Grand Hotel Santa Lucia4.0 out of 5.0

I stayed for three nights at the Grand Hotel Santa Lucia as part of a trip to Naples and surroundings. The hotel is on the sea, with a nearly pedestrian street in front, so it is pretty quiet. Rooms are quite big and well kept, even if they have not been renovated in quite some time so they have an oldish appearance. They are clean and with many amenities. Air conditioning and heating is very noisy so it is not possible to keep it on during night. It would have been difficult if it had been summer and hot. Strangely enough, despite being a four-star hotel, there was no turn-down service. However, the impression was that blankets were changed every morning. Staff was nice and helpful. Breakfast was good, even if some improvements in terms of choices could be beneficial.
Hotel is located in front of city beach, you can see the sea and great Vesuvio. The street is full of nice restaurants. The room was clean, nice furnished a spacious. Great breakfast - very italian, tasty, crispy, good smelling :)
Top marks to the hotel staff, who gave us a room which went well beyond expectations for the price paid. We were a couple with a child and booked a standard double with added bed and no sea view. Only special request was to have one of their refurbished rooms. What we got was a very spacious room with adjoining living room with sofa bed and its own tv and frigobar. What's more, the room was on the via Santa Lucia side, with side views of the sea and perfect pictures of Castel dell'Ovo to be taken from the balcony (see attached). Room 120, perfect for families! The sofa bed was a large single, so I suppose it could even accommodate 2 small kids. The room was next to the gym, which was not a nuisance as we didn't see anyone using it, and soundproofing seems to be pretty good anyway as we didn't hear any noise from outside. To be very picky, the frigobar was not the most silent, but it didn't disturb us. Breakfast was pleasant in the airy room on the ground floor. We appreciated the variety of Neapolitan sweets (but there are savoury options too) and Italian coffees. The hotel is historic and, as with most old hotels, here and there there are bits that may require attention. In terms of the rooms, I would recommend the first floor, which is the refurbished one, and I understand the fifth floor is also nearly done. As per the common spaces, from what we have seen there are some details that could do with an update (stair rugs, upholstery...) but this remains a beautiful hotel with extremely kind and professional staff. Location is one of the nicest parts of town, however it may not the most convenient for people who plan to spend their time in Naples historic centre and use public transport. We avoided buses as they are unreliable, and used the metro instead. The closest stop to Santa Lucia is Municipio and then it's a 20 min walk. Last note, there is a city tax to be paid on top of the booking price. This is pretty common in Italy and in Naples it's 3.50 euros per adult for four-star hotels.
The Hotel is located in the best spot in Naples---right by the sea and near shops and restaurants. The hotel was a bit disappointing. The room was very small and I must say it was not cleaned very well. The hotel lobby and area by elevators was dirty as well. The breakfast was not very good---stale bakery items. The staff could have been more helpful. Would not stay here again.
We are on our last evening of a short break to Napoli, and we can’t go home without giving a special mention to Giovanni on reception, he has provided excellent service throughout our stay. We highly recommend this hotel. Where possible, request to stay in the junior suite with fantastic views from the wrap around balcony!
I loved everything about this hotel. The location on the waterfront felt safe and removed from the dirtier and poorer parts of the city. There were plenty of restaurants within a short walk. The room we had was at the front so we had a great view of the Castle and Mt Vesuvius. Slippers and bathrobes were provided and the automatic window shutter ensured that it was dark and quiet overnight. Breakfast was served in a lovely bright room on the ground floor and there was a plethora of delicious food and cakes. If I ever come back to Naples I would definitely stay again.
We had a great room on the 4th floor. We could see the boats and the fort, restaurants, the sea. Easy access to the elevator and a helpful front desk. Very nice room. The street in front becomes pedestrian in the evening. Easy walking and close to taxis.
When the front desk clerk suggested we not walk on the street wearing our Rolex watches, I was concerned. We did walk to a restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised with the area. If you stay here, bring some bleach.
Older, historic hotel in good location with views of the water. Easy walking distance to restaurants and along the sea wall. Felt very safe walking around this area even at night. Restaurant menu typical for Naples. Average quality. No real bar area, but some tables set up in a space where you can order wine before venturing out for dinner.
Extensive research to book and decided on this beautiful historic hotel. We were in Naples for a short time and wanted a wonderful hotel in perfect location with restaurants near by. The room with balcony view was perfect. I highly recommend this hotel for location, comfort, friendly staff and wonderful breakfast included. The hotels on either side were substantially more $ and I couldn't see the difference. Great Stay, thank you for making our 1st night in Italy memorable!
