I am quite sad to have to write a bad review but given the service, I have to do it and hope they use it for betterment. I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights in early Jan 2018. Pros: - The main building of the hotel is beautiful. - The rooms are spacious. - There are water activities proposed for free such as paddle, kayak, snorkeling, glass bottom boat. This is quite rare to be mentioned and really appreciable. Cons: - Upon arrival you are asked to pay for the stay (most hotel usually charge you at the end of the stay, but this is not a major issue). And on top of that, the hotel is blocking 5,000MRU on your bank account for eventual future consumptions. I find this lack of trust pitiful. - So they block 5,000MRU immediately on your bank account. At the end of the stay when you check out and have to settle your account, if you decide to pay by cash, they tell you that the 5,000MRU will be unblocked only within 3 days. So they block immediately some money that you have not even spent, and they take 3 days to unblock it even if you have settled it in cash at the end! - There were a lamp not working in the room (which is already quite dark at night) and when mentioned to the reception, they said they were aware of it and someone would come only the day after. Well, I was leaving the next day so it was not making any difference tome. (this is a minor issue and could not care really) - There were a very strong smell of urine from the toilet spreading into the rest of the room. I mentioned it to the reception and they sent someone (2h later) who did a very quick clean and then only put an air freshener to hide the smell. WHO ARE YOU KIDDING! When I mentioned it to the reception they said someone would come do a deep cleaning the day after. SERIOUSLY! (again I was leaving the day after so it was not helping at all). - I could not book a restaurant for the 2 days as it was fully booked. The hotel can host over 500 people (presumably much more) and they have a restaurant that can host only 50-70 people. They told me that we should make a reservation for diner 2 days in advance, BUT I was there only for 2 days so how could I do that. If only they had informed me before arrival, I could have already booked something, but there I was left with no choice but the buffet which I found very average. I mentioned again the issues when I did the check out and I could see the lady was barely listening. I am still waiting for a simple "sorry" which nobody even bother saying. When you pay over 300euros per night, you expect a certain level of service and understanding. This was completely no were to be seen at this hotel and not in line with 5* standards. I am really disappointed and would not recommend people to stay there.
Best Friends in Paradise This will be our 7th trip back to Outriggers. That alone should state how much we love visiting this super special Resort. But this time our very dear Friends flew in from South Africa to meet up with us and spend a week and a half at this beautiful spot. They are a family of 2 adults and 2 small kids. We had a super friendly speedy check in with Francesca at reception and We were given rooms very near each other so we were able to spend time at the same private pool as well as enjoy the use of the Plantation Club. We arrived at 1:30pm to check in early and join our friends for lunch at The Edgewater Grill. They offer a vast assortment of dishes on the menu and once again we went for the spring rolls, dim sum, the fish in the banana leaf and hamburgers. There are over 4 courses for lunch and you will not be left wanting. We decided to make use of their new ice cream stand – if you have opted for the all inclusive option, there are a number of wines and beers that you can choose from as well as all soft drinks and the ice creams at the ice cream stand are all free as well. ( amazing creamy gelato) We spent some time at the large pool and kids slide and then spent some time at the pool closest to our rooms (3018) it has its own little bar area too. We had afternoon tea and cocktails later that day at the Plantation Club, Ketty and her team (Jayshiree)and all the others are simply superb and its always such a joy to visit and enjoy time there. The evening was spent dining at the Plantation Club which was super duper special as both myself and VW, my good friend from South Africa celebrated our birthdays together. 2 beautiful delicious chocolate mousse cakes were brought to our table at the end of our meal and we were sang to by the wonderfully special team at The Plantation Club. It is such a treat to be surrounded by such wonderful people, we all found the evening to be incredibly special. The Plantation club menu is utterly superb and you will find so many delicious dishes on the menu, you will have a Rs1500 credit when you dine at the Club, meaning that you are able to order anything off the menu to the value of Rs1500, we usually opt for a main and a dessert. The following day we spent lounging by the pools and walking on the beach, We took the pedal boat out for a spin and they also have snorkeling masks that you can borrow. I would highly suggest going for a snorkel as the marine life just off the beach is remarkable. Truly spectacular. We dined at Mercado in the evening which is a buffet that caters to everyone's tastes. As usual the asian corner was delicious, my son always find something yummy at the kids station and tops up his plate at the other stations (roast chicken and roast potatoes), and my husband is always going back to the indian station for more curries tasty indian dishes. The desserts table is a treat and be sure to ask for their delicious ice creams in a cone :-) Sadly we had to leave the following morning and Danielle was there to bid us farewell, shes always so helpful and lovely. Always sad to leave but we are thrilled that we will be able to return to our favorite spot within the next couple of months :-) We're looking forward to it already!!!!
We have visited Mauritius on five separate occasion and this was by far our most disappointing hotel experience. We had booked and PREPAID two beachfront junior suites. Upon arrival we were met by sulky reception staff: there were 3 or 4 of them, talking among themselves for at least 5 minutes before one of them addressed us. They made us book and pay an expensive New Year's Eve dinner for our family of 5 BEFORE stating that there was "an issue with the rooms". Turns out there were no beachfront junior suites available anymore and were were being downgraded to a lower category room; they invoked "some operational problems with the website". Our agent had been informed already 4 days earlier apparently but nobody had bothered informing us. We had no choice but to accept. We were given full board as compensation but by far would have preferred the prepaid rooms. Our room turned out to have 2 leaks: 1 just in front of the front door which created a mud pool; the other one in the shower ceiling (the plaster was falling down). They fixed the first leak after we contacted housekeeping. Their "solution" for the shower leak was to apply a copious amount of white sealant which also ended up on our shower floor the next day and stayed there until the end of our stay. There is a nice Plantation Club with a nice pool but here again the flaws were many: it was the Christmas period when there are many guests and prices are sky-high. Still one of the (only) 4 poolside palapas had completely broken down and was never fixed during our stay (it must have been broken since a long time as weeds were growing through the bottom slats). Each day no fresh towel before 11 AM or noon so we all had to use dirty towels from the previous day til then. Broken toilet seat in the ladies' room. I could go on. The spa was nice but not on a par with the spas at other hotels we've been to. New Year's Eve dinner was on the roof of the Mercado restaurant. The food was OKish but as every table had been equipped with several party horns, there were kids everywhere blowing them incessantly. The noise in the dinner hall was so deafening that we fled outside at 9 PM already. In Mauritius we can recommend Club Med Plantation d'Albion, Paradise Cove and Le Touessrok. Way better than Outrigger which we definitely will not visit again.
