We have been here many times. it has always been excellent. However we have been hearing it has gone down hill. And that is true. Food mediocre. presentation just average. Waitress seemed to be marking time. not engaged in our experience
My family and I dined here two days ago. The restaurant is located on a Sunset Key, a former naval storage depot that was converted into a private island with multi-million dollar homes. You must take the island’s residents’ ferry to get there. The restaurant is lovely, but a bit stuffy due to the wealthy clientele. The food was delicious but very expensive. I had the scallops which were very tasty. Service was superb. A unique experience, but I wouldn’t go back as there are plenty of other fine dining, less pretentious and expensive restaurants on Key West.
This is an exclusive island off of Key West...accessed by boat/plane only...the resort is mixed w/individual cottages&private multi million dollar homes. We stayed 3 nights and didnt want to leave!Your greeted off the boat by concierge&given a private tour as your taken to your cottage. We had an ocean front, face Key West..the room was super clean&decorated traditionally... not like most hotels w/your average home depot trendy updates! It was if we were the only guests on the island every time we ordered room service or housekeeping, they were there w/in minutes&every staff had a smile&was eager to help!We have been visiting KW since the 1990's&this was our first time at SK..we typically stay at Little Palm Island...its very quick&easy to get on/off by boat to KW for the fun&partying...then you come back to SK...for pure peace&quiet&(5)star treatment!Dont let the $$ discourage you...its worth it!! We cant wait to go back♡♡
Great place for a relaxing holiday. Gorgeous and very cosy cottages. However, very disappointing cleaning service for the price you pay ( beds made and cottage tidied up at 4.30/ 5.00 pm every day). The response we had when complained was that this is not unusual and encouraged us write it in our review..
Start with the good - island is lovely, sunset key itself is very pretty and the property is well maintained and beautiful. The staff were quite nice when approached and engaged directly. Unfortunately, the issues we ran into were way too many for a property of this price and caliber, so overall I felt disappointed - particularly as there was little to no outreach, follow up or attempt at service recovery. The biggest issue was that the air conditioning flat out did not work adequately in the front room. It gave out a little bit of cool air but it was about 10-15 degrees cooler in the back rooms. 4-5 people came to check it and the impressions ranged from not enough freon to "nothing wrong". We were told it was probably the room getting hot (though the shades were down and it was clearly not putting out cold air). Multiple phone calls and service people in the cottage was disruptive and unfortunate and we never got a real resolution. We were offered to change cottages the afternoon before we left, which seemed to be a bigger hassle than it was worth. The fixtures were falling off the shower in the main bathroom (could not change from bath to shower without nearly pulling the fixture off the wall). Nothing was done to address this and so I ended up using the shower in the other bedroom. The hot water ran out after about a 7 minute shower. Again, nothing done to address this. TV channels did not reliably work (lots of scrambled signal and cutting out). The smaller issues: our cottage had low end and/or worn out fixtures and features. We could see the dazzling and lovely kitchens in other cottages and the aging appliances in ours were just not nice to look at and did not seem to belong in such a pricy cottage. Had to call and leave messages with concierge as there was often not a person to answer the phone. Had to leave multiple messages to get some simple tasks completed (additional pillows). No one met us or took our luggage from the margaritaville resort, and due to not knowing where to go we missed the initial ferry and had to wait 30 minutes for the next one in the heat. We enjoyed aspects of our stay but for the price you really expect something superior, and because of the above my expectations were not met nor were adequate attempts made to try to remediate.
