheeses, fresh and dried fruits, juices, etc. The only disappointment with the hotel is there was a 15 Euro charge to use the pool. Really? A luxury hotel wants to charge you 15 extra Euros to use their pool? Penny wise, pound foolish.
Traditional, Classic and Comfortable Hotel. Great location on the waterfront, Bay of Naples; directly across the road from Castel d'Ovo. The service and staff are really wonderful, very friendly and helpful. Terrific location, easy walk to the old/historic part of Naples AND easy walk to a fabulous assortment of restaurants AND some great shopping! One standout memory/experience at the hotel is the breakfast - served in a lovely room with views of the water, an amazing assortment of food - BUT the best part is the staff, every morning we received a wonderful welcome - a small part of the stay, but really memorable.
A magnificent hotel in the middle of a bustling area with restaurants and bars. Very easy to get to Capri and the Amalfi Coast from the Hotel. The rooftop bar and restaurant should not be missed. The spa and pool are gorgeous! The rooms are beautifully appointed and the staff was very courteous and helpful. Would highly recommend this hotel to anybody!
Fantastic Hotel, located 20mins by taxi from the airport and directly on the harbour. A grand classic hotel with service to match. Beautifully decorated, fantastic staff, spotless rooms. The Breakfast was excellent, huge variety, fresh pastries, cold meats and cheeses, cereals, fruit, eggs, bacon, sausages...it goes on. Wonderful coffee! sets you up for the day! The beds were amazing we slept so well, plenty of huge fluffy white towels, slippers! turn down service etc. I don't say this often but I really didn't want to leave. I would highly recommend the hotel and I will defiantly be going back.
Classic, old school hotel on the waterfront in Naples. Our room had a view of the castle in the Bay of Naples. Walking distance to so much including the oldest pizza place in the world and the ferry we took to go to Capri. Great service, very nice breakfast included in the rate. Comfortable room and nice amenities. Cute bar/lounge area with seafront views.
