We had booked the hotel since February and we were eagerly waiting for a stay on the occasion of our wedding anniversary in April. However our booking was cancelled just two days before our arrival. We are very disappointed with the hotel.
We loved it at the Plantation club. The team were always welcoming with a smile and nothing seemed to much trouble to made your stay more special. We booked a junior suit which gave us access to he club for breakfast each day, this was an amazing array of food served with a glass of sparkling wine, the best way to start your day. Also recommend the wine and dine on Fridays.
We stayed for 9 nights from the end of March into the beginning of April (basically over the Easter holidays) and have been home just under a week now, wishing I was still there! A very warm welcome on arrival and I loved our Beachfront Junior Suite which was just a few steps from the ocean. Stunning view from the room and the room itself is very spacious and clean. We were all inclusive and thought that the overall choice was very good and it was nice to get certain foods and drinks in the room mini bar included too. Food in Mercado was excellent, a lovely surprise for a buffet restaurant, nice choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I especially enjoyed the indian flavoured fish dishes. The Edgewater was lovely for breakfast and dinner and nice to get a table on the beach if the weather was good. I enjoyed all I ate there. Food / snacks in Bar Bleu were also very tasty. I also thought the evening entertainment at Bar Bleu in the evenings was very good. Some very good musicians/singers out there. We had access to The Plantation Club and breakfasts there were lovely and would certainly set you up for the day! As it was my husband's birthday whilst we were there we arranged to have a meal at The Plantation Club to celebrate which was delicious. Thank you to Cyrille/Robby for your generosity that night, and also to Ketty for her warm welcome and kindness. I loved the beach here. I think The Outrigger certainly has the nicest stretch of beach in this area and you can take a long walk along the beaches in either direction. The hotel has an amazing reef just off it's beach which is the best I've seen so far in Mauritius. Make sure you take your own snorkelling gear though as we found out the boat house only give them out for their snorkelling trips and don't lend or hire out for general use as a rule. There is quite a current at times but there is a roped area and I found that just hanging on to that rope outside of the enclosed area and floating over the reef built up my confidence and saw some amazing colourful fish. Once you get used to it and you see others snorkelling out there it is quite safe to venture out beyond it and just let the current carry you down a little way. You can usually always stand up if need be as not deep. By the end of the holiday I'd just start off further up the beach and let myself float down towards the Tamassa or further. And if you fancy some exercise, just swim back against the current or get out and walk back ;) The first couple of days we were there it was pretty quiet but then Easter arrived and so did the people! Having said that we always managed to find a sunbed on the main beach and a big bonus was the availability of fresh pool towels. The main pool area was lovely and perfect temperature of the water this time of year. I think this hotel is really lovely and has many plus points. The setting for me is just one of the plus points being surrounded by sugar cane and palms, so do expect to encounter the odd mini lizard or frogs or maybe birds whilst you're enjoying breakfast! etc - that's the nature of nature! they won't do you any harm! Keep a look out for the fruit bats and wandering crabs too! One evening walking back to the room I must've almost stepped on a crab as I felt something grab the back of my shoe and looked down to see this crab looking quite annoyed with me lol! He went off waving his arms in the air! :) There's just a few other low rise hotels along the beach. The sunsets are beautiful. The vast majority of the staff are very friendly and helpful. Big thanks to Hans, Sandrine (please forgive my spelling of names) and the staff at Bar Blue - many to mention. Thank you once again to Cyrille and Robby for all your assistance with our stay.
When we're in need of a completely relaxing holiday where we know exactly what we're going to get, it's the Outrigger every time for us... the fact that this was our 4th stay at the hotel says it all. Coming back to the resort and seeing the familiar warm smiles from the staff is just like coming home. Our stay was absolutely wonderful... everyone we interacted with was helpful and unfailingly hospitable. The food and ambiance at the hotel were perfect and we are counting the days until we get to come back. Bhevin, Damian, Hemant, Amrish, Hans, Becks and everyone else at the hotel... thank you for making our holiday awesome!
When we first arrived very impressed with the welcoming and check in service and beautiful setting. So first day great. Rude awakening in the morning. No sun beds available. No shade. Everybody putting towels all over the deck chairs so others get nothing. Family of 10 managed to get 2 deck chairs. So now 1.30pm and plenty people left but towels are still on deck chairs so have no idea which are being used and which are not!!! Went to book a restaurant but nothing available until Saturday, day before we go home. So all booked up 6 days in advance. Have been to another 5 resorts in Mauritius and this is NOT the best by far. So looked forward to this family holiday but really disappointing.
It was my second stay at Outrigger within 6 months. Very very warm welcome. Will for sure come back to this lovely Paradise. Many thanks to all staff working in the restaurants, cleaning the rooms, they do a great, fantastic and hard job and are always smiling. Food was delicious every single day. Room clean and enough space. A special big thanks goes to Mandeesh, Rajesh, Robby and Nandish for so good taking care of us. A very special thank you goes to Jarvin B. for making our 2nd stay at Outrigger wunderful and memorable.
The Outrigger is a really lovely hotel which is perfect for families with youngish kids looking for a quiet Mauritian experience without the boom boom of the music by the pool. It’s smaller than I thought in terms of restaurants and stretch of beach and facilities but this made the staff a little more personable and familiar. Although there is a fairly limited restaurant choice the food is of an excellent standard and adults and kids are well catered for. We were really happy with the food. The rooms were of an excellent standard and although the air con was a little noisy (as they always are) it was very effective. If you are a couple without coming with kids there is an adult only section which we popped into and it looked well appointed and very nice. We had a few words with the reception about some basic bits and bobs that we felt needed addressing and staff were fantastic. The management staff really care that you have a special time and although I have been to resorts where it’s a little more generous with the All Inclusive package we were in no way disappointed and could easily recommend this holiday if a quiet, chilled retreat is what you are after. The massive pull to this place must be the coral reef, literally on your beach step and we would highly recommend that you bring good goggles as the tropical aquarium doesn’t disappoint. This isn’t a hotel that shouts out ultra posh service or super sophistication but that misses the point. Assuming the weather is great, this is the perfect hotel for families who are looking to find a hotel where the kids can be safe and you can relax by the pool or sea. Had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Many thanks to all the management staff for looking after us. A really perfect week away.
Overall, the Outrigger is a beautiful resort. Pros: Modern and clean room, great pool, facilities and staff, beautiful views. Cons: - Bar closed at 11pm every night - Only 3 restaurants in total. The main restaurant had buffet options but these became very repetitive, there was also no authentic Mauritian food options. The other 2 restaurants had limited vegetarian options.
Service is too slow, every request requires to much time to be answered. On the beach there are no chairs and towels for all the guests. Plus they don t provide nor rent any snorkeling materials. For a five star hotel , one was expecting more.
I travelled alone from the UK to Mauritius in January and I can say it's the best holiday I've ever had. The staff made it 5 star experience for me and they are genuinely nice people. They were friendly, helpful and made me feel special. I wanted to have a quiet time away from all the hustle and bustle in England for my birthday and I came back with friends. I was well looked after by Savita on reception; what amazing front of house you have. In the restaurant I was greeted by the lovely staff Manav, Anusha, Sheetal, Hershita who went above and beyond for me. On the beach there was a gentleman called Nitin who stood there in the heat to wait on me everyday. The Terr Ocean staff Sharon and Jean-Pierre were always helpful and simply lovely to talk to. Food was amazing, weather was perfect, the resort is clean and the room was spacious. I can't wait to go back!!