We were thoroughly disappointed by the level of luxury that we encountered. This is not a bad mid-class accommodation, but the price suggested a much higher quality level. The staff were friendly, but the organization was poor. Most restaurants and the spa needed to be booked days in advance...but no one told us until we arrived. We often had to wait an hour for towels at the pool. The hotel taxis needed to be paid in cash, but their was no ATM around - the hotel was only willing to "lend" us a simple taxi fare at a 10% commission. When it was raining, there was not enough seating in the breakfast hall, so we had to wait in line. We could go on about these minor irritants, that would be no problem if we felt we had we had paid a low price. But we paid for luxury...and didn't get it.
My husband and I visited this resort for a special 25th Anniversary holiday...we were totally blown away by the gorgeous hotel and the people working to make our holiday perfect. Our room was facing the ocean on the first floor and we couldn't fault it. We were greeted with fresh fruit and a bottle of Fizz! From day one we felt relaxed and well looked after. The food options were always good and every day we were greeted with smiling faces wishing us a good day. We really did have the perfect holiday and didn't want to leave to come home.
The Place Builds up as you travel from the airport to Bel Ombre and the place doesn't disappoint, from the moment you move out of lobby you can see the turquoise water and sand !! The Beaches are clean and the place offers tranquility and quiet. Amazing for photography ( Day and Night) For sports enthusiasts, the hotel has some water sports available, I however did not use the facility. The staff though is friendly but not that helpful, I had gone there on my Honeymoon trip and the hotel managed to get low of things wrong.
our room was very nice - on the beachfront. Room was well appointed - looked pretty new on the inside. friendly and helpful boathouse staff - we did a private glass bottom boat trip with our toddler food pretty average - esp at the beachfront restaurant
Honestly, overall we had a wonderful experience. We stayed from Christmas Eve and through New Years, so it was a lovely time of year to spend on a beach and we had perfect weather. We were half-board (breakfast and dinner covered) and it was perfect for us. Our kids are 12, 11, & 8 and we would wake up around 9 and head to breakfast by 9:30 or 10:00 at the Plantation (where the breakfast ladies were the best service of anywhere at the resort). Food from everywhere was great. They easily catered to all of our weird family food issues (gluten free, lactose free, no fish/seafood, etc). We LOVED the happy-hour at the Plantation each evening, where we sat and played cards and had a drink. Our room was spacious and clean. The cleaning people were so sweet and made those towel animals each day that made the kids happy. The beds were average, but no bed is as good as my own! We struggled with noise a bit... but it was holiday time, so I don't know if the late night music and parties are normal during "normal" time. Also, our neighbors were from Asia and were a bit jet-lagged and woke us up several mornings in a row by just opening doors and slamming doors and talking (but kind of yelling) at each other.... my husband finally got up after a day or two and asked them to please keep it down... So, again - all in all, it was a lovely experience. We would definitely stay at an Outriggers again and would highly recommend it to anyone with a family!
Four starts for the hotel- it’s absolutely beautiful, breath taking views, very clean rooms! My husband and I are on our honeymoon and they had drawn a bubble bath for us and sprinkled flowers everywhere which was a very sweet touch! Two stars for the customer service in Blu Bar. And I still think giving two stars is generous. My husband and I came in for lunch and we sat for at least 25 min with absolutely no service. The waiters were even staring at us but did not bring over menus, water, or even greet us. We decided to move to a different table in hopes of getting noticed. Still nothing. About 15 minutes after we moved a family came in and sat down at the table we had been at and within 5 minutes they had service. After 10 more minutes went by I went up to the bar and asked for menus. The bartender said he would bring them over to our table. 15 more minutes went by and still nothing. I finally put my hand up and waved over one of the servers and asked for menus AGAIN. We had told him we were a little upset because we have been sitting for so long with no service. He said he would be back with menus but he didn’t seem to care and was not apologetic. After about 5 more minutes he finally brought over the menus (after helping other guests). I ordered water to drink and my husband ordered a beer. 20 min later they brought over the beer and asked if I had ordered anything. It should not take that long to get WATER! Especially on a really hot day. We love how beautiful this hotel is but don’t know if we will be back because of how terrible the service is. During our stay in Mauritus we stayed at 3 different hotels in various places of the island. Outrigger was definitely the nicest of them all but has by FAR thee worst customer service out of ANYWHERE we visited on the island.
Amazing Place,Verry Friendly Staff and Amazing food. We went on a two week holiday here ,during our stay we had our wedding on the beach . Unexpectedly during our stay our son cracked his head open diving into the swimming pool (WARNING SHALLOW ). Within minutes we had medical staff on hand and we had a buggy to take us to the taxi rank witch took us to the hospital . As soon as we got back all of the staff were really kind to our son having a laugh and joking around with him he loved it . From The Minute We Arrived To me Minute We Left ,The staff were amazing and friendly. Room was massive, great chose of drinks . The spa is amazing ,the food is the best would recommend it anytime To annyone !!! . Definitely visit in the future .
