I traveled by myself with two children and stayed in an ocean view bungalow. Location, location. Spectacular views. The bungalow is comfortable. Felt very safe with the girls on my own. The hotel is very well designed and you feel as though you are on your own. We never had to fight for a bed on the beach or beside the pool. I really liked the beach bags. The food in the restaurants is delicious. The girls loved the swimming pools. I would advise wearing water shoes in the ocean as my daughter painfully stepped on a marine animal. One of the lovely waiters, Edgar, was wonderful treating her wound. Manual also helped us a lot on the beach. Its a great location for paddle boarding, The masseuse is great! The hotel organised the transfers from Cancun which made it easy. I would give it 5 stars except I felt it to be on the expensive side.
Just came back from my daughter's magical wedding at Las Nubes De Holbox. I can't begin to express how wonderful the entire experience was. From the beginning, the staff at Las Nubes were so wonderful in helping to plan a destination wedding. No stress, just pure excellence in every aspect. The food fantastic, the staff so wonderful, the entire resort catered to our needs in every way. All of our guests felt pampered and well taken care of. This is a magical island, and Las Nubes is a purely special place that all of our guests and family, and especially the bride and groom will treasure forever. Thank you Las Nubes, we LOVE you!!!!
Spent a lovely day here. When we arrived there was a bit of confusion among the staff about the procedure for issuing a day pass but eventually got sorted. 800 pesos (half for kids) included a beach chair and towel, use of pools (including a beautiful infinity pool) and 500 pesos credit towards food and drink. The resort has the most stunning views and direct sea access. We are staying at Mawimbi but I much preferred this end of the beach as it's much quieter. So nice to lie on a bed listening to nothing except the sound of gentle waves and birds. Food was excellent and the bartender in the Sky bar makes the best frappucino :-)
Located up the road from the fracas Holbox beach town is Les Nubes des Holbox, a compact resort shaded by one of the few shady palm tree groves on the island. We spent 6 days in late March of 2017. Friendly staff are there to greet on arrival. We were surprised to find that free access to bicycles, a great way to go into town for dinner or shopping, kayaks and paddleboards are included with the room. The strongest wifi is near the office and free. All during the day, those like me who cannot be absent too long from communications could sit on a comfortable bench in the shade and do business. The restaurant of the hotel is near the office with great food and wine. The Ceveche Pescado was outstanding, we had it nearly every day that we were there. The staff are always friendly and helpful moving at a pace that is as comportable as the place. Regular entertainment was provided by beachgoers promenading 100 yards from shore along a sand water level sand dune that runs past a string of resorts and the bio reserve area that extends just past the hotel. A gaggle of large iguanas lives on the rocks just beyond the low wall that surrounds outdoors seating. We tried to arrive each evening to see the sun set from the restaurant patio. Also immediately past the hotel is the kick off point for Kite Surfing on the island. In the late afternoon there were often 10 or more kite surfers cutting up the waves. The rooms are in a series of small two story buildings. Each room has a private entrance from sandy courtyards that are raked by staff each morning. The courtyards are a peaceful respit, exactly what I had left the city to find. Rooms are generous, well kept and modern. Our room was large and on the second floor with a open patio along one side. A set of screen doors at the foot of the bed meant that we could have the cool breeze all night long. Just outside our door the stair continued up onto a roof deck. At night the sky was filled with stars. We picked out the Big Dipper and Orion and could see the Milky Way in the darkness. Some have been critical of the distance to town. We found riding the free bikes convenient, fun and a nicely slower pace. The quiet of the last resort on the way out of town gave us the quiet retreat that we were looking for.
We stayed at 3 resorts while on Holbox and Las Nubes was by far our favorite. It's the farthest from town so a little more removed but still a walkable distance and perfect by bicycle, which they rent out to you for free. They also provide kayaks and stand up paddle boards if you like. The grounds were pretty small but lovely and you can have drinks brought to your hammock, chaise lounge or beach bed. The food at the restaurant was delicious, I recommend the green ceviche and the pina coladas and the upstairs bar has the best view of the sunset of all the hotels we stayed at. Be sure to save a couple tortillas from dinner to feed the friendly raccoons that will probably be waiting for a treat. When I go back to Holbox I hope to stay here again.
Las Nubes was recommended to us by a friend and we were extremely pleased with our 6 night stay! This property is so special. Being the last property before the national park, it feels remote and quiet and secluded...yet only a 10 minute bike ride to town. As you look at resorts closer to town, they are built closer together and after a certain point, there is a road between the resort properties and the beach. Even though only bikes and golf cart taxis use the road, it seemed like something we would not liked. Las Nubes is literally hanging over the water! There are three pools and a beach area. We loved walking the sandbar into the national part and watching wildlife. We enjoyed the free continental breakfast and every item menu we ordered here. They do a fabulous job on the food and drinks. We also ate some meals in town, which were also outstanding. Its nice to feel secluded but have great dining options. And the bar...wow...take advantage of the cocktails and sunset views. Or just eat lunch up there, the view is incredible. There is also a gorgeous large roof top deck that would be an amazing place to host a party/wedding. I have no doubt Las Nubes would do an amazing job. Las Nubes is an eco-resort (like most/all properties on Holbox)...so it is a great destination for an adventurous, flexible traveler. And well worth the trip. Las Nubes can help you set up transfers/trips and are very helpful. We can't wait to go back!
My wife and I visited Holbox for the first time and we booked our stay at las Nubes. This hotel is a paradise on earth. From welcoming and services, we cannot speak more highly about it. The Spa service are amazing, treatment fantastic. The vue from the hotel is breath taking and the sunset are to die. All the staff was so charming and very hospitable. The best place for a second honeymoon with my wife. We left after this amazing treat with a pinch in the heart and tears on the face. We will be back for sure.
Turquoise seas and white sand spits but with a local working ferry every half hour to get you to and from the mainland. Las Nubes is the final residence eastside before the Conservation begins and flora and fauna are protected. Consequently, the atmosphere is tranquil and serene. The location must be the reason for its high prices, though, because this is a 'no frills' hotel. Not a Qtip or cotton ball in sight. The staff are mostly willing but you have to go and find them. The bar is the space for glorious sunset views and a more chilled place to eat compared to the gloomy corridor of a restaurant below. Yes, there are sand flies/fleas and 'no-see'ums so take adequate medical protection. A wooden boardwalk connects the hotel space above ground where you can sit above the palm fronds in the breeze and enjoy panoramic views of the island. A Warning: do not arrive hours before the standard check-in time, after a seriously exhausting long-haul flight, or you might be ordered by the reception staff to 'Go to the restaurant and EAT until the room is ready'. The aggressive, unhelpful attitude of the reception staff may not be to everyone's taste.
Went with a friend to La Nubes de Holbox in January. The hotel is situated at the end of the Island; just before the kite surfing beach. (Best wind by the way). Cannot recommend enough this place. Overall the experience was amazing! Perfect for a retreat. Great spa, The hotel rooms are zen, peaceful, 2nd floor bar over looking the beach a must, restaurant food delicious, staff made us feel totally at peace. They have great selection of Mezcal, even discovered a refreshing drink made with Mezcal: MezcaMaica.
Not a luxury hotel by any means. Rooms very clean and very large! Staff friendly enough. The free continental breakfast was fine and you could order off menu if you wanted eggs etc. This property is old and somewhat dated though NOT run-down! It is at the very end of the beach, furthest from center of town but that is a good thing and taxi (golf cart taxi) from here to town is USD $2.50 so not big deal. Beach is lovely, you can walk out to sandbar and go for couple of miles which is wonderful. Water VERY clear and calm which we loved.
