Spontanous weekend at Maastricht; not many hotelrooms available any more but hey! Hotel l'Empereur still has a room to let. Not exactly a bargain, but then again, this is a classy hotel isn't it? Well.... it isn't. Starting with getting there; thanks to the building activities in front of the hotel both navigation systems we had aboard screwed up. Would have been nice to bring this to our attention while/after booking the room..... As would be to mention the blind wall that would become our view for the next days, the tiny size of the room or the noisy airco's outside when you open the window. And then there was the breakfast; please don't even try the orange juice. It comes straight from the sink after washing last evenings plates. Nothing to do with oranges anyway. A coffee machine was out of order resulting in a ten minute waiting line for coffee, they ran out out of bread, buns and jelly and clearing tables was apparently not in the staffs job description... And then there's of course the iniviteble frontdesk clown; well... they got one. Complete with professional crocadile 'I-smile-but-I-really-don't-give-a-sh.t" smile on her face. Positive experience: Housekeeping (put them at the front desk!). And the hotel is pretty close to the centre and connected to it by a nice shopping street. My advice: train or replace your staff, use fresh products instead of this dilluted stuff and inform your guests better to prevent disappointments.
This is a great hotel we traveled there for the concert , and booked it a s a complete package , our room was on the 2 floor and was big and comfortable well cleaned and comfortable bed the hotel is central and just opposite railway station , has limited parking but is expensive for parking overall medium value , only off was we had a package meal which was not great , but breakfast was great
We stayed as part of a Andre Rieu package and naturally expected and was supplied with a very good stay at this venue which was comfortable with lovely meals, particularly the Banquet before a performance. We enjoyed the stay and were impressed with the comfort of the room. However, it should be said that the decor looked a bit tired in places and the Reception Area looked more like a Station waiting room then a luxury Hotel. We will hopefully return and stay in this fine Hotel and explore a very interesting Town which has so much to offer, not just the excellent Andre Rieu concerts/
A Christmas gift from my family brought me to this wonderful city. The hotel was beside a" not noisy " station and only 10 minutes pleasant walk to city centre. I just loved the hotel...bright, airy, modern, comfortable and really lovely food. Staff most helpful and although very busy as Andre Rieu concerts were in full swing for 2 weeks, they always had time for my queries or requests. The weather was warm and sunny and the waterways with their busy stream of touring and commercial boats were a very pleasant place to sit for a coffee and waffle or ice cream. There was a lovely variety of shops and boutiques and lots of restaurants to suit every nationality and pocket. My lasting impression will be all the bicycles everywhere.........hundreds of them all going to work or about their business.......every type, size and colour. They ruled the streets for sure. The famous square was taken over by the stage, cameras , tv crews, waffle and coffee stands. People sat around the outside of the square enjoying tasty meals in the sunshine......I will definitely do my best to return to this lovely place......and stay longer next time. Ps. Don,t forget to visit the fantastic outdoor market on Fridays for fruit, veg, flowers , clothes and anything else you might want.......a must before you go home.
We booked this hotel as part of a package with Andre Rieu Travel. The hotel is located a minute walk from the train station, just opposite the station and 12-15 minutes walk from the city center where the concert took place. The staff were very welcoming and very friendly. Breakfast was very good. Rooms are big and there's also a little sitting area in the room. The bathroom is big with a bath! A/C is very good and very quiet. Ask for the back rooms. We enjoyed it very much. didn't use the pool.
Other reviews say it all. Could be going with some refurbishment in the bedrooms although the rooms are clean, serviceable and comfortable. Surprisingly quiet despite the works ongoing in the road at the station. We chose it for its proximity to the train station where the KLM transfer bus drops off and picks up for Schiphol. It was also a pleasant walk into town. Bed was soft but very comfy. Breakfast was ok with the exception of the incredibly crispy incinerated bacon one morning! The special Andre Rieu buffet dinner was fine - food was hot, reasonable selection and pleasant service in a lovely room - with an Andre Rieu DVD showing on a big screen. The staff were all helpful, friendly and smiling throughout our stay.
We stayed here for the Andre Rieu concert. Very convenient to train station, but a 20 minute walk to the city center. Older hotel with a bit of wear, but clean and welcoming. Excellent service from all at front desk. Very good breakfast buffet as part of our Rieu package, but the dinner was horrible.
This hotel was booked through Andre Rieu Travel as part of a package. On the internet, the hotel appeared to be of a very good (high) standard. Well situated, opposite the Railway station and within walking distance of the city centre. There is secure, underground parking on site, 18 Euros 50 cents per day. The rooms were of a good size but not of the standard we expected having viewed it on their website. Air conditioning was good, TV and a fridge? not a mini bar, as it was empty. I wasn't keen on the memory foam beds, too soft for me and hot. The bathroom was dated, not large with a bath that had a shower rail a third of the way down, not at the end of the bath (strange). The shower was either very hot, or cold, difficult to adjust, bath was slippery, no bath mat. The lighting could have been much better, only one of the two rooms we had, contained a hair dryer. The basin was set so far away from the edge of the top, you had to lean forward at an awkward angle to reach the tap which was so small, I barely managed to get my hands under it to wash them! The corridors are in need of a re-vamp, it is an old hotel and now showing its age. Staff in the reception were pleasant, the sherbet sweets were lovely. Breakfast time was chaotic, overcrowded and undermanned, not enough places to accommodate the number of guests. We found a table that had not been cleared and waited 10 minutes for someone to clear away the previous occupiers breakfast dishes. A cursory flick with a damp cloth and new place settings were put in place by staff who looked as if they didn't want to be there. A good choice of pastries, fruit, meats and cheeses, along with hot food in bain marie's (help yourself), omellete, bacon (barely cooked), sausages (inedible, looked uncooked). Coffee machine, self service, white, or black, the bread was about 8 metres away from the toaster, at least we walked some of the breakfast off before leaving, saved going to the sauna. The hotel looks better on the net than it does in reallity, perhaps it was because we booked as part of a package, that the "Deluxe" rooms we were given may not have been the best on offer. Nevertheless, I was disappointed because my exepctations were higher than the end result. I cannot fault the location, the area is awash with superb eateries, bars and shops. I would go back to Maastricht in a heartbeat but sadly, to a different hotel.
Unfortunately our 2nd night the a la carte menu gave way to a set menu with very little choice. I realise this was due to the buffet for Andre Rieu revellers, which I had enjoyed the night before, but all the time we have been going (approximately 10 years, this has never happened before and we very disappointed. Otherwise our stay there was up to its usual standard after a mixup with the booking due to someone altering our booking without our approval and we were put into a standard room instead of the suite we had paid for. Petra Jacobs the duty manager was extremely helpful and found out that the booking had been altered by an intermediary between the hotel and booking.com. We were then given the room we had booked and we thoroughly enjoyed the stay we are used to at this hotel. A very big thank you to Petra and her reception staff for sorting out our problem.
We booked this hotel through Andre Rieu Travel in October 2016 for 3 nights stay- from that booking website it seemed to be the best hotel on offer. It was expensive. The location is great and the staff were very friendly, helpful and cheerful. The beds were very comfortable. The hotel needs some renovation, specially the bathrooms. Shower over the bath with nylon shower curtain that sticks to you the bottom of bath is narrow and it is difficult to turn around without feeling unbalanced / falling over. The lighting in the bathroom was inadequate. The cheap disposable plastic glasses not changed during our stay The door security pass key cards were problematic, they required changing and resetting twice daily. ( We kept them isolated from other electronic devices). The Buffet breakfast was excellent with a huge choice. Great location opposite the railway station.
