Friendly staff, lovely clean Hotel in beautiful surroundings and a fantastic restaurant (reviewed separately) made for a memorable night away. Highly recommended especially if you like decent food. The head receptionist was also very helpful and efficient.
We visited this hotel for our 51st wedding anniversary so took their Romantic Break option that included DB&B plus a cream tea. This was outstanding value for money and the hotel was everything the Greenhouse in Bournemouth was not - friendly, welcoming and not needing pretension. I found the room and bathroom cleanliness far superior to many other hotels, some of which charge far more.
Location is really wonderfull, quiet with a lot green around hotel and in typical English style. Rooms are big enough for two persons and have all needed facilities. Restaurant is good, friendly and helpful staff.
We organised a champagne afternoon tea for 22 people to celebrate my mums hen do. We had the Sir Bradshaw Room which was lovely, lots of space. Was lovely the table was set out as one big table, made it really sociable :) The food was wonderful especially the fruit scones! There was so much food, they gave us some boxes to box up some bits and take them home. Lovely touch. The staff were really attentive. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to book an afternoon tea here :)
Used this hotel for recent visit to Winchester. Amazing period building in picturesque surroundings. Very clean and well maintained. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Ate in the restaurant on two evenings. Menu was varied and the food was cooked and served to a very high standard. Breakfast options included continental, or freshly cooked from the menu. This was great choice of hotel and recommended for anyone visiting the Winchester area. Price was also competitive.
Utilised this hotel for the 1st time today. Easy to find off of the M3 and actually quiet and secluded with lovely gardens given its proximity to the motorway. Staff friendly and helpful - though not that prompt answering the phone or sending quote through (I had to chase). For the price and location it was nice to be somewhere with character and not just in a Hilton or Holiday Inn.
We spent 3 nights here and attended our grandaughters wedding reception in the adjoining arabian style tented structure. Very helpful and attentive staff, excellent room on the ground floor with view of the garden at the rear. Very quiet, pleasant room, well appointed with tea, coffee and biscuits replenished each day. Good choice of menu, although the service in the restaurant was very slow. Excellent breakfast, continental or cooked.
We stayed here in August for my boyfriends 30th birthday and we couldn't have asked for a better stay! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome, and well looked-after. We had a bottle of champagne and chocolate fondue included in our deal - the champagne was already in our room waiting for us along with some truffles as a happy birthday gift for my boyfriend. They brought the fondue to our room later in the day, which was very nice too - we wouldn't have ordered it if it wasn't in our room already, but it was nice all the same! Lovely grounds - we had a walk around a couple of times and hotel well located to get into Basingstoke. Room was lovely too - well decorated and bed was comfy. Had a nice view of the grounds. We also had dinner included, which was really fantastic - food was spectacular and the service was warm and friendly. Drinks are a little pricey so be aware of that. Breakfast was also brilliant. Table service and cooked breakfast made to order, which was delicious and one of the better hotel breakfasts I've had. All in all a brilliant stay - would definitely recommend. There was a wedding on when we were staying but we barely noticed as everything was clearly so well planned to make sure guests weren't disturbed. Would definitely stay again.
We spent a very comfortable overnight stay celebrating our wedding anniversary. This is the sixth Hand Picked hotel we have stayed in and the standard is consistently good. Our evening meal was really magnificent and the staff excellent.
Having enjoyed a different Handpicked Hotel a couple of years ago we thought we'd treat ourselves to a night at Audleys Wood prior to our visit to Southampton the following day. Online booking was straightforward, but when I phoned the hotel to ask about vegetarian options I was told "You should be carnivores, we have teeth designed to tear flesh from bones" - seriously?! To check-in: this took 15 minutes as the hotel is clearly understaffed. We had plenty of time to admire the cobwebs and dead spiders in the central light fitting! Our room was lovely, however we quickly noticed a rapid leak from beneath the toilet, a visit to reception resulted in a change of room after half an hour of uncertainty. So not enough time for a relaxing bath and dinner in the restaurant - a quick dip (not enough towels) and a meal in the lounge instead (couldn't fault that!) Back to the room - comfortable beds to relax in and count the cobwebs and spiders (alive this time!) on the ceiling. Needless to say we won't be returning!
