My husband and I spent 5 days at the Pera Palace Hotel Istanbul in mid December 2017. What a fabulous time was has. We booked theGreta Garbo room and it was spacious, comfortable and airy. Hotel breakfast was like any other but service was great. I have to mention one person in particular who made our stay in Istanbul memorable. Ebru the lady at guest relations Her recommendations at every level were impeccable. From the restaurants to Hamam she recommended were all top class. Pera Palace should be proud to have Ebru as a member of their staff. Thank you Pera Palace. We will be back
Pera Palace was the first hotel in Istanbul with hot running water, air con and the first elevator. It is also where Agatha Christie may have written Murder in the Orient Express and certainly where Ataturk planned his secret meetings to overthrow the Ottoman Empire. Today, the hotel may well have been overtaken in creature comfort by many new 5 star hotels sprouting out in the city. Room even for a suite is not big. Notwithstanding this, it is still a fabulous stay for one - two days. Under the FHR program, I was upgraded from a Greta Garbo corner room to a Pierre Loti Suite. Many pictures were taken from the balcony of the suite in the hotel during my stay. I dined at the lobby Saloon restaurant. The food is pleasant and reasonably priced. The Saloon, unfortunately, is the only choice offered for dinner for now when Agatha Restaurant is closed for renovation for dinner. Dinner is from 7p.m onwards. There is a private museum within the hotel compound with some belongings of Ataturk, father of modern Turkey during the specific time in the day. It shouldn't take longer than 10 minutes to complete the museum tour. Hotel is within walking distance to Thaksin Square and there's a huge variety of restaurants behind the hotel. Like other hotels in Istanbul, service is excellent. This is an excellent hotel for unique experience and picture taking. The hotel, however, will not suit the business travellers as the romantic lights are too dimmed for working and wifi is really weak at least on the higher floors where I stayed. The hotel is no longer with the Jumeirah Group as of Dec 17.
I'm surprised to see that Pera Palace Hotel ranks only at 56 at TripAdvisor. The hotel edifice from the outside doesn't do it justice. It's an elegant property. The lobby is compact, but there was enough elbow room in the standard twin room. I'm particularly impressed with the hotel's luxurious Turkish bath/sauna room. It comes with state-of-the-art facilities and design that invokes historical grandeur of the Ottoman Empire. The venue doesn't seem to be much frequented. It's a haven to retreat to after a hectic day around Istanbul. Breakfast buffet spread is limited. But all items are well-made and tasty. There's also a number of cooked-to-order breakfast items to choose from.
I've spent an entire week in this gorgeous hotel in Istanbul (26th Dec- 2nd Jan). I'd like to start by thanking all the skillful staff of the Pera palace that has shown, during this days, a great professional attitude and kindness. The hotel location is prestigious, as this is the symbol of the golden age of Istanbul, with many important characters that had them accommodation here: from Hemingway, to Agatha Christie and Kemal Ataturk. The hotel keeps the fascinating atmosphere of that times and, for those who are not hotel guests, I suggest at least a visit to the fabulous tea room and oriental bar in order to experience the true luxury of those years. What really made the difference tough, is the quality of the in-room service. Jumeirah managed to combine history and a new standard of excellence in this location: everything from the cleaning of the room, to the kindness of the staff, was just perfect My room, located at the 6th floor with a stunning view of the golden horn, was very elegant and classy. The SPA and especially the Turkish bath and amman are worth a view as well. The price: I have the Italian and swiss passport and comparing the prices of this country with Europe does not make any sense, but in the end I was astonished by the quality-price ratio of this accommodation (i've spent less than 200 euros per night) for a stunning superior room with a wonderful view. Thank you Istanbul and thank you Pera palace for this fantastic days, you'll be missed but I will certainly come back in the future. RECOMMENDED
Not only 31st of december is a very important day for the world but it is my birthday. Me and my partner stayed in pera palace which was magnifecant. New year party was a traditional grand style. The whole hotel personell was so sympatethic and professional . We had great time. Definitely i felt as if it were my own home and i was throwing the party. But i have to mention the patisserie of the hotel . İt is so marvellous. The lady who is in charge of the patisserie is a wonderful person reflects the soul of the hotel so well. İ thank her especially .
