Holiday Inn Helsinki West- Ruoholahti4.0 out of 5.0

This Holiday Inn has a good location near a metro station that is only a couple of stops from the centre of town. There are also a few supermarkets and fast food places in the immediate vicinity. We also thought our room was nice, with polished wood floors and views across a bay. What was less good was the staffing of the hotel. We repeatedly tried to call reception and housekeeping from our room only for the calls to go unanswered. This was a around 7pm, so there is really no excuse for this. We also thought the service in the bar was quite poor. We ordered a drink during their 5pm to 7pm happy hour only to have to explain to the male bartender what their happy hour was! This is despite their being a sign advertising it on the bar.
The 9-storey hotel is located in the vibrant Ruoholahti business district, a 5-minute metro ride or 20-minutes walk from the city center. The sea is very near and you can have a nice walk along the shore. Our standard room on the 8th floor had a sea view. Between the sea and the hotel there is a busy motorway but the room was well noise insulated. The room was quite small but practically furnished. The executive rooms are located on the top 9th floor. Their size is the same as standard rooms. The food selection at breakfast could have been better, especially for the hot items.
We chose Holiday Inn Ruoholahti as we were spending the evening wallclimbing in Salmisaari. A good enough hotel close to both Salmisaari ans the City Center. I recommend the Executive room, which doesn't cost much more but is in the 9th floor with a seaview. Not for those after some luxury, but a good everyday hotel with everything you need, including a small gym and nice sauna facilities. A shopping center is on the other side of the street.
A typical Holiday Inn with smoke-free facility and pets allowed policy. This one was located at a quiet corner of a commercial district, with supermarket around and accessible by public transit. As to guest rooms, nothing fancy but clean and comfortable. The property was well maintained. Staff at the reception were friendly. We enjoyed our room and the setting but not having a pleasant experience at breakfast time. The restaurant in fact was nice with good buffet, but the atmosphere was strangely uncomfortable. There were lots of seats available by the time we arrived, then it was filled up very quickly. We only sat down for 5 minutes and when my husband went to get his coffee, a woman rushed in to take his seat, she also called her friend to come and stood in front of me, with he facial expression that I should leave to give them the table, but we just sat down and haven’t finished our breakfast! When I looked around, another tour group had arrived and marching into the breakfast area... So a very rushed and nervous breakfast concluded our short stay (one night) at this hotel ....
I stayed here twice in May 2017 for a total of 9 nights, the experience certainly fulfilled my expectation. The room was conveniently furnished with enough compartments to put away things. We arrived way too early for check in but the staff checked that there was room available so we were given a room right away. It was a godsend as we could nap for a couple of hours after a long haul flight. It was not a new hotel but I'd say it is well maintained. Everything is well functional, and when on the second stay we told the reception about the slow drainage of the wash basin, it was fixed in a matter of hours. Not just that, the staff were quickly responsive to our every request, and they are really helpful. If the one thing that stands out of the other merits, it would be the impressive service provided. Breakfast was nice, choice / items more than adequate and the dining hall was spacious and neatly decorated. Overall impression just great.
An easy 3-min walk to the metro, good Holiday Inn amenities, very friendly reception staff. A good place to stay at for a business trip. If you are in Helsinki for tourism though, it's quite easy to be in the city center in 20 min. Just be prepared for the fact that there isn't much around except for business buildings and shopping malls.
Our stay at the Holiday Inn Ruoholahti was for a night and was comfortable. The deluxe category of rooms were small but cozy and the bathroom were basic with a shower room, no bath tub included. Breakfast was good. They had a spread of meats, cold cuts, breads and jellies with rice, eggs at choice and other beverages. Staff welcoming and warm. Thanks & Cheers
This is a pretty standard and consistent Holiday Inn. The rooms are clean and have comfortable beds (with a range of pillows) and the bathrooms have powerful showers. There is nothing fancy here - but you know what you're getting. I ate dinner in the restaurant once and had the local Finnish salmon soup which really was delicious! Breakfast is pretty good and has a range of hot and cold buffet selections. A range of western and Asian food is on offer. I would avoid the coffee and juice at breakfast as both seem to be made from instant powder and taste dreadful! The staff are friendly and helpful. If the location suits you (close to a metro) and you're ok being a little away from the centre then this is a good choice.
The hotel is located in a business area. However, it is very close to the Metro station (only a few mins walk) and very easy to get to the Central station using Metro. There's 2 large supermarket nearby, which is very convenient. There's also multiple restaurants close by. The room is new and clean and I considered it good value for the price.
This hotel is located in an office area only 400 meters from Ruoholahti metro (subway) station. The area isn't very beautiful. There are offices, a shopping center and roads there. However, the hotel has soundproofed windows. So the traffic noise didn't disturb my sleep quality. There seemed to be several groups from the Far East in the hotel, e,g. from China. There were a minibar, a safety deposit box, an iron and an ironing board in my room. Walls in my room were a bit scuffed. However, my toilet seemed to be quite good. The lobby bar was almost empty in the evening. However, the breakfast room was a bit congested in the morning. The breakfast was good. It included some specialties, e.g. Chinese rice porridge. There was even a pancake machine there. Put a button and wait for 30 seconds and you get a freshly baked pancake. A chef makes omelettes if you want. The service was extremely friendly and polite in the whole hotel.
