Great service, friendly staff, great hotel but somewhat dated. Time to renovate.

The Hotel Okura Kobe is a superb hotel where I’ve stayed before and will stay again. The rooms are spacious – very spacious for Japan, extremely clean and the service is excellent. The breakfast is also excellent. There is a convenient shuttle bus that runs throughout the day from the Hotel to and from the main train station in Kobe – Sanomiya. That bus also goes to the Shinkansen station on weekends. The city of Kobe itself is beautiful – I typically stay in Kobe when vacationing in the Kansai Area (which includes Osaka and Kyoto). Highest recommendation.

Polite staff and clean environment. Pricey inside restaurants and no convenience store around.

The Hotel Okura Kobe is a superb hotel -- my favorite among the 4-Star Hotels in Kobe (I'm not aware of any 5-Star Hotels in Kobe except sometimes the La Suite is rated 5-Stars but I prefer the Okura). The Service, facility cleanliness and overall facility condition are top notch. I've stayed at the Okura Kobe many times before -- most recently I tried the breakfast buffet with the room and it was excellent. Overall, the Hotl Okura Kobe earns my highest recommendation.

Superb hotel with excellent service. Cleanliness was also top notch. Highly recommend the Hotel Okura Kobe.

I’ve stayed at the Hotel Okura Kobe 7-8 times over the past 12 years as I find Kobe a delightful basing point to take vacations, relax and enjoy the Kansai area – which includes Kyoto and Osaka. On each occasion I’ve found the service to be superb and the room immaculate. While I cannot say I’ve stayed at all of what might be considered the nicest hotels in Kobe, I have stayed at the Meriken Park Oriental, Crowne Plaza ANA Kobe (adjacent to the Kobe Shinkansen Station), and the Hotel Crown Palais Kobe. Each of those hotels are nice but I prefer the Hotel Okura based on room condition (in particular condition of the carpets in the rooms), overall cleanliness and service. In saying my intent is to explain why I find the Okura preferable and not to deprecate the other fine hotels. In addition, in my opinion, the general cleanliness and service standards at Japanese hotels are very high to start with so visitors from outside Japan will likely find any of these hotels to rate highly in those regards. I note the only other Orbitz review of the Kobe Okura as of 13 April characterizes it as “showing its age.” While hotels reviews are obviously subjective, I disagree and can only suggest readers ask “showing its age” relative to what. While there may be more modern top notch hotels in Tokyo, Osaka, Singapore and Hong Kong, for example, I seriously question how much nicer they are and strongly suspect one will pay at least $100 more per night (assuming reservations are made at

Nice views of harbour and city but hotel is showing its age as not much else can match the style of its location in Kobe.
