Only stopped for 4 days and it's a lovely clean and we'll run hotel . Breakfast was a very good variety. Cigar bar very chilled . Staff very helpful . Rooms all nice and clean . The hotel organised a trip to Soweto and transfer to train station for our next journey to Cape Town .

The hotel is well located and the rooms are decent, though I am not fond of their narrow corridors and confusing layout. I’ve stayed here before, but this time I was really disappointed. For the two nights I stayed here, there was absolutely no water in the shower/taps during the evening hours. I made umpteen calls to have it checked, but NO one showed up! Even the Duty manager assured me that someone will be there in a few minutes, and yet no one showed up!! On both evenings I couldn’t wait endlessly for it to be resolved as I had to go out for dinner. The Duty manager on the second day informed me that they were facing a ‘water issue’ with two of their wings and ‘some’ rooms were affected. It was only on the second night that they offered to change my room, but I couldn’t as I was heading out that night. What’s disappointing is that they knew about this issue and should not have given me this room to begin with! Also, they overall response to resolve this issue was really found lacking!

I went to Joes’burg to see Mandela Square, Soweto, Bishop Tutu House, Table Top and Victor Vessey. The service was nice at the hotel and very clean. Time is not exactly a priority in South Africa in fact there is time and then there’s ‘SA’ time. Lol The traffic movement and crowds remind me of New York City; busy busy busy. The weather / seasons is opposite to ours in the States. So the best times to travel to South Africa is between September through February.

I love this hotel as its like stepping back in time and is very cosy, the pool area is like a fairy glen with bird feeding stations and beautiful flowers. I cant stop taking photos here! The food in the bull run restaurant is great, good value and very fresh. only minus point is the room is a 1980s throwback and both times I stayed here this month (different rooms on different floors) the rooms both smelt musty and damp. I still got a good nights sleep though so all in all a great experience!

We stayed here for one night prior to beginning joining a tour group for a tour in South Africa. Centrally located in Sandton C.B.D. it is near to Nelson Mandela Square and the Mall. There is no doubt the rooms are dated but adequate for what was a one night stay. The hotel does have a certain character. front of house staff dealt with check in a professional way and informed us of their services and answered our questions. I did find it strange that the bar was a cigar lounge and very smokey when we ventured in there. Took our drinks outside into the lobby area. These days it is surely unusual to find smoking in bar areas. Maybe this is different in S.A. We chose to eat in the Bull Run Restaurant located within the hotel but under separate management. See separate review. Breakfast was good but we were amongst the first people in there due to our very early departure to start our travels. AuroraUK

We booked the family suite because we were travelling as a family (my husband, mum and 10 month old child). PROS 1) Shuttle service every 30 mins to the mall 2) Lovely view and 3) Friendly staff CONS 1) There was no one to welcome us when we got to the hotel and as a result had to carry the bags ourselves. 2) Check in was a long process. 3) Whilst waiting for our room to get ready, we decided to order lunch. I requested for mashed potato for my baby but was told the kitchen could not make it and advised I order from the restaurant which was only opening at 5pm so i had to resort to Plan B. 4)When we eventually got to our suite, the we found two bars of used soap in the soap holders. 5)The furniture appears dated. 6) Because I did not want my son to go to bed hungry, I went to the shops to purchase potatoes and oats but upon presenting these items for them to be prepared, I was told that hotel policy did not allow food from outside but the manager on duty kindly offered me some yummy mashed potato. 7) My son's breakfast was awful. I had requested that the oats and peanut butter be cooked together but when brought up to our room, it was in separate bowls. 8) We did not even have drinking water in the room. 8) The internet was very slow. Overall, the staff was friendly but I would not and will not stay there again.

While this hotel is not the most uptodate and to some extent needs complete renovation, the rooms have been partially renovated to afford gracious living. The hotel grounds make this hotel an exception as you are living in a large garden in the heart of Sandton only 7 mins driving from Nelson Square and Sandton Shopping Mall - best eats and shopping a stone's throw. It is good if you have a short stay and are paying yourself and do not want to spend mega bucks on stay.

The hotel overall felt a bit tired but the ease of access to Mandela Square for shops and restaurants was a big plus......a shuttle bus runs every half hour. The room was clean and, unexpectedly, was a 2 bedroom suite. The pool area was nice and friendly staff were on hand to bring drinks from the bar.

One of Johannesburg’s best known hotels from days gone by. Still has a great bar and a cozy feel to it. Getting tired now but renovations slowly ongoing. However, the front desk staff have always been an issue. Most seem like they simply don’t want to be there. Surly at best, simply apathetic at worst. Managers tend to hide away in the office and at busy times it can take ages to be seen. The large number of trainees indicates all isn’t well in that department. Shame, as first impressions last and other staff aren’t like that. Service terribly slow - it took numerous calls to get a shirt I had sent in returned and I am still waiting for a toothbrush I requested 2 days ago to be sent to my room..... all booked through the front desk.

Spent three nights here and was very pleased with the property. The room was very clean and while not super modern, it was tastefully decorated and provided all the amenities for a comfortable stay. I am pleased I added on the breakfast as it was very filling and offered a wide variety of foods. The courtesy shuttle is a real added bonus and came in very handy. I also appreciated the concierge service and willingness to help make our stay and visit of the area a positive experience. I wouldn't hesitate to use this hotel again and noticed that many airlines use it to accommodate their flight crews.
