We spent two very comfortable nights. The location, at the entrance to Machu Picchu, is perfect, the rooms are of good size with comfortable beds and access to a pátio, the staff are very attentive and helpful and the restaurant offers a good range of food and beverages for all three meals of the day. We could not fault anything - an excelente hotel.
Beautiful hotel, fantastic service from people who really care Food in the restaurant was excellent as was our room service breakfast. The location is second to none although as you’d expect it does come a little expensive I would definitely book a Belmond Hotel again Thank you for a memorable stay x
The Sanctuary was just that after a top of the world experience at Machu Picchu, the welcome and service was top of the world too. Our room disappointed, size and positioning to external noise was an issue. Harsh rating but as a one off visit it wasn’t quite there
Obviously, there is a tremendous advantage to staying a in hotel which is located right outside the Machu Picchu entrance, which is a huge plus. But aside from the location, the hotel IS a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of Aguas Calientes the long lines of the bus which carries visitors up and down the narrow switchbacks, and the crowds of tourists at Machu Picchu itself. From the warm and welcoming greeting, to the relaxing terrace and orchid walk, to the small but beautifully outfitted rooms, everything about this place says tranquility. You can feel your stress level lower 10 notches the moment you walk in the door. Yes, it is pricey, but it is totally worth the splurge. Keep in mind that everything is included—three incredible meals, open bar, the mini bar in your room, and drinks served on the terrace. The front desk staff is super helpful (they arranged for a wonderful private guide, and even printed our M.P tickets when we accidentally left them behind in Cuzco), the wait staff is attentive and courteous, and the bartender, Antonio, is fun and super creative with the cocktails. The housekeeping staff keeps the rooms and public areas immaculate, which included a lovely turn-down service with music, a giant candle, slippers and truffles. Our private guide, Elbis, was knowledgeable, interesting, and very attuned to the physical abilities of his clients). He really made this magical, mystical place accessible. The hotel even provides changing rooms with showers if you want to clean up after the check out time of 11:00 am. And you can hang out on the grounds while waiting to take the bus back to bustling Aguas Calientes. So if you want to step into a different world during your once-in-a-lifetime trip to Machu Picchu, indulge yourself at the Belmond Sanctuary Hotel. (Pictures are views from the hotel grounds)
For most, this is definitely a splurge hotel and so worth it!! This location allows the advantage to see the ruins in the evening and early in the morning before all of the tourists arrive. Great on-site restaurant and lovely breakfast buffet included. Small room but very comfortable.
Loved our stay here. Great food in the restaurant, fantastic location for visiting Machu Picchu - we went first thing in the morning then back to the hotel for breakfast and then back in to climb Huayna Picchu. Spotless rooms and lovely gardens.
The location is next to the entrance of the temple ruins (1min. walk). The service starts at the train station, where the bell boy is taking care of your luggage. The bus brings you directly to the entrance of the Hotel. The service provided in check in and restaurant is good and friendly but not exceptionel as you would expect from Belmond chain. Also the rooms are basic for the price you pay. The best of it is and thats why you pay this price, that you can be first to enter the temple ruins in the morning at 6 a.m. and that made my stay unforgettable, seeing the ruins without anybody standing around.
I only booked this hotel for its location, I have wanted to go to Machu Picchu (MP) for as long as I can remember and I wanted to have at least 2 visits to the citadel. Therefore this hotel was the best option as I did not want to stay in Aguas Calientes and have to do the bus 4 times to undertake the 2 visits I wanted. It was very expensive for my budget but it did not disappoint. I could not fault anything about the hotel at all. The room was lovely, with thoughtful items such as umbrellas and great smelling toiletries that were refillable; and the lighted makeup mirror was an excellent addition for me. The food in the restaurant for all of our meals was fabulous and beautifully presented. I enjoyed the Pisco tasting and the Pisco Sour afterwards followed by gorgeous food. The breakfast selection was brilliant, with everything anyone could have wanted available as well as freshly cooked eggs etc. I did not have time to use the spa but had a quick jaunt around the gardens which were beautifully laid out and offered splendid views of MP. The staff were helpful and could not do enough for you, clearly very well-trained. Most only go to MP once in their lifetime therefore I recommend splashing out and staying at this hotel. You won't regret it.
This is a wonderful hotel that’s so convenient to MP entrance. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Room was small, but comfortable, and bath was tiny. We understood that space was at a premium in this location. Restaurant was enjoyable with good food. Really enjoyed our stay!
We had lunch in the restaurant after hiking Machu Picchu. We were tired and hungry. David our waiter was so kind and experienced to tell us the best choices and drinks. He was interesting in answering all our questions about the area.. he is a ninja 5 star waiter!
