Not many people stay more than a few days in Holbox. We were there for 10 days and loved the family at Ensueño. Rooms were comfortable. No tv and wifi quite weak. Frustrating at first but helped us settle into a slower pace. Whenever we had any issue Damian was right there to help out. He is an absolute gem. Even killed a scorpion for us. We experience an absolute downpour one day and roof leaked but that is certainly nothing the hotel could help. Moment rain stopped we heard someone on the roof fixing it. They care very much for their guests. Access to beach club was nice. If anyone leaves Ensueño dissatisfied you probably didn’t let staff know what you needed, we found them very accommodating. Can’t wait to bring family back next year.

We previously visited Isla Holbox during 2006 and this time returned with our 3 children aged 10, 8 & 4 for 4 nights. Damien greeted us on arrival and welcomed us to the hotel - he showed us our room and took the time to explain everything about the hotel and area. Victor was also super helpful on the front desk. The hotel is meticulously clean including the rooms, grounds and pool area. You can fill water bottles with filtered water at reception and can purchase beer, wine, olives etc for a reasonable price (perfect for by the pool!). The hammocks on the balconies are a lovely touch outside each room and there is a rooftop terrace to enjoy, not to mention the baby turtles that our kids loved. We could’ve honestly stayed a week at this hotel - it’s so gorgeous! Breakfast is light but adequate with fruit, yoghurt, toast, coffee and juice. Thank you very much to all the staff at Ensueno!

We loved our stay at Ensueno in Holbox. We stayed for 5 days and from the start everyone was pleasant, friendly and approachable. Ensueno has a small staff team with 2 main receptinoists and a handful of maintenance people. Everyone was amazing! We traveled with our 20 month old daughter and we lacked nothing here. Victor and Damien (the 2 main receptionists) were superb with Damien going far and beyond for us! and the maintenance/breakfast staff Evelio and his daughter were super accessible and helpful! Ensueno is a short walking distance from the beachfront where a nice beach restaurant sits as well for convinience (a bit pricey but discount provided to those staying in Ensueno). This side of the isalnd - Punta Coco bound - is super chill and quieter perfect for a family with small children or those that want more privacy in general. The rooms here are very spacious and have a small kitchenette with hot plates and even a blender if you want to make yourself a tasty meal. The pool is nestled in the middle of the hotel by plants and a nice shaded palm trees. It is cleaned daily and its room temprature. We had a fantastic stay here!

My husband and I spent five days here and it was just perfect. Far enough away from the discos and the golf carts yet close enough to walk or bike to town. Damien at the front desk was gracious and super helpful in finding restaurant to meet my AIP needs in Mexico which is not easy. But with his help I have had great meals out every night! The place is clean and offers small kitchens and good clean water. The pool was a nice plus. Close to a fabulous beach! We will be back. Thank you for a great trip!

I stayed at Ensueño Holbox for a couple of nights at the end of January, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. The hotel is very pretty and very relaxing. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating, especially Damien who is an absolute gem. Furthermore, the the beach bar is super fun ! Definitely recommend stay :)

Ensueno Holbox Apartments is a wonderful place to stay on the island. There are about 12 units in two buildings and they are very private since there are no shared walls. The apartments are perfectly clean and very well cared for with daily housekeeping service and the staff was very helpful. Some have stove, refrig, all have AC. There is an excellent pool and shaded rooftop areas that are relatively mosquito free in the eves. Excellent spots for the sunset. No TV (good!) and spotty WiFi. It is an easy walk along the beach into town, about 1km. There are bikes in good condition and they will make arrangements for a golf cart rental (we walked, biked and took taxis). It worked for us to walk into town for dinner then either walk back or take the taxi. There are a few things to know about the island. Holbox has no paved roads and they want to keep it like that. The streets are narrow with little parking for cars. It is possible to rent a golf cart to get around but when it rains the streets flood and they don't rent them then. The puddles are DEEP, one taxi went the wrong way and got stuck. We pushed. There are lots of mosquitoes and the island is hot. People walk, bike, ride golf carts or scooters. There are not so many people hawking stuff as other places. There are lots of good restaurants - we ate at Los Pelleones, Viva Zapata, Rosa Mexicano, El Hornito Argenta and Raices. Every one was excellent with great service. Rosa Mexicano had an especially good chicken mole. Very fresh fish and very reasonable prices. Dinner for two with drinks was always between 500 and 1000 pesos, $35-$70. Food this quality is not available for that price in the US. Dollars are not usually accepted and credit cards only some places. When going out at night insect repellent and a flashlight is necessary - the beach is dark. The scene on the square is wonderful to watch with people of all ages out in the evening and three generations having a meal together. Arena Hotel has an excellent rootop bar with a fine view but no food; they will order from Hornito's. There is also a small place on the beach called Victoria dePalapas that's perfect for breakfast, lunch, drinks or the sunset. They close early. The Bar Zome looks like the place to hang on the beach but we never got there, it was not open much. The 3 island tour is great. We also took a tour of the ruins at El Balam, it's a long way 2 hrs. there but you have to visit a Mayan site while on Holbox. The ocean is clean, very warm and pretty calm.
