We stayed at a number of quality hotels on our trip through Brazil and Bolivia and this property was clearly the best. This hotel definitely deserves the great reviews and ratings it has received on the various hotel websites. Landing in La Paz is not easy. The altitude of 13,000 feet at the airport hits you almost immediately. After taking an airport cab to the hotel (about 40-60 minutes away), we arrived at the hotel located in the Zona Sur neighborhood of the city which is about 2,000 feet lower than the airport and almost 1000 feet lower than the city center. While the hotel is located away from the city center (about 40-60 minute taxi cab ride away depending on the traffic), it is much lower and therefore a bit better for those susceptible to altitude sickness. And the neighborhood is much nicer, cleaner and far more upscale than most of the city. The hotel ensures its guests comfort and safety. They even have oxygen tanks near the elevator for those with altitude sickness. A pharmacy is across the street which sells Sorochi tablets for altitude sickness. And as you enter the lobby of the hotel, there is always a pot of hot water available for making Mate de coca, a drink traditionally used to address altitude sickness. And for those still a bit dizzy and tired, the hotel offers some great massages downstairs near the pool and jacuzzi. The hotel is just 3 short blocks away from the green station of the newly installed Teleferico, an 11 color coded system of cable cars that transport people above the city. The views are absolutely specatular, particularly at night. The system is easy to use. Payment is made per line at any station. It is cheap, safe and clean. We took a scenic ride around the city and it took us about 2-3 hours which included stops to eat and drink at the stations along the way. Although there are not many restaurants nearby, the hotel has a very good restaurant which provides buffet breakfasts for guests. We noticed at night that prominent locals frequent the restaurant for dinner where local dishes including llama (preferred cooked well done) and trucha (local trout with meat like salmon) are served. We liked both. The service is five star. No question about it. The desk clerk, Josue, is an example of the fine personnel that this organization has hired and trained. Professional, caring and above all friendly, they made our stay on our 2 week tour of this corner of South America a real pleasure.
We stayed here over my birthday which was initially supposed to be just 2 nights, and were treated like royalty from the minute we walked in. The owner himself gave us a drink on the house and a box of chocolates on my birthday morning. Every member of staff is lovely but Stephanie on reception, really made our stay one to remember. I got sick when we were there and she went above and beyond to make sure I got the care I needed, and translated everything the doctors said. She was always the friendliest face and made us not want to leave! Couldn’t recommend this hotel enough, from the lovely rooms, to the amazing staff, to the delicious food, it was fab in every way! Thank you for everything. Liv and Niall x
I had a very good experience staying at Camino Real Suites! Service is 100% recommended. Personnel willing to help you when needed. Breakfast was served on time and had a variety of food. Room was perfectly clean!
Every time I visit La Paz, Bolivia, this is where I stay -- hands down the best hotel experience. The food is great, and the service exceptional. If you are new to La Paz, the restaurant crew will also suggest that you drink 'mate de coca' (and that you chew on the leaves) to help with altitude sickness. Just in front of the Hotel is a little mall where you can purchase snacks, drinks, soap, food, etc.
The facility is modern and clean, but what stood out for me was the staff. They went out of their way to make our stay a pleasant experience. From parking a car that wouldn’t fit into the garage due to the roof rack to arranging transport to the airport they handled all our requests with ease. It was a great experience.
Nice large rooms with great wifi and great service from the staff, especially from Alfredo. Breakfast has a wide varity of delicious things to eat. I will surely book here when I come back for a business trip.
The Camino Real Suites Hotel in La Paz Bolivia (no relation to the Camino Real Hotel group in Mexico) is a pleasant stay. The hotel is well run. The staff is friendly and helpful. the rooms are comfortable. The beds are a bit hard but okay. The hotel location is great and the hotel restaurant food is actually very good. . My only negative is that the hotel makes the cheap mistake of not providing a free bottle of water in the room each day. International guests need bottled water in Bolivia and most 4-5 star hotels provide such. But for some unknown reasoning this hotel skimps and cuts corners in not doing such. .
Staff are fantastic, helpful and kind Food is delicious, complimentary breakfast was divine. Lots of good options for altitude sickness - try the delicious tomato soup. The service was above and beyond. I have stayed their twice, on business, and once was over a period that included my birthday. I came home to my hotel room to find a beautiful birthday cake and greeting for me in my room. Truly above and beyond. :)
Gorgeous rooms with a view and huge TV. The restaurant serves delicious breakfasts including an omelette station. Their steaks are great too. I would definitely recommend staying here while in La Paz.
Rooms are suites with a sleeping area, desk and sitting space with a couch. Restaurant has a salad bar that you can have for a fairly reasonable price. Salad bar is an offering for lunch or dinner. Nice indoor swimming pool and workout area.
