Typical Novotel property. Clean and tidy. Helpful staff. Impersonal. Reasonable breakfast. Maastricht is a nice town and walking to the centre takes around 30 minues from the hotel. Decent breakfast. Key cards worked in this hotel - The ONLY Novotel where this happend.
Beautiful hotel. Everything immaculate. Very friendly & English speaking staff to a terrified Scot on tour. Rooms great. Air conditioning what a relief. Dining not so good - for us hungry fast eaters. My fault !! The Dutch, Germans & suppose mainland Europe do have a different eating habit. Slowly. So 1 girl do 11 tables. Think only 1 chef too. But it was a Sunday which I was told was a quiet day & most places shut. Food excellent when came. Breakfast was continental as chefs had not got cooked breakfast by 7am. Shame.
So a well presented hotel but after a 5 hour drive I just wanted a wash and then get the shuttle into the centre, this was not possible as the shuttle bus on a Sunday was not in use. Using bookings.com this wasn't advised so I planned my hotel due to parking and the free shuttle bus, but at a cost of €9.50 each way for a taxi and the city tax of €10 wasn't mentioned and the parking of €8, I could of got a better deal closer to the centre I Hope the breakfast is a good one before I start driving again.
You can check from my reviews that I stay in Novotels quite a bit in different countries but sadly I rate Maastricht francise as second worst I have visited (after Lisbon) due to poor value for money and strange rules which are inconsistent with Novotel in other locations. We have paid €190 for a junior suite, which for this hotel chain is steep. As a seasoned traveler I know what to expect in a suite: upgraded amenities, complementary beverages (often alcoholic) and more space. Apart from more space there was nothing special there, it was bare like a hospital. Everything was painfully basic, 2 sad bottles of toiletries like is a standard room, when I asked to deliver bathrobe and slippers I was told I have to pay extra! For suite customers? This has really annoyed me! No reasoning whatsoever was reaching a receptionist. She clearly did not care. Customer care at its worst! On the positive side the blond tall lady in a bar was lovely. She is a credit to this place. It was quiet at night - positives end here. The bed was so firm that I woke up with a bad back. Location is terrible unless you have plenty of time as walk to the centre is good 25 min. and we are fit. As a silver member of Accor I have certain privileges but I had to chase drink voucher and late checkout was also an issue so we have left as standard at 12. 28 km further in Aachen is absolutely wonderful centrally located Novotel Aachen when they really value me as elite member and returning customer and honour elite privileges so I will only stay there from now on and it is 40% cheaper! The executive rooms and suites offer what you expect and more! We will do what we need to in Maastricht and sleep in Germany. Sorry Novotel Maastricht but you have failed me and I rarely give only 2 stars among my considerable hotel reviews count.
For a relaxing stay on a 20 minute walk from the heart of Maastricht City, don't hesitate to book a room at this hotel. The standard rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. Provided with all the basic and extra needs. Friendly staff. The breakfast buffet is superb. For those who find it hard to walk, there is a free pendelservice from the hotel to the citycenter.
We stayed here one night and it was a pleasant stay. Friendly and clean. The location of the hotel is not super: outside the center . The room was O.K. and we slept very well, because there was no noise at all. The breakfast was quite good.
The rooms are the standard Novotel ones, but quite ok. Toillet was very well maintained. The location is not great, but you can walk to the center in around 25 minutes. Staff is great, providing very helpful information and very friendly. Breakfast was very good and although the hotel was full, they had enough space to sit - even at peak time.
1. Poorly located with a bad shuttle service: Even our toddlers had to pay. Worse, we waited more than 20 minutes for the shuttle we booked in advance for an exact time. I had to call the hotel. They told me that they can't say when the driver will come (maybe in 10 minutes) because he was picking up someone else elsewhere. A taxi wouldn't have been more expensive than the shuttle. 2. Cleaning lady entered our room while we were in (and before check out time): She came in (around 11 AM, check-out time 12 AM) and didn't left spontaneously so I had to interrupt breastfeeding and tell her that we were checking out the same day. Moreover, she closed the connecting door so that we had no access to the other room any more to check if we hadn't forgot anything. 3. Very poor city map (you can't read the street names). I got a real map for free at a cheap hostel where I asked the way. 4. Poorly equipped playground area: It's great that they have an area for kids but only Kapla is not enough. It is quite far away from the restaurant so it is difficult to survey the kids. 5. Rooms: For a four star hotel they are quite small, the walls are not very nice, low budget toilets, fan didn't turn off Breakfast: They seated us at a table with low fabric armchairs which were not the right choice for our two-years-old kids. We had to get a child highchair on our own. Positive to mention: Outside playground, table-tennis table, indoor table football. The dishes at the restaurant were quite good.
We stayed for 1 night for a weekend visit, 2 adults and 2 children. The room was basic but comfortable and clean. The staff were lovely, very friendly and welcoming, they helped make our first visit to the Netherlands a very positive one. There is a free shuttle bus from the hotel to the city which was great. Maastricht itself is a lovely city to visit. We walked back, with 2 young children it took us about 30 minutes so would probably be less for just adults. It was a pleasant walk through a nice area so no problem for us. If you don’t want to walk the hotel have special rates with a local taxi firm. Breakfast was nice, with plenty of choice available. I would recommend this hotel.
Usual high standard Novotel. Spacious comfortable bedrooms with plentiful storage, surface space, excellent shower, safe, satellite tv etc. Novotel's provision of only paper cups and stirrers continues to irritate, Very helpful reception, Adequate breakfast. Location not great, residential area, 30 mins walk to city. Hotel provides excellent free hourly shuttle bus until 18.00 but only in one direction. Hotel has Euro 9.50 special taxi deal otherwise it's about Euro 10 to station, Euro 12.50 to city centre. If driving I'd have no hesitation in recommending, maybe find a more central location for public transport.
