No doubt the originality of this hotel where everything is done as and old primary school, but sometimes this is not in favour of comfort. However the hotel is clean and well located, the room is small and price little higher for the given services.
Very well located in the old neighborhood of Lyon. Just across the bridge of the fashionable presqu ile. The old fashioned "school" environment is a plus. Very good bakery for breakfast. Bus stop for Place Bellecour just in front.
The hotel is well positioned in the old city, its charm of an old school environment makes it very cosy. Our room was on the street and the noise was not a problem due to the double glazing. Victoria at the front desk is an exceptional employee, her charm, knowledge and grace while assisting a never ending stream of guests is to be highly commended. Some rooms are very small and if you are staying longer than one night I would recommend paying for a larger room. The roof top terrace is a well thought out area. The breakfast is typical European and very freash.
Pretty nice and original hotel very well located in the "old city center". Clean and large rooms. The breakfast is fantastic and located in a old and vintage classroom. People at the reception are very nice and keen to answer to your questions on the city
This hotel is in a great location near vieux Lyon and the best ice cream shop in town! The rooms are tiny - even post graduate is cramped. The bathrooms are a bit dysfunctional a sinks don't drain away and shower over bath really hand held! Breakfasts are good though - but not greT value for money.
This hotel is in the center of the city of Lyon which gives you access to an incredible number of restaurants and cafes. Our room had an amazing view of the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière. There is secured parking in the hotel (uses a car left - very cool) for 20 euros a day. The room was a little small but what can you expect in these older buildings. The college motif was fun. They have a tasty petit déjeuner.
If you are looking for a hotel that is extremely basic with no frills and well placed for the city then The College Hotel is clean and comfortable. The rooms however are very small, spartan and adhere to their college dormitory theme a little to much meaning that as a customer there is no sense of luxury whatsoever provided by the hotel. So overall the hotel despite being more than adequate left my family feeling that it was style over substance. The parking situation didn't work for us either because we didn't pre-book parking (when did you ever have to do that with a hotel) so we had to park in a local NCP equivalent, for the duration of our stay despite the booking form on the website we reserved the hotel from advertising that there is parking. OK but I suspect you can find better hotels in Lyon for similar prices.
From the minute you step into your spartan room you can imagine this being a dormitory for college goers of another era. The wardrobes are lockers, old desk and chair are your furniture. Some school books are in the shelves. Bedside tables consist of two concrete blocks. Photos of students adorn walls in hallways. But a few modern features have crept into the space with its black Japanned flooring. Air conditioning in the room and comfortable queen sized bed, remote tv and large bathroom would not have been part of a student's comforts. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Good English is spoken if your French is poor like mine. The location of the hotel couldn't be better. You can walk to everything. There is car accommodation onsite but this is an additional cost. I would definitely stay here again.
This hotel is in a good location and an excellent base for exploring the city. There are restaurants nearby for lunch, dinner or breakfast in a lovely historic setting. The hotel itself has some great design features that really bring back some old school memories. Parking was interesting (a car lift!) but spaces were adequate to fit a large vehicle. The roof terrace was also a good feature on a warm evening. Staff were also welcoming. We would certainly come back here.
The hotel is perfect for exploring the old town and the Fourvière area. The college interiors are fun. We had one of the smallest rooms, but it was perfectly comfortable. Breakfast is OK but slightly expensive. We tried it once, but then opted to go out and pick up a coffee and croissant in one of the many nearby cafés. The reception team were generally friendly, although not always easy to find. At least one of them seemed to spend much of his time standing outside on the pavement, but once we had worked out where to find him he was helpful. Wi-fi connection was a bit variable. Having water bottles in the fridges on each floor is a nice touch. We read a review saying there were free soft drinks in the fridges, but I think that time has passed.
