Hippodrome Hotel

Close walk to Hagia Sofia & Blue Mosque. The staff are exceptionally friendly, enthusiastic & helpful. My room was small, but with a separate bathroom. Internet was slow some nights, but just fine most of the time. There is an elevator. You are right in the middle of Sultanahmet, so you'll be bouncing out of your room to experience Istanbul; but time spent in your room is quite pleasant, and an incredible bargain. Breakfast is just down the street (40 meters?) at the Hippodrome's big brother luxury hotel, so each morning you have a short walk to a posh environment for your buffet with a view of Asia across the Bosphorus. Fresh eggs, juices, cereals, cold cuts, etc. Lots of choices. Choice of cappuccino or coffee from an automated machine (great for machine cappuccino; not bad by general standards). Each morning I left thinking 'Well, that was nice! Certainly better than I expect from a hotel breakfast!' Oh, there's a safe in the closet of the room that you set with a combination of ur choice. Nice touch, though I never got a feeling anyone was shady. The fish restaurant across the street has a deep menu & tasty food. (Fried calimari looked pretty normal, but Stuffed Calimari was a huge calimari shell, served sizzling in a ceramic dish, with an out-of-this world stuffing of various seafoods). The next restaurant up had nightly Turkish folk music from a talented & entertaining trio on violin, canon (like cembalom or autoharp) & drum. Great with Raki (but try Emet beer too)!

We had a great stay at this hotel. It was located in the center of all the tourist activities and we were able to walk to all our points of interest. There was confusion with our reservation but the hotel staff and online company were very helpful and sorted them out. We also got a great booking price online! Around $80, without a reservation it would have cost 200 euros!! Our room was very nice, and other than the shower head being partly broken, no complaints!

For the first two nights we were taken to the hippodrome apartment hotel down from and across the road from the main hotel. Those rooms were very, very tired. The hallways were depressing, carpets and furniture were dingy, etc.. The bathrooms were very dirty with no water pressure in the showers. We asked to be moved to the main hotel for the last two nights, and it was much better---mostly clean (except under the bed), modern, and quiet. We would have been happy with our hotel choice if we had been in the main hotel the entire stay.

location can't be beat, blue mosque, ayasophia, sultanahmet tram stop ,resturants and a travel agency up the street.booked a daytrip to ephesus and a bosphorus cruise out of this small friendly office also a shuttle back to the airport. hotel was a great value in this oldest of historic neighborhoods.

The fellows at the front desk are great! Shook my hand every time i came in or went out! Wireless internet was fast and reliable. Breakfast was down at the Holiday Inn and has a great spread with eggs, yogurt and lots of fresh fruit! Also cheeses and meats and olives! All on a rooftop terrace with a view of the Marmara and Princes Islands on one side and the Blue Mosque on the other! One downside is the room overlooked a busy street and the noise could be quite loud til quite late. Bring earplugs!

The staff was even more attentive and helpful than at 5 Star Hotels. The Hippodrome lacks some amenties, like a spa but I wanted a small, older hotel with a good location. This hotel had good wifi, great electric kettles for in-room drinks and the afternoon "tea party" had wonderful offerings. Breakfasts had an amazing and plentiful selection of goodies. I even learned some Turkish and Tavla, thanks to the Concierge. This more than made up for the fact that my in-room fridge needed de-frosting! The location was perfect for a woman traveling. The location was PERFECT.

The hotel is cozy, good location to all the places you have to visit in Istanbul. There are nice restaurants all around with good food and live turkish music. Mostly the hotel staff are very courteous, polite and friendly. The only thing missing that would have made my stay more enjoyable is my family(Husband and kids). Don't go alone!

The hotel's location is perfect to visit most landmarks, the train station is also at walking distance (about 5minutes). The staff are great, and make your stay very enjoyable. As I was leaving, I forgot a pair of very expensive sunglasses in the hotel room, I left my luggage with the concierge and since I had a few hours before my departure I went to run some last errands. When I went back to the hotel to pick up my luggage to go to the airport, the housekeeper came running down the lobby to give me my sunglasses, although I hadn't even realized that I had forgotten them. I really appreciate her honesty. The receptionist [...] who speaks good English, Russian and some French went beyond his duty to help us daily, explaining to us how to get to different locations etc...he really deserves a raise for his excellent customer service skills. We will definitely return to that hotel and will recommend it to others.

It was a rip off for $200.00 USD a night. The room was so small, cramped and little it was unbelievable. Then we found that there was a better room unoccupied which we asked for but it was really too late. Moreover the front desk receptionist , a male named [...]was sexually harassing one of the party until she finally reported him to the manager and the manager acted like it was a usual thing, dismissed it and did nothing about it. [...] This was a bad deal and I wish to have all of my money refunded on this hotel.

great people - clean rooms and great service.