Location of the hotel is in the center of Istanbul, close to most main attractions. You can take public transit within a very short walk or go by foot to Istiklal Street, or take a taxi. We choose a taxi to go to the old city, as we had a limited time and did not want to waste time finding directions. The cost was approx 6-7 Euros to the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. The taxi stand is right beside the hotel. They are metered taxis, clean with courteous divers. Few of the drivers spoke to us in English, but if they know where you want to go they take you directly there. Having the location written clearly on a paper helps. The hotel takes you back to the glorious era of the Orient Express, so well renovated to preserve the ambiance of that time, even the music was from the 30’s-40s. This is a smaller hotel, grandiose in decor, but not expansive. I personally think it a wonderful hotel for couples or business people, but not for young children. The Orient Express bar/lounge has a cozy feeling, comfortable seating, and is not noisy. The entire hotel was quiet. The Agatha Christie restaurant is only used for breakfasts at this time. There is another formal dining room on the Lobby floor, which has a feel of elegance. I cannot comment on the food as we did not dine there. We did have light meals in the Salon, and they where excellent. The server, a young Turkish lady was very accommodating, polite and welcoming. It was a pleasure to relax there with a drink and a sandwich. The rooms take you back in time, they have original older, but in wonderful condition, wooden furniture. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows where also. Our room had a Nespresso machine, also a mini bar. If you want complete quiet for sleeping it would be better not to be on the Pera side rooms, you may hear a bass from the music of the restaurants across the street. It was not extremely loud, but you are aware of the bass. Breakfast was delicious, not bacon and eggs, as some people would want, but various cold cuts, cheese, Turkish specialties, and they will prepare eggs or an omelet for you on request, also they will make cappuccino coffee on request. There are good cafes and restaurants near the hotel, and the conceriege will assist you with making a decision, if you request it. There are several bank machines less than one block from the hotel, if you require money exchange. This is a very convenient hotel to stay. I left my last comment about the staff until the end of my review. The staff are excellent, I mean really excellent! They are friendly, polite, and make a person feel at home. They do everything without fuss, they anticipate your wishes and needs, they are truly the jewel of this hotel! Berk at the front desk was great,he made our wedding anniversary an experience to remember, also the young women caring for us in the Salon where we had sandwiches and a drink, on two occasions was so kind. In mentioning these two people we will not forget the politeness of the other staff at breakfast, the conceriege, the door men, the housekeeping personnel, they all made our stay memorable, thanks to all of you. A truely wonderful hotel!
The property A grand hotel from the 1890s done up to the nines (well). Located between a very busy urban six lane highway and a busy urban feeder road. Great salon, with comfy tones of library and tea room, next to an excellent cocktail bar. The room Top floor room with a small balcony (good), but facing the main road (bad). About 200 sq feet. Clean, tidy, quality fittings. The balcony has a great view over the inland city. The bathroom Shower only, with a rain head, a shower head, and a seat. Clean and fresh. The bed Comfy mattress, good linens, lighting a bit weak. Ambient noise and light On the western side of the hotel, loads of both. Main road runs 24/7 with added Turkish competitive horn-blowing. The balconies are floodlit, and the curtains didn’t keep out the light (thank heaven for sleep masks). A very poor night’s sleep resulted. Other comments Rooms on the other side probably not much quieter. Don’t stay here if you like the window open and the atmosphere peaceful. Otherwise Pera is a romantic choice.
Excellent excellent excellent.... not only a hotel or a museum... the TEAM makes you feel like staying at home. The TEAM starting from the reservation to the door, reception, housekeeping, restaurant etc etc etc everyone makes you feel that you are the only guest. The special THANK YOU and APPRECIATION to Ms Ebru, guest relation manager; in my 30 years career she is the most talented person and she is the most person who enjoys and loves what she does. As the bell boy called it, this is a museum hotel. It is in an old luxurious building that will get you taking pictures of every corner; such attention to detail. Rooms have great views as well. Location is ok in the center of town near Istiklal street and Taksim square. Service is top notch as per the Jumeirah standard. Food is very good. Spa is also excellent.
We enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea here in old world glamour style. We were a party of four and had booked in advance so arrived to find a nice little corner had been reserved for us. Good range of teas and good quality coffee available as well as the usual afternoon tea fare, finger sandwiches and little cakes and pastries as well as warm scones. Service from Elif was excellent she was attentive and looked after us so well, thank you. The gentleman playing the piano was a wonderful surprise to the experience and we all agreed that he had really added to the delightful experience. We will return for sure.
