Hotel prices in the summer in this area are pretty high in my opinion. Our stay at the Econolodge was adequate to good. Room was clean and large, it had a table and chairs and a small fridge (no little freezer though.) The bathroom was very clean, they are a little stingy with the towels but I'm sure if I complained they would have remedied the situation. The room never quite lost it's damp, slightly musty smell -- this is also typical for a place in this area - maybe it could be addressed if they ran the window A/C units when the rooms aren't occupied. The staff was extremely helpful and nice. Breakfast was adequate - nothing fancy -- self made waffles, cereal, etc. The place is right across from the lake but you really shouldn't try crossing the busy rode on foot. There is a roadside visitor center just a short distance away that you can drive to.
We booked the Econo Lodge to bring my son up to NMU. The room was very smoky smelling, old smoke not fresh. We notified the desk that we were non smokers and did not want to be charged a fee which they said they would not charge us and it was noted. I am very sensitive to dust it was a Dusty room the curtains just billowed with dust when we open them obviously not cleaned for a long time. We also notified the desk and they said they would take care of it for future. The beds were clean, the room was clean except some dust. The breakfast was adequate in the staff was exceptionally friendly. There was a lot of crumbling cement around outside. I would not recommend this to someone elderly who does not have stable footing. We paid $200 for the night which was exceptionally high for what we got but it was the going rate for the area at that time. Unless this was a last resort I would not stay here again
My husband and I were passing through on our way farther north. We were traveling with our dog. This hotel is pet friendly and worked well for us. There is a path across the highway (don't play Frogger-go right down the road and park at the welcome center) that is located right along Lake Superior. An excellent place to walk/exercise your furry friend. Everyone was very friendly. Breakfast was the normal fare. Prices were affordable.
I called at 1:00 am in the morning and got a "live" person. Ten minutes later I walked in and I was greeted by a very friendly woman that had my check-in ready to go. Turns out she was the owner and was very friendly and accommodating. I was in bed five minutes later. The room would have passed my wife's "clean" test. It was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was hot and the breakfast was good. When I woke up in the morning I had a great view of Lake Superior across the street. It was a great way to start the day with a hot cup of coffee. I will stay here again when in Marquette and you should too.
My husband and I stayed here Sunday night we where going to Munising the next day. I was a bit sceptical at first we usually don't stay at at econo lodges. Boy was I suprised it was actually nice. Now the hotel is not exactly right on lake Superior but across the hwy, it is not bad because there is a trail on the other side where you can walk right next to the lake. The hotel is old but looks like they are trying to keep it looking nice. The room was nice and clean and looked updated minus the bath tub which was older (I am posting pictures to show). We where on the 2nd floor in the separated building it has a balcony that looks out. This place also had complimentary coffee. Breakfast was small but was contenental. Waffles, eggs, sausage, yougurt, apples, oranges, breads, and cereal. Over all stay was nice I had no complaints.
Our family stayed here with our dog. It is a very nice hotel at a fantastic location overlooking Lake Superior. This used to be a very high end hotel that is now an amazing bargain. Our stay included a very nice breakfast. We will certainly stay here again.
I've been dropping in here for years thanks to Bring Fido. Since our first stay they've upgraded many things including beds, carpet, sinks, exterior, etc. thanks, Econo Lodge, this is a comfortable spot to rest for a night with our pup.
This Econo Lodge has become our go to place to stay in Marquette when up to visit our daughter who is a student at NMU. Unlike some of the other hotels they don't jack up their prices horribly on move-in or other weekends at the university. Consistently clean and friendly staff. Breakfast is reliably good and they allow dogs but whole place does not smell like a dog which is great. Best of all you look right out on Lake Superior. Best budget hotel in Marquette.
We've stayed at many places in Marquette over the last several months and this was the first time trying out the Econo Lodge. As I've mentioned before I like the motel rooms where I can pull right up to the room and this was a good motel for that. They do also have hotel rooms but I had a motel room. It was very clean, a nice breakfast, and very nice gals at the front desk. Thank you Katie for being so kind, as well as the rest of the staff we came in contact with! It's not a 5 star but for the price range it's great. The location can be thought of as good or bad depending on your preference. They're located just out of town and have a great view being right across the street from the lake. It's a busy street so not sure if you can walk across to the lake in the Summer, we were there in Jan. You can't walk to any restaurants or shopping but it's all close by. We like experimenting but will definitely come back here.
I was a little concerned when I pulled up and one vehicle was in the parking lot and the buildings looked old. Check-in was fast and friendly. I got up to the room and one of the hooks on curtain was off so you couldn't close drapes all the way. I checked the bedding and found small woodchip and what appeared to be eyelash hair on pillowcase. Sheets looked and smelled clean and the room was clean so I went back to the front desk. Employee was very good, she apologized and offered to fix or change the room to two doors over as it was available. I took the new room and it was clean with everything in proper order. Got a good night sleep. Breakfast was standard fare but my waffle was sticking and just when I was starting to get frustrated an employee appeared and sprayed griddle then made me a new one while apologizing. Check-out was fast and the lady at the desk was super friendly and gave me tips for my drive to Houghton.
