Enjoyed staying at this hotel during Mardi Gras... reasonable rates and friendly staff. Room was clean and comfortable. Love it
Friendly & helpful staff , felt like home! Comfortable bed, spacious room. Five star experience
Perfect hotel for the family. We had a suite, that was very comfortable for a family of 4. The staff was very friendly! Free movies and popcorn.
Awesome stay... Friendly staff, clean rooms, great location... I will be returning.
Nice hotel, laundry facility is handy, rooms are big, my only wish was a hot tub or heated pool.
For the second year in a row I stayed in this hotel during the weekend of the GoDaddy.com Bowl game. Last year, I found this hotel to be a great value. It was clean, new, nice, and staffed by friendly and helpful personnel. This year, my opinion has waned some, but I can still give it a moderate recommendation. The location is great if you have interests in the downtown area. There are dozens of restaurants and bars within walking distance and the hotel has its own free parking. They also offer free WiFi, and complementary movies on DVD that can be borrowed from the front desk. The room was fairly clean, (although I did find an open can of dog food in my refrigerator that apparently had been left by a past guest). Everything in the room was in good working order, and my stay was comfortable. The staff was friendly, and they said all the right "good customer service things" during the check-in process, but it didn't really feel sincere to me. It was like they were just saying a memorized script. Don't take this wrong, there was nothing rude or unprofessional in anyway, it was just nothing special or extraordinary either. The major down side of my stay was the steep increase in price from last year to this year. Apparently they caught on to the fact that the weekend of the parade and bowl game has high demand for lodging and the prices have gone way up. I paid somewhere around $60/night last year and I felt that price was a tremendous value. In contrast, this year's stay was an average of $160/night +taxes. For this amount, I feel that there are better options in the area. For only a few dollars more, I could have stayed in a much more upscale location. (I know this because I had friends staying in several downtown Mobile hotels this same weekend.) This hotel is fairly nice and a good value under $100 a night, but the price I paid just simply exceeds the quality of the property. I'm giving a yes recommendation, but only at a lower price. If you have to pay more than $100 per night to stay here, you will have better options in the area.
Traveled to Mobile for a bowl game and a weekend of fun. Chose the Candlewood because it was in a good location and appeared to be a good value. It is not fancy, but very clean and nice. For the price I paid, I would rate it as excellent. The staff was friendly, the location was great, the room was clean. If I looked for an area that they could improve upon, I would suggest larger beds and additional parking. I believe the bed was only a standard size. A queen or king size would have improved the comfort level for my wife and me. It was, however, a comfortable bed. The hotel was at full capacity and the parking lot filled up in the evenings. Cars were parking in places that were not actual parking spaces. Other than these two small inconveniences, it was a pleasant stay and a great value. Others in my travel group stayed in nearby hotels and paid three times what we did and did not receive much more in terms of added comfort. I would definitely choose to stay here again.
