I spent 2 nights at the Pera Palace while visiting Istanbul. This is an old hotel with a lot of history. The amenities are great, the hotel is clean, and well kept, rooms are spacious. The location is good as it's near Istiklal Street which is always lively and has lots of restaurants. I didn't have the breakfast so I can't comment on that. There's live music in the lounge/bar area every night was is great. I had a few issues during my stay. The prime issue I had was with noise. I was in room 518, and unfortunately across the street in front of the hotel is a restaurant also near the 4th or 5th floor. This restaurant seems to have live music and parties every night with lots of singing and dancing. The restaurant opens their windows so the sound reaches right across the street to any rooms on the front of the building. The soundproofing of the windows is also quite poor so sound enters the room no matter what you do. The first night during my stay, I complained to the concierge about the noise (12:30 am). He was very understanding and called the neighbours across the street. Unfortunately the noise kept coming. I called the concierge again, and he said he would call the authorities. 15 minutes later, the noise stopped (1 am). I was finally able to sleep. The second night, the party started up again, and so did the noise. I also had issues with the air conditioning in my room. The manager was kind enough to upgrade my room to a larger suite on the first floor away from the front. This resolved all my issues. Unfortunately I don't blame the hotel, the staff did their best, but it's unfortunate that there is a noise problem in this neighborhood. I also had one other minor issue with the turn down service. The first night I was in my room and it was around 6-8pm, and I heard a quick knock on the door followed by someone opening the door before I could respond. I quickly yelled out as I was undressing in my room, and the staff quickly closed the door and went away. I think that was really unprofessional. Staff really need to wait before entering a room so quickly.
We were delighted with our 3 night stay at the Pera Palace -well located and only a 5 min walk to Seshane metro station and the funicular-Tunel. Galata tower is a ten min walk and in the other direction 20 min to Taksim Square There are good restaurants in the Area including Mezze by the olive tree across the street The hotel-yes there is a nod to its famous past, but the rooms are very comfortable. The pool etc a bonus. The cocktail bar is all that you would want and a treat at the end of the day was the patisserie shop/cafe Breakfast -you would be crazy not to have a breakfast inclusive rate. Well presented buffet and hot items that changed daily. Really a great start to the day. The staff served in a very professional manner We were checked in by a very personable young gentleman. Guest relations and concierge were all terrific We would definitely return. The hotel was great value and top class
Nice staff, really did their best. A bit dated hotel but it only adds to the charm. Breakfast was excellent. The spa had seen better days but was OK. Location is good too, but ask for a room to the back to avoid the street noise.
This hotel is one of the oldest in Istanbul- if not the oldest . However it is kept up to date in any respect . Service is impeccable , interior charming and with traces of grandeur . Breakfast restaurant unfortunately located in one of the lower floors- with a rather depressing view . Rooms are great and well kept . Wi-Fi all over , cosy bar and tea room . In many respects it could be mistaken for a big manor house in the english countryside - however the lack of park amenities is striking - and the vibrant city life just outside your windows can be a challenge especially during weekends. Despite this, the place is highly recommended .
We stayed there for 6 days. The hotel was absolutely astonishing. The view from the 6th floor was superb. The staff was really helpful. Breakfast was good. We really couldn’t ask for anything more. We will definitely stay at pera palace again.
This is our first visit to Istanbul and we had an amazing time. It was made more amazing by experience in this wonderful hotel. We were greeted very warmly by highly professional staff , given a tour of the hotel and its history carefully explained. They kindly upgraded our room to a corner suite. This again was absolutely beautiful the furnishings were superb and the room installation and sound installation was perfect despite the very central location of this hotel. The hotel is blessed with highly professional staff whom are clearly dedicated to their job and the management of the hotel also care passionately about maintaining the history of this hotel. We used the spa and I highly recommend I hamman a experience. Lots of fabulous restaurants in close vicinity and the walk to the old town is again very easily done and a great experience. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and look forward to returning to it in the near future thank you everyone. Barbara and Farhad Kamali
People look for different things in hotels at different times and in different places, and for diverse reasons. We were looking for a comfortable, convenient and interesting base for a few days holiday in a great city at a fair price. Of course there is always room for critical comment about aspects of any hotel experience; there are no doubt other offerings in Istanbul with, say, bigger terraces, more effective sound-proofing or better views. Consider staying at this hotel, however, if you respond to a strong sense of a tradition of hospitality, are susceptible to a palpable air of romance and enjoy fin de siecle ‘oriental’ design. The relationship between an hotel and its city over time could scarcely be more intriguing. I already long to return to the Pera Palace.
This is by all means a fantastic experience. It is as if you are taken back to Agatha Christie´s ancient times. The craftsmanship and the materials used are fabulous. Marble, golden plate, hardwood is a dream. The musiciens playing the flügel and the live jazz in the bar. This is the true "throwback" to the Orient Express times. Great SPA, great service. Value for money indeed.
If you haven't been to Istanbul before, a great place to start with. If you have, a special place that will afford a new perspective. In a city full of top-notch hotels, the Palace offers a unique alternative: a piece of the history of the city itself combined with the amenities of a luxury hotel. The hospitality extended and the attention clients receive are worthy of special mention.
