Red Caboose Motel

I've been coming to this hotel since I was a child 40 years ago. It's a great place for train buffs and it seems to be in healthier shape now, under new ownership, than it was when I last visited three years ago. The double bed in our caboose was not especially comfortable but the kids loved the bunk beds in the caboose cupola. One weird, disapointing oversight: We stayed two nights and our room was not made up after our first night as it should have been even though we put out the "make up the room" sign.

For the money they charge they could've at least renovated the rooms from the inside and make it more comfortable to stay . The area is awesome but as far as the stay in the motel is horrible .

Sleep in a caboose! Rooms are small but nice. Nothing extravagant but everything worked fine. Food at the casey Jones restaurant is very good and reasonably priced. Free petting zoo and small playground for the kids.

My twin 4 year olds love trains. We stayed the night at the Red Caboose Hotel and then spent the following day at the Strasburg Railroad and the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum. It was a major hit for the boys and everything was so close and convenient. The caboose rooms were a little odd, but that was to be expected. The bathrooms were tiny and the shower head was very low. Light switches were in odd places and there was some creaking when you walked around certain areas. It's not the lap of luxury, so don't expect that. But it was clean and the beds/sheets were very clean and fresh. It was great for a one night stay. The pictures on their website accurately depicted the room we stayed in. I also have to add that the other onsite amenities were very nice. They showed a movie in the barn at 7:30pm every night, the kids LOVED the playground (there were actually multiple of them), there was a free petting zoo, you could take a horse and buggy ride from the parking lot (for a charge) and the Red Caboose restaurant was convenient and tasty for breakfast. The gift shop and toy train garden was also nice. There were some areas that were currently "being improved", but this didn't add any inconvenience to our stay.

lots to do and see in the area , wish I had time to stay a few more days

In general, hotel needs some cosmetic upkeep. Outside condition doesn’t match in the inside, meaning outside looks terrible with rust and peeling pain, compared to the clean and modernized interior. Inside was clean and updated with nice flat screen TVs, with the exception of the bed/bedding. While clean, the bedding was definitely old, and the bed was saggy. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

Was expecting a fun experience but the caboose we stayed in was sad. Hope that they paint and repair the unit soon.

Enjoyed staying at this location instead of some run-of-the-mill type chain place. Unique and the staff was very friendly. Would definitely go back again.

It's a caboose. not the Hilton. Excellent if that's what you're looking for. Stayed there before, will stay there again. New owners are doing a fine job.

Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was tight but somewhat expected. Stayed in the baggage Car which I thought was going to be all ours but they crammed 2 seperate rooms into it. You could hear and smell everything in the other room including them smoking inside and outside of it. Couldn’t sleep not only bc the beds were uncomfortable but because the smell of smoke was overwhelming. Rotted window sill and wall with mold under it. Requested hair dryer and was given one that didn’t even blow hot air. Outlets coming out of walls and no outlet safety covers, especially the ones in bunk bed area. Was ok to tolerate for the one night because the kids were excited about it, but we checked in after dark so most issues weren’t noticed till it was to late to cancel and go elsewhere. You can see the entire car is rotting from the outside. Not worth the price or novelty. Much better for less out there and kids can still go see trains right next door at the museums.

We are too old for this type of hotel. We need more luxury. It seems great for families with children. Playgrounds, lookout tower, petting zoo, movies in the barn, and buggy rides. The staff were great. The restaurant was fine. The room was small and uncomfortable.

A fun experience to be able to stay in a caboose. The caboose was very clean, updated, it had a tv, refrigerator and working air conditioning! It was very clean and updated. The staff was excellent, very friendly. This place felt like a family friendly camping experience. If I lived in the area, I would take my family there for the week-end just for fun. Kid movies in the barn, buggy rides available, and friendly cats that roam the area. A Silo outlook, campfire, and swing set area are available also. We enjoyed a good breakfast in a dining car in the morning. Snacks could be boughten in the office or vending machines. I highly recommend this place for a family visit.

The kids loved the caboose. The beds were really comfortable. The shower was a little small but effective. Movie night in the barn was great. Buggy rides on site were really convenient. The restaurant food was great even though service was a little slow. Everyone was very friendly. Would go again

Based on the shabby outside appearance of some of the cars, we weren't expecting much. However the room was cozy, had a refrigerator and microwave, a working TV, wifi, and hot running water. The bed was decently comfortable, and our room had a cute balcony in the trees (tho not all do). The restaurant has good food, and there are lots of activities for kids.

Quaint and cozy. A fun place to stay that is better than a boring motel room. On site dinning car served a great breakfast.

You go here for the experience. They're cabooses, not the Marriott. Things are a little cramped, but everything works. WiFi is excellent. If you're not into railroading this place might not be for you, but it was heaven for me!
