Van der Valk Hotel Maastricht4.0 out of 5.0

Hotel itself is quite alright. The rooms are well renovated and the bar has nice staff. However we showed up having reserved 4 rooms, and only 1 was ready at the promised 2 pm. A second one was ready at 3, another at 3:30 and the last one wasn’t ready until 4:30PM, well over 2,5 hours after check in time. This in all was very appalling. Restaurant was good.
Don't know how long ago - ten year or already longer? - the outdated hotel- and restaurant chain van der Valk initiated its own resurrection into what it is today: efficient and very friendly service, modern, spacious rooms, good restaurant and top notch breakfast. Most of the hotels also have a pool and some spa facilities. Maastricht branch lives up to these new high standards. Excellent ! One item for improvement: the city center is too distant for walking and also the route along the highway is uninviting. So: the hotel offers vouchers for taxi service. This offer is limited to one drop-off location and is too expensive. Free shuttle service is available, but only a couple of days a week. Extend this service, guys!
Nice hotel with suitably big rooms. Very polite staff. A big plus for accepting dogs. On a minus side - The swimming pool too small with almost no space for resting around it. On the other hand, quite pleasant 3 different types of sauna.
The hotel is ideally located for visiting the historic city of Maastricht. We stayed there a few nights in the week before Christmas and the hotel was tastefully decorated. The room was comfortable and so was the bed. The view from the bedroom window was not that great but hey, you are close to a magnificent city. Our main issue was the breakfast. Although the offering is fantastic, for us there were too many people, hence my title "Too busy for comfort". Having said all this, we would come back but would just have room service breakfast as we had on our first morning.
The van der Valk hotel is easy-to-reach by car, there are plenty parking places around. The lobby is roomy and the reception is friendly. The hotel has a good restaurant and bar, no need to go out on the street. The rooms are well equipped and the bed is great, everything works as it should. The breakfast buffet has a large selection of fruit, cheese, meat, rolls. It was a pleasurable start of the day. Won't mind getting back here.
It’s a nice business hotel. The room is of good size and maintained. The staff is also well behaved. Food is good. Location is away from city but taxis are readily available. It has gym and a good restaurant
very nice hotel, good service and perfect position, but in the room there was a strong smell of dirty water.. it was impossible to sleep. for the rest everything was good... parlking rooms, cleanliness
Where to start? Well, definitely not worth the money. Could have stayed in a 3star hotel for half the price and have the same/better comfort. First, the hotel is NOT reachable by foot from the town. Ok, there s a free shuttle from the hotel to the hotel to the center, but not back. And it only drives a few times a day, in particular times - we were told 12.30 and 15.00 if I remember correctly. The restaurant staff was correct, but nothing more than that. The bed was noisy and not conformable at all, the pillows were to also to soft and not comfortable. And only 3 pillows in a double room (we are used to the variety of pillows in other hotel chains with 4and even 3 stars rating!) The towels in the bathroom shave seen better days, although they were clean, but very much used and not soft at all. No slippers in the room, and the other bathroom amnesties were also rather poor - shower cap, shampoo and hair lotion, bath foam and body lotion. Again, at 4stars I'm used to more. The worst details - old wallpaper in the room, partly got loose, the bed header was made of leather, but was scratched at one place rather hard (20*20 cm) - didn't look very hygienic. Like somebody was rubbing against it :-( The room temperature could not be regulated. Even with the radiator off, and thermostat on 15C the room could not get cold enough to sleep in, and if you open the window - you are right on the highway - not possible to sleep like that! It was to warm and the air was dry. horrible sleep quality! Not to say only bad things, on the other hand, WIFI was strong and constant and TV had a very good choice of programs. To conclude - unfortunately (cause I really hate giving bad reviews!) will not stay here again, and would not recommend this place.
We love this hotel. We upgraded ourself to a comfort room. Large room with comfy beds. Very quiet at the back of the hotel. Nice bathroom with separate walk -in shower. Nespresso coffeemaker! In the evening we booked the LiveCooking buffet at €35 pp all inclusive (food and drinks). Very good quality and quantity. The next morning the quality continued. The breakfast buffet is huge with lots of items from eggs to order till pancakes, salmon, yoghurts, breads, spreads, cheeses, juice, etc. We loved the smoothies!! Free parking!
