We had an amazing stay at this hotel. The quality of accommodation was like a 5 star hotel and the staff were kind , very helpful and exemplified the spirit of the hotel name. Staying at this hotel was revitalizing and the natural beauty around the property with a most beautiful zen garden was very calming. This hotel also offers a hearty Japanese style breakfast as well as a western option. Highly recommended.

The Gardens were absolutely stunning. The atmosphere was relaxing and calm. We stayed as a treat at the end of our holiday and it did not disappointment. Staying here was the best decision because we were surrounded by nature and the vibe of the hotel is very calm and peaceful. The breakfast was 10/10!! If you are into trail running and hiking, there is a very beautiful 10k trail up the mountain very near the hotel (about 5 minutes away walking). This hotel is definitely one of my highlights from Japan.

Such a beautiful and peaceful place to stay on the outskirts of Kyoto ... a hidden and perfect respite to escape the busy city action but still close enough to pop in and check out all the amazing places in town. The facilities, the meals, and the service were awesome, and we'd like to especially mention the wonderful manager who always made us feel special, Koichi Koike! Thank you for a 5-star experience and we are already looking forward to returning to your hotel. Highly highly recommended!

To start the staff is absolutely kind and hospitable. They really make you feel at home even if you’re 1000s of miles from it. Second, the actual hotel and scenery is out of a dream. An actual fairy tale! It made me fall in love with Japan even more. Third, everything was super clean and neat. And lastly, the complimentary items were just unbelievable! I will recommend anyone and everyone to this beautiful place. I will forever be grateful for everyone there!

Very relaxed stay. Short walk from station or book a taxi for a small fee if you have luggage. Ruriko-in temple and Mt Hiei cable car station is very close with lots of hiking and walking trails. The hotel was so comfortable, welcoming and had all the desired amenities. We used the sauna which was really lovely addition to our stay and enjoyed the hotel shop too. It was in a peaceful area and the staff were always on hand to answer any questions and offer refreshments. We had seen a couple of negative reviews for this property prior to staying but our experience was nothing short of exceptional. Looking forward to returning in the future.

We spent two weeks in Japan, staying at several hotels and Airbnbs, and Moksa quickly became our favorite. The hotel is set on a stunning garden, and the staff welcomed us with genuine warmth. Compared to other places we stayed, Moksa offered spacious rooms with bathrooms completely separate from the showers, plus adorable, comfortable loungewear to wear around the property. We also loved the sauna and contrast therapy sessions, which were excellent value. This is absolutely a place I’d recommend to anyone visiting Kyoto.

Beautiful Hotel outside of Kyoto

Beautiful hotel with very friendly staff. The location is a bit outside of Kyoto in a very beautiful and quiet surrounding. The rooms are very nice and I had a nice bathroom with a huge bathtub and also nice views of the beautiful garden. The only thing I didn't like was the breakfast and there was also no in-house dining in the evening

We enjoyed our stay here. It is a bit out of the way but great if you want a quieter location away from the busy city. The hotel garden was a real delight as was the private sauna. It was beautiful to walk along the river and see the trees on the mountain. We loved the Japanese breakfast, the samue clothes and sandals they supply. We ate dinner there one night and it was fine but not outstanding and the price was high for the small portions. It’s worth noting that there are very few affordable eating options walking distance from the hotel. There is a 7/11 with quick eats. And the best way to get there from the city is by taxi. We didn’t like that there were no hooks to hang towels on. And it was strange to not have hand soap in the toilet room to wash your hands properly. The hotel staff were so gracious and responsive. And we loved the daily inari treat, and being able to sit at the bar downstairs for complimentary drinks. A very luxurious hotel. Thank you!

We sayed in Moksa in september. Our shinkansen got significantly delayed, and my phone roaming stopped working, so I could not call and say we would arrive late for dinner. The staff were incredibly friendly, and were able to accomodate our dinner reservation. The food was delicious, the garden is a delight, and I wish we would have spent a few more days in this hotel. Loved it!

Me and my partner missed the shinkansen and the bus that was going to take us to the hotel, so we got even more behind our schedule of our check-in time. We told the staff beforehand and apologized, they were extremely understanding of our situation. When we got there, we were welcomed with warm smiles and helpful information of our accomodation and they even gave us some snacks after our long travel.

The hotel is in a picturesque area away from the main city surrounded by nature. The room was exquisite, the amenities were wonderful and the staff are so accommodating and pleasant. Probably the best hotel experience we’ve ever had. Would only recommend more transportation options to get into downtown Kyoto.