Updated Review; am impressed. I spoke with resort management about this issues and they were very responsive. Bad: Housekeeping & restaurant service; ludicrous resort fee; wine was stale; early morning mowing & leaf blowing When HK knocked, we asked her to come back in a bit. Left shortly thereafter for 90 min, room wasn’t done when we returned. Called to request 1:15 pm cleaning since we have lunch reserved at resort restaurant. Returned to room 2:45, HK was in-process. Waited a very long time for waiter to come to take our order, had to ask Maitre’D to send someone. Wine had clearly been opened 2 or 3 days ago. Resort fee of $50 per night on top of stated rates - to cover items like beach & pool chairs and nightly turn down service that should be included in already high-priced accommodations. Here for Fantasy Fest - chose location for its proximity to action while being separated by water so it’d be quiet. Went to bed 2:30am and awakened 9:30am by noisy riding mower followed by leaf blower. Noise continued for 3 solid hours. Resort should adjust landscaping schedule during FF to afternoon servicing. Update: front desk said not possible to change contracted hours Good: Excellent food in Lattitudes Restaurant and quick replacement of old wine with freshly opened one; extremely punctual ferry service on lovely vessel; beautiful grounds and pool area; friendly staff; spacious 2 bedroom cottages with individual thermostats in each room; delightful treats like hourly poolside snacks, ice cream cart each afternoon
We have been fortunate enough to have stayed at The Sunset Key Cottages several times and it always has been a wonderful experience. The cottages are beautiful and clean. The Latitudes Restaurant and Flippers Pool Bar offer excellent food and drinks and the views are stunning. A quiet and beautiful retreat from Key West while only a 5 minute ferry ride away. The best of both worlds. A special shout out to Alex who delivers the room service to the cottages. He is an ambassador for the entire resort, always providing thoughtful and top notch service. He always remembers us from past visits and goes out of his way to make us very very welcome and appreciated!
Upon arriving at the Margaritaville we told the recptionist we was at the Sunset cottages. After 30 mins being told to wait, I asked again and seemed the receptionist hadn’t started the process for our bags so we started again. Arriving the receptionist was lovely and so helpful. Our cottage was lovely. On the beach. Gorgeous setting... that is why you pay so much but is worth it. We stayed for 4 days. We had out 2,3,11&14 year olds. So the sand was pretty messy at times. I noticed on day one that the cleaners dont clean the sand but luckily they supplied a vacuum so I vacuumed every day (not paying $3500 for 3 nights I would expect.) Another day went by and the cleaner didn’t change our towels in our main bathroom. At this point I was at the point of why should I tip cleaners that I don’t feel are up to scratch? Also had to turn down our sofabed on the 2nd day too. So the next bit I don’t know if this was to do with the non-tipping or a general mistake but a disgusting one at that. My partner had a shower... reached for a CLEAN NEW towel.. opened to dry and it had POO on it!!! This was definitely meant to be clean as was folded all nice. I took this awful towel in a bag to the reception and told the lady. Also mentioned about the other cleaning problems. I was told the feedback would go to the Housekeeping manager and that was it. So you pay $3500 for 3 nights and nothing to try and correct your dismay at the service you received I think is pretty shocking. Beautiful setting but not alot is done to correct your feelings of disappountment Restaurant was outstanding though. Couldn’t fault at all
This is THE place to go if you are traveling to Key West! We traveled with our 4 young children and stayed in a private beachfront villa. The beach was beautiful, the room service food was excellent (a plus when you have 4 little kids along for the trip), the rooms were clean, comfortable, and well decorated. Our children loved the tennis, volleyball, and basketball courts. The island itself was SO serene, peaceful and relaxing! We felt safe there and let our 9 and 11 year old sons freely walk the island, which we DO NOT even allow at home. The resort ferry runs like clock work every 30 mins, and it is a beautiful 6 min ferry ride to the main land where all the bars, shops and museums are. We travel fairly often and this is by far our best family vacation yet! If you choose any other place in Key West, I would bet a lot it won’t compare to Sunset Key!! We cannot wait to return ;-) Ps- the spa is fantastic too!!
My family and I spent five days out of an eight day vacation at Sunset Key. This was our third visit and we enjoyed every minute. We just wished that Dorian did not cut the trip short. The accommodations were spotless and an oasis in that they were very quiet and private. The food was bountiful and delicious at both lunch and dinner. And the basket of croissants and muffins every morning with juice and water were a very nice touch Also the relocates Latitudes dining room was luxurious and very scenic! Lastly the staff were efficient, helpful and tried to resolve any issue we had. They were all professionals. We will be back!
