The Green Park Hotel Merter5.0 out of 5.0

We were put up here by Turkish Airlines during a 15-hour layover. I was initially excited to be staying at my first ever 5-star hotel, however it soon became clear that this rating was pulled out of a hat. The room was a very basic double, about on par with most 3-star hotels. It was small but clean and there was free coffee on the desk, despite a total lack of kettle in the room. The worst feature by far was the air conditioning, which was weak at best and started to blast hot air halfway through the night. Glad not to have paid for the stay but can't complain on the basis that it was free and only a 20 minute ride from the airport, even with traffic. Was disappointed to be leaving too early to try their breakfast, which has good reviews.
I stayed at the Green Park Merter for one night due to a flight delay causing me to miss my connection. Turkish Airlines very kindly put me up in this hotel. The check-in process was quick and the lobby area was comfy. The dinner we got was a set menu and at 9.30pm on a Sunday for some reason the bar was shut and the only way we could get a drink was using the minibar. Dinner was good considering I wasn’t expecting it and arrived quickly and this allowed me to go to bed. The room was very hot and the air conditioning didn’t work well at all, The beds weren’t the most comfy and I think a new mattress would probably be recommended! However the pillows were excellent. The main issue for me was the air conditioning not working and due to this I had to open the window and therefore was rather noisy outside! The positives were the dinner, the free wifi which was fast and I could access in my room and also the view of the planes coming into land was rather good. I wouldn’t say this is a 5 Star Hotel at all, More like a 4 Star or even a 3 Star! But is acceptable for a night before a flight and is near to the airport and can reach the airport within 30 minutes.
I was actually on a 16+ hour layover in Istanbul! I found out that Turkish airlines will provide you with a free hotel with a lengthy layover, so this was great! They provide a great breakfast. The hotel is located near nice little parks and a local tram/train to get to the city or wherever you need to go. Istanbul is great!
Turkish airlines must keep this hotel in business. I did not voluntarily pick this hotel but was sent her by Turkish Airlines after a debacle and probably over 50 of us were stranded. I was advised it was a 5 star hotel. No not even close the waiter in the restaurant was hostile, yelled at us, wifi was spotty, and this hotel further reinforced how Turkish airlines screwed up my vacation. To be fair the rooms are spacious. But it's not near to the city center. We had to pay a visa to enter Turkey and couldn't enjoy it in the slightest. This hotel would never be a logical choice unless you had to find something close to the airport. Some of staff was beyond rude.
Turkish Airlines sent me to this hotel with the promise that it would be a 5-star hotel. I stayed there for about 4 hours and wish I wouldn't have gone through all that hassle The beds were narrow and not very comfy, the room size rather small, the shower dated, air condition was ok, wifi speed good and the staff was friendly doing their best to handle a bunch of grumpy passengers who missed flights or had other worries. I felt the hotel was noisy (especially the lobby) and I am not sure about the area (which I didn't explore). I would estimate the star rating of this hotel between 2 and 3 on American / Western Europe standards. If this hotel wouldn't have posted 5-stars rating, but one more in line with international standards, I would have given a better TripAdvisor rating here.
We did not have a choice in the hotel - this was arranged for by Turkish Airlines. But, fortunately, the hotel was a good one for an overnight layover stop. The staff were friendly, the food in the hotel dining room (buffet-style) had a wide selection, and the fare was tasty (price was very reasonable). Breakfast was also buffet and had a good selection - the price was included.
We had a layover in Istanbul for one night and the airline booked us into The Green Park. You never know what you are going to get when you let someone else do the booking for you, but it turned out very, very well. As I said, there is something for everyone; a great pool, a fitness club, a sauna, a masseur, a lounge (unfortunately smoking allowed) but seating outside on the patio, security parking and a great lobby and front desk. The hotel is kind of a renaissance place. It has ornate furnishings in the lobby with a winding staircase to the upper floor. The rooms appear older, but very well kept and clean. Great toiletries and bathroom. The room is spacious with beds, desks, overstuffed chairs, but not a great view from our room. The topper however, was the breakfast buffet in the morning. I have eaten breakfast in many European hotels over the years and they all are good or better than your American provided hotel breakfast. But the one at The Green Park is over the top. I counted at least 40 different items of food. No doubt to accommodate all of the nationalities, cultures and religions of paying guests. There were hot items, cold items, dates, cheeses, sweets, savories, etc. You could spend 3 hours just eating breakfast. Great coffee and teas and they had a young lady whose job was to make orange and other juices fresh at her station. I will be honest, we took a shuttle to the hotel and it was evening; so I really don't know where we were, but it was another European adventure and a very, very good time. The shuttle was very good coming from the airport and getting us to the airport the next morning.
I was in this hotel because Turkish Airlines gave me for free and I have to say I wasn't satisfied. The internet was terrible, the most part of the staff doesn't speak English very well, the swimming pool was closed, and I asked if everything of the table was for free, they confirmed me this three times, andwhen I had to do the check out they charged me 20 € because they said it was only included water, coffee and tea. I felt very cheated and I can't believe it was a misundertanding with the amount of customers that Turkish Airlines and this hotel have. Completely to avoid
This hotel is well located and the smooth stay. If you are not expecting much from staff, or formal hospitality but your own way to look at the issues within the hotel then this is an ideal place for your stay. Nothing bad other than the general comments spelled out in detail. Though the hotel looks like a three start or near to four star hotel, its still worthy. I hope the management will pay more attention on the hotel management and staff capacity near future. Ideal place for Business rather on family.
I stayed three nights at this hotel last month. Maybe my expectation was too high as this is a 5-star hotel and the photos looked beautiful on the website. Sadly I have to say from the point of checking in till check-out I could not feel welcomed by the hotel. The staff were not very helpful nor friendly. Maybe it is because they could not speak English? But after it is a 5-star hotel and you would expect most of the staff would speak English? Or even with poor English, friendly gestures would have been very much appreciated. Unfortunately I did not see smiles on the staff's faces very much. The breakfast buffet was quite extensive but again the staff were not welcoming when I asked where I could sit. Thankfully there was a friendly English-speaking chef, but without him I would have been left unattended, feeling very awkward. Actually I did not bother to go to breakfast on the next two days due to this rather lonely experience on the 1st morning. The room was not completely clean, and very hot as there was no control on the heating system - had to left the window open during the night. Some amenities e.g. shoe polishing kit was not refilled - there was only an empty box. The bathroom looked quite dated. The room was supposed to be a deluxe room, but I think I was given a standard room. The location is good as it is within an easy access to the airport, and very close to a Tram station, but I could not believe the hotel is rated 5 star. It is such a shame that the hotel has so much potential but not much has done to improve the reputation. I would like to suggest they provide a bit more friendly services if I may, that would have made my stay a lot more pleasant for sure.
