There were good things about my three night stay at the Hotel Presidente. I was upgraded to a small suite with a seating area including fridge, sofa, armchairs and desk, a separate toilet, double bedroom and a bathroom. The suite had a great view over the historic centre including the major landmark of the San Francisco monastery. The suite had very good air conditioning which was helpful as it was warm during the day and cold at night. The bedroom was comfortable with lots of wardrobe space and a safe. The wifi was good and we received vouchers for a complimentary drink when we checked in. The hotel has a small heated pool and the location is excellent, with lots of nearby shops, bars, restaurants etc and close to major tourist sites like the Witches' Market, Plaza Murillo etc. The shower in the room was excellent and we got free mineral water. The views from the restaurant are really good and you can take in the whole city. If extreme sports are your thing you can rappel down the side of the hotel or just take in the view from where people set off. These plus points though were offset by lots of bad and ugly points which in my opinion means that there is no way that this hotel is of an international five star standard. There was no international TV in the room and the lighting in the suite we had was dim making the rooms gloomy. The bathroom looked old and the hotel as a whole feels very tired, it's style is late 70's/ early 80's making it have a dated atmosphere. Because the hotel is in the heart of the downtown area the location makes it very noisy with traffic and despite being on a high up floor we could still hear it which may annoy light sleepers. The bathroom toiletries were in wall dispensers which alluded to their quality. The reception staff during the day and the housekeeping maids were pleasant but we found the other staff miserable and off hand, especially in the bar and the night porter when we checked out. Worst of all during our stay was the breakfast. It was woeful. There was an egg station which was not staffed while we were there so no chance of fried eggs or an omelette. The range of food and the quality was poor. The waiters did their best to hide from guests by hanging out in the back and avoiding anyone. They didn't even serve coffee or clear tables. The only time I saw them near guests was to put the volume up on the blaring TV in the dining room after a guest had turned it down, probably to try and have a conversation. We also asked reception for the morning we checked out to have a boxed breakfast as we were checking out very early for an early flight. Firstly we were told this would cost $20. I told them that I didn't see why I had to pay as the room rate included breakfast. I was then told it was free and we would receive boxed breakfasts when we left, we just had to collect them from the dining room prior to departure. Unsurprisingly when we went to do so there was no breakfasts and all the lights were off in the dining room. The grumpy night porter who checked us out had no knowledge of them so I gave up. La Paz is a wonderful city and it has bags of potential. I have no doubt it will grow and take off as a tourist destination but the Hotel Presidente needs to up its customer service and decor to still be considered a good hotel by international standards.
This is supposed to be one of the nicer hotels in downtown La Paz. The suite we stayed in was clean and comfortable, except at times it got hot - we had to request portable fans since it was on the 11th floor. It is close to everything downtown. The hotel restaurant is nice and has American food.
We stayed two nights here and found our room spacious and clean, the staff welcoming and very helpful. Tired after a slow drive from Copacabana due to roadworks we ate dinner in the casual mezzanine restaurant and enjoyed tasty meals and good service. The breakfast buffet choice was good, especially the omelet made on request. The reception manager was especially helpful booking a game of golf for us and arranging the taxi. We found the location very central to walk to the major city sites, artisan markets and shopping arcades. While the shower over bath is dated we loved the art deco feel of our room and the space to spread out. Also, the wifi in the room was a good speed. In all we were very happy with our hotel choice for La Paz.
We stayed here because we had a flight delay. Most of BOA staff seemed to stay there. The rooms was clean and big. Tv has sat channels, wifi available and service was good. Breakfast was buffet style, it had all that was needed. Good views and very well located in the center of the city. Stayed high up and the view was nice. Overall a good experience
Ask for John Paul (Juan Pablo) at the front desk. He will look after you like family .A true Gentlemen. There is nothing he does not know about La Paz. Great stay .Hotel Presidente and Inday tours Bolivia Marcelo ( Tigre ) are number 1 in Bolivia. You want Bolivia, go with the best. AGA (Australia)
We stayed only one night and wanted to enjoy a lunch in their fine restaurant with a great city view BUT later, after we checked out, and left the hotel, my roommate found out that his money (USD 600 and EUR 200) disappeared from his bag which he always locked but forgot during that lunch. Though we have had no hard evidence, it was the only moment it could have happened and we can only suspect that the waiters could have watched us ready to warn the thief in case some of us decided to leave the restaurant for our room. Still lacking any hard evidence, we have now no doubts as neither anybody from the hotel, nor its manager has responded to our complaint and done absolutely nothing to investigate the whole thing. We sent two complaints and waited for a month but got no reply at all. Please, be careful as there is a thief, or more likely an organized group of thieves in this 5 star hotel.
This is the third time I have stayed at Hotel Presidente in LaPaz. Hotel is very clean and nice – with good well-appointed rooms - friendly staff – very conveniently located. Beds are very nice and comfortable. Breakfast buffet is fantastic, with lots of fresh food options. Problems are (1) that that air conditioning just doesn’t work – no matter what you do or who you call, you can never get the room cool. (2) Strongly suggest that you get a room on the back side of the hotel – as rooms on the front get a lot of street noise all night long. Never can understand why there is so much noise on the streets in the middle of the night.
My husband and I stayed there for 4 days, the rooms were very comfortable, and we had space for all our clothes and suitcases. We stayed a couple of nights with relatives and at night and early morning was very cold every day but in the Hotel Presidente, the rooms are very nice and warm, very clean and the staff are very friendly. At breakfast time they have fresh fruits from Bolivia, fruits you can find just if you go to the market by yourself, like cactus fruits, lujma, and others. The traditional breakfast in Bolivia is pretty much a piece of bread with butter and tea or coffee, so when you see other pastries like croissant it might not be like you expect, they try to make as much as they can to make you feel at home offering a variety of pastries, my husband really liked the cinnamon bread, some of the pastries very very tasty. I lived in La Paz my childhood and for us local people this is the best hotel you can recommend so after many year abroad, we decided to stay there, though it was built before the mobile phone era, so we had to look for a plug around the room. It might get a bit noise during the day as is located in the center of the city, has very good access to go anywhere around the city, like Museums in Calle Jaen, Plaza Murillo and the oldest church San Fransisco among other attractions. - Comfortable rooms and warm - Great View - Clean - Friendly staff - Nice restaurant - Great breakfast - They speak English
we stayed here for 3 days. The hotel is well located and has great views of La Paz. The rooms are large but are really old in look and feel. the bathrooms are the same. We were on level 10 and the wifi was very poor. i complained to the front desk but didnt help. All 3 days it was a problem. The wifi in the resturants and lobby works fine but its very inconvenient to go there for wifi. Given i didnt have data services provided by my mobile provider in Bolivia , wifi was critical and i couldnt get that. Was dissapointing!! The resturants are good with decent food.Very few of the staff speak english other than the ones at the front desk so it is a problem when you need to call for room service.
We have been for 3 nights in this old fashion hotel, very good location, large rooms, friendly service, helpfull staff. The breakfest is ok, the coffee imposible to drink. Nice restaurant with beautiful view of the city
