Hotel Francisco I2.0 out of 5.0

I had an outstanding experience at Hotel Francisco. The hotel is in a vintage building with a clean and modern/sleek updated interior. The location was superb- walking distance to the Plaza Mayor and other sites. The staff was friendly and helpful. And the breakfast that was included was fantastic. Excellent coffee, too. There was street noise at night, but that is because the hotel is in a lively part of town. And as a woman staying alone before meeting up with friends, I felt extremely safe and comfortable.
The hotel is walking distance to important tourist spots!! Staff very helpful too. I requested for the front desk to open my bottle of wine and they immediately helped. Rooms are new and hotel has a modern interior.
I have been staying at Hotel Francisco I for a number of years, and I am always welcomed, treated like a queen, and completely happy with my accommodations. The rooms are spotless, large, and very nicely decorated. The beds are extremely comfortable -- and I have a $5K bed and am very fussy. Linens, towels, are very nice. The bathrooms are extremely modern and well-maintained, and roomy. There is a ton of light and electrical outlets. You will have enough storage space, closest space, desk space. There is an in-room safe large enough for 15" laptop (I think!), and a mini fridge. Every time I have asked for a room with a balcony, I have gotten one -- it's so wonderful! The hotel is on a pedestrian street Calle Arenal, which connects the Opera and Sol Metro stops. It's moments from Plaza Mayor and the amazing Mercado San Miguel. The side streets nearby and somewhat busy too so you can have endless entertainment. However, if you want it DARK and QUIET, just close the tight shutters, and the thick french doors and you will have a cave-like experience. All the staff has been amazing -- from providing me with a stainless thermos for hot water so I could make tea, and on one occasion, storing a suitcase for me, for free, for a month! I have had rooms that I paid $60 for that were nicer than hotel rooms that cost hundreds of dollars. There is a breakfast available for 7E but I am rarely up that early when I am in Madrid. If you have more money to spend, you can doubtless specify a more deluxe room on a higher floor with a balcony, but my point is that you cannot beat the location, the service, or the quality. And Madrid is one place you won't even want to spend much time in your room. However, the time you spend there will feel great. I can't wait to go back!
This hotel doesn't even deserve a rating! Unfortunately, to move forward I had to rate it something. You guys should be so ashamed of yourselves! Absolutely horrible hotel and I've never even stayed there! I am one of many in Florida being affected by hurricane Irma. My flight has been cancelled and rescheduled three different times due to the weather. I couldn't even get a flight out to evacuate for safety. It has been extremely scary!! I had a trip to Spain planned and booked a hotel room at this garbage of a hotel. When I got the notification that my flight was cancelled, I contacted the site I booked this hotel through and they contacted the hotel and the hotel would not let me cancel my reservation. Instead they charged me a cancellation fee of $395 and insisted that I had to rebook and pay the difference and to add they said they were doing me a favor. How heartless are these people??!!This hurricane is beyond my control and they acted as if I had a choice in the matter. I even provided documentation that my flight was cancelled but they charged me anyway. Fortunately, the site I booked through was able to refund the money. I can't stress enough how heartless and cruel these people are. I was looking forward to my trip to Spain but I have no desire to step foot in that country. To the hotel Francisco, shame on you! You don't do that to people!!
This hotel is listed as a two star hotel but don't be fooled! It is a boutique hotel that gives a lot and deserves a higher rating. Modern clean rooms with very comfortable beds! Very friendly helpful staff and a good breakfast. Very central on as pedestrianised street. Don't miss it!
What can I say negative about the hotel - nothing!! We booked it because of the good reviews we read and then as time got closer worried a little as it is only a 2 star hotel. GO NOW before it gains more stars and gets too expensive. It has recently been refurbished and the complete hotel is outstanding - very quirky and bright. Rooms are large with good air conditioning. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is very good value - you can even make your own pancakes!! And location is excellent. Really enjoyed my stay in Madrid - beautiful city, and the hotel was the icing on the bun!!!! We found at night when we closed the shutters and doors that we could not hear any street noise - can't recommend this beautiful hotel enough!!
My second stay in this fabulous hotel. The last in 2014. The hotel has had a makeover since then and the gorgeous breakfast room which transforms into a bar is a great addition. I can honestly say this is the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in. Staff so friendly and helpful and the central location is ideal for exploring all Madrid has to offer. With the shutters and windows closed the sounds from the bustling Madrid streets are shut out for a peaceful, blissful nights sleep. Else you can listen to the amazing opera singers and violinists at the church next door. Highly recommended!
The hotel was amazing, perfect location, perfect size, perfect price, well worth it, free wifi, such comfy beds. Towels and maid service everyday. Right next to opera metro, definitely go from the airport to the city by metro it's €5, definitely better than €23 taxi. Madrid was amazing, search things to do in Madrid for free there's so many things to do and if you're under 25 and a student bring your student card as the museum and palace are either free or half price. If you want a cheap as chips meal e.g sandwiches are €1 and chips was €1.50 (baring in mind food is so expensive) go to 100 montaditos, it's basically Spanish fast food but only 5 minute walk from the hotel.
Don't be scared by the fact that it has only 2 starts, thw hotel is great: - good food - great location in the center, close to the train station (it's called Sol) and lota of shops in case you need anything - friendly and helpful staff that smiles at you every time - the rooms aren't too big, but they are really clean and the furniture is modern - not very expensive All in all we had a great experience in Madrid by staying here, that's why I recommend it.
This hotel is in a perfect location for walking to all of the sites that you want to see in Madrid. We were worried if it'd be quiet in the room, as Madrid night life is bustling. We could hear no outside noise at all. The price was right.
