Apollo Hotel3.0 out of 5.0

I stayed here on business in July and as I was only on the island it was ok for just one night. Compared to hotels like the Radisson Blu and the Royal Yacht the Apollo looks good value at this time of year for £124 including breakfast. However as someone who travels a lot for my business the hotel was very average for that money. My overall opinion of the hotel was a bit dated really. Everything was ok and worked properly and the Wifi signal was excellent however the room really needed updating but the bed was comfortable. Given the weather was very warm I think they need to consider aircon as I had to leave the window open all night and then was disturbed all night by the seagulls living in the carpark. The breakfast was definitely not one of the best I have experienced, cheap sausages always let the meal down. Ok stay but I would not rush back.
This hotel is like stepping back in time! It needs some heavy investment to bring it up to date! The food options are poor- they need to introduce some healthier options. The service from the staff is OK not great- no one smiles.....they all just seem to be going through the motions. The bedrooms seemed clean but again very outdated and the bathroom was poor and the bath leaked causing a puddle on the floor.
My room was shaby, dated utter deporable.Glass found in my bath, paint flaking around the windows, holes in bathroom and wardrobe door, drawers broken, leaking taps.Bar manager called me a RACIST,which I'm certainly not, rude staff.Would not recommend this hotel to anyone
We have stayed at this hotel for many years, Although only a three star hotel the service is very attentive. The breakfast buffet is superb and the best place to eat an evening meal (especially steak) is in the adjoining bar as the same steak in the restaurant is more expensive. Although the main restaurant is still good value for money, especially for Jersey. It is literally, only a five minute walk from the centre of St. Helier and only ten minutes from the front and bus station. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff even if the restaurant is closed the room service is good, albeit a limited menu. and the bar is usually open until the last person leaves.
Although I did not get to stay at this hotel due to my mother being taken ill. I was humbled by the understanding shown by the hotel and in particularly Beth. We will definitely re-book for the Apollo just on the basis of the excellent customer services shown by the team. Thanks once again for all you did for us.
Great welcome and customer service from all staff. Dinner was delicious and good value for money for the size of the portions. Rooms served a purpose but whole hotel needed updating, lick of paint, change the chairs in the dining room. Bathrooms could do with a refresh too. Swimming pool indoors and out was ok and good opening times. Bar could have done with being open during the day while people were relaxing at the hotel.
The hotel seemed a bit dated but was clean. It is easy to walk to the shopping centre, bus station and Quayside. The staff were OK but we felt that they were under pressure, always helpful when asked. The shower was a bit of a gamble as to whether you received a hot or cold shower and it did fluctuate, difficult to manage.
Went for a 4day break, hotel first impression better than some reviews, easy check in given room 208 over looking the pool clean big comfy bed, breakfast good, only did bb. Location close to Town easy walk, drinks at the bar a little expensive for a 3star hotel,
If you read the reviews you should know what to expect before you get there. It's not the Hilton but good value. We had room 120 superior which was spotless and the best bed I've slept on.The bathroom is new. Took a while to suss out the shower (pull the fitting up) but it was good. The pools are good. The staff are great. Give the restaurant manager a break he s not employed as a comedian hes good at his job. The breakfast is as good as anywhere. The manager told me there is going to be a lot of refurb next year. Location for walking to town is great.
Ok, I picked this hotel so can only blame myself...it is in desperate need of someone giving it some love and care and spend some money on it and the rooms, bathrooms, bar areas. The location is perfect but that is about the only thing. We were very disappointed to see room 103 and did tell the manager this and were offered a change of room the next day - he was charming and I guess he is used to people not being very happy with the rooms. The bathrooms are very sub standard, could go on and on about them - shower runs hot and cold, noisy recycling of bottles starts early in the morning. so be prepared to not get much sleep when this is going on. The chairs in the dining area are interesting, only a matter of time before someone gets stuck in one due to oldness and seriously needed replacing as are the tired stained chairs in the bar and the reception area. The Apollo is not a cheap hotel - by London standards but is very run down and I think the owners are not too bothered as they are making money and are probably waiting for a good time to sell and retire to Guernsey. I would think long and hard again about booking any hotel and depending on the pictures they advertise as they are very misleading. I offer 3 holiday houses in Scotland and expect high standards so was disappointed this time. We were offered a 10% discount if we were to visit again, but we will be unable to do that.
