I've stayed at The Royce on St Kilda Road several times now, always found it a comfortable, convenient option for accommodation outside the Melbourne CBD. On the tram line, walking distance to Southbank, good dining options close by. Also has a reasonable restaurant (The Dish) for inhouse dining. Street parking can be tricky but there is a valet service. A lot of variety in rooms, from standard hotel to small apartments. Very popular with professional groups. Also houses a watering hole popular after work, The Amber Room. I will be back.
On walking into the hotel I thought it would be a good night. Once in my room that all changed. I heard people talking so I opened the curtain to discover the entire wall was a window at street level and the talking were people on the street. It went on on and off most of the night. Pedestrians and cars alike. Make sure you get a room not on the ground floor. The fitness centre was a joke. A treadmill from the 70's in a room the size of a cupboard. The wifi was not free and even after paying it was so slow.
The Royce is one of my first choices to stay in Melbourne if I do not need to be in the CBD. Trams to the door make transport easy. The rooms are always well presented and very clean and staff discretely atttentive. The one downside, it is so good it often books out early.
We really like our room but expected slightly wider beds since it was supposed to be a king size divided in half not a queen. The room was lovely otherwise. The mini bar was overpriced ($20 for 375ml of wine and $2.50 per espresso pod!!!!!) and their was no room information guide to tell you about the available amenities. Wifi is $7.50 per hour and capped at 1000mb per session - in 2017 that’s a bit ridiculous and disappointing. The food was ok. We order the crab burger and the pizza which weren’t exactly exciting for the palate but when you’re hungry it’s ok. That said it’s a lovely hotel, it’s been beautifully refurbished and is a 20min wall to Flinders station or take advantage of a convenient tram stop right in front. Overall it suited our needs.
Have not stayed at the Royce for quite and while and coming back I felt totally at home. Great atmosphere and with friendly staff to help and assist. Will be back when the opportunity presents. I just wish they were closer to my main point of business in Melbourne.
I stay here when I visit my son at boarding school. The location is great but the service is why I keep coming back. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are comfortable, clean and well appointed.
My wife and I were treated with respect kindness and lots of smiles during our 5 day stay. Would re-book for our next trip in a heartbeat... and will! Concierge staff are absolutely professional helpful and fun. Owning 4 businesses I can recognize a winning formula when I encounter one.
The Royce hotel was an extremely lovely stay for me and my partner. The lobby was divine in its 1920's style, as was the impeccable service (who were happy to accommodate an early check-in). The room was exquisite and very comfortable. It was so easy to get to coming by train and was in a beautiful spot as it was surrounded by parks and gardens. We will be back very soon!
A great place to stay. Nice and quiet so you will get a good nights sleep. There is a great park close by if you need a walk or a run before or after work. Public transport is also close by so getting around town is easy.
The hotel was fabulous and a great location. Not one complaint. Unfortunately we were only in Melbourne for one night to attend a specific function but we will definitely return to the Royce Hotel when we are in Melbourne next.
