Ramada Marquette3.0 out of 5.0

The building is old and not well maintained. The carpet is very worn, the east building smells like they used toilet cleaner on the walls. The front desk was friendly but could not give directions even within the hotel itself
The hotel is conveniently located, always happy to find a place that welcomes my dog. Room was fairly quiet even though it was very close to ice machine. Two issues, the free breakfast was a choice of two meals at the restaurant. Both were heavy choices for this cereal eater. Second, the first night I could not turn off the air conditioner. Staff finally unplugged it saying maintenance would look at it in the morning. Room was a little cool by the next morning and stuffy by the next night since maintenance never showed.
Ramada of Marquette was satisfactory for our needs for out patient surgery. Staff was helpful and found us a nice discount. The motel layout was sort of confusing. But overall and nice stay.
The staff were very welcoming and the food at the restaurant was good. My biggest complaint is that the carpet in the hallway was filthy! Not sure why it hasn't been replaced or professionally cleaned. Also there was not an elevator to our floor which was difficult at times as we traveled with a toddler.
Bathroom shower was very outdated. I am 5'7", and the height of the showerhead was at the level of my shoulders. We had a single queen room, which had a very uncomfortable mattress. Other family members had the double queen rooms, which appeared to have newer beds, which they reported to be comfortable. Would not recommend or return.
I had to go to Upper Michigan for business and stayed in Marquette because it was the most convenient for getting to the airport. I didn't make the arrangements but the staff person who did said that in the first week of August the Ramada was the most economical. I paid $191 for one night! Breakfast was not included. They did not have a US Today in the morning or any morning paper. The room was average at best. This is an older Ramada that the owners have attempted to remodel but I was torn between poor and average and settled on average to be kind.
One positive: the free breakfast was decent and restaurant wait staff was pleasant. The rest was negative: Reserved 2 rooms for 2 nights with a co-worker on a Tues and Wed night. We were given 2 rooms in a section we had trouble finding and didn't know existed past the pool area. No elevator or ramp so we had to haul our luggage and bags up a flight of stairs to our rooms. Hallway carpet was extremely stained and was near a back entrance that seemed to have had heavy traffic. Felt like the 'slum' area of the hotel. Our rooms were unlike previous rooms we've stayed at this Ramada before....smaller with a tiny bathroom with no counter space. Pool area was noisy but closed at 11...still had a terrible night with parking lot noise and hallway noise most of night (even with ear plugs in and white noise playing as loud as possible). Severe back ache from 2 uncomfortable nights. Only one light switch worked in the room, even after trying it with each lamp turned on. Wore shoes most of the time in the room but had bare feet for a half hour after which the bottoms of my feet were black. May be a coincidence but my co-worker ended up with pink eye, with the lack of cleanliness could very well have been from her room. Very disappointing, especially traveling on business and choosing this Ramada repeatedly for ourselves and others within the company. Didn't seem to be that busy to the point that we were given rooms in the worst section of the property.
The staff at the front desk and in the lounge were very efficient and friendly! BUT when we got to the 4th floor where are room was, it had a foul urine odor. Especially on one end of the hall. This should really be addressed if you want to have people stay on this floor. Luckily we were in the middle location so we could put up with it for one night otherwise I would have reported it and would have asked to be moved to a different floor. Maybe a good steam clean of the carpeting would be a good start.
This hotel was $190 for a two queen bed room. I don't know why it was so expensive as it wasn't an amazing room by any means. The bathroom was very small and surprising there was not even a continental breakfast. They did have a full service restaurant but it was closed when we left Saturday morning. Very unimpressed with this hotel.
Lovely quiet, clean room. Excellent staff but we were here during the week and we missed seeing LeRoy serving in the breakfast area. Seems he only works week ends? We'll be back.
