Shopping for a budget hotel in Guadalajara isn't usually a challenge, but this experience (booked through Hotwire as a blind reservation with a 3.5/5.0 rating) was not only disappointing, but also not a suitable place to stay. No refunds are offered even though we left early. Hard mattress, no elevator, dirty sheets, only one towel in a room for two guests, hair on the bed, pillows, and in the shower drain, a dirty shower, a cramped room with horrible wall finishes that felt like being in a coffin, no safe for valuables, an air conditioner remote that was taped together, hollow core room doors making it unsafe, very loud guests until very early morning hours, and no clothes closet. This is a place to avoid at all costs!
When my normal hotel I stay at didn't have rooms for the duration of my biz trip, reluctantly I booked this property. A total of 13 nights for less than USD$400? Thank you, Mr. Trump! The balance of my budget was well invested in great food, wine and even the Tequila Express Cuervo Tour. Don't expect much here, just bare bones amenities, th bathroom is small and no where to put your toiletries, the TV system only has local stuff, no news or sports in English. So, I braced myself and remembered that no one conned me into booking here, so, with such lemons, I made a decent lemonade! The cons: most all of it; the pros: proximity to everything yummy! The staff were always courteous and eager to please. I don't think I'll be staying here again, but then again, a 10 minute or less walk to goodies galore might well be worth it!
This hotel is located in center of Guadalajara. Location is very good. And we have many bags.So we ask them that they can keep our bags until we return. They said of course. We were very pleasure. We could get Taxi easily. The staff called Taxi.so we could go to night bar quickly. We don't feel stress. And we saw many family in the restaurant.
I booked the hotel at the last minute as I arrived in GDL. Although it is fine for a budget hotel I would have preferred a better location. Rooms are really small, the bathrooms was so slick I almost feel each time I entered. My main complaint is the location as it is on the edge of the limits in which tourists should be careful walking about at night, A few blocks towards central area and you will be fine.
I spent a night there. The room is very clean but it was kind of small, nothing to complain at all since I was just there with one more person so we really fit well in it. The bed was comfortable, although a bit hard. We were very hungry as we arrived so we rushed into looking at the menu and ordered two burgers and crepes, they were very tasty! Overall, the place is just fine and very close to downtown, but if you want to go to other places in the city, you're probably just a bus away.
First of all, the price of the hotel was great and so are their employees: helpful and friendly. The location is a 10 minute walking distance to all the main sights and restaurants are in walking distance. The beds were comfortable. Downsides: Noise Level - we had a room facing the street, Guadalajara's Main Street. You can imagine that the windows did not block the noise and therefore we had a light sleep. Mold - in the bathroom there was mold and the room itself felt humid. Cleanliness: the room has definitely been cleaned, but there was hair on the floor and even in the bathroom. Other: only one outlet to charge your cell phone in the entire ; no outlet in the bathroom; no hairdryer in the bathroom. Tablecloths at the breakfast tables should be changed more often; heater did not work and we were freezing at night. Overall: if you stay just for a night, that's fine.
We stayed at Hotel Portonovo for 3 days, when I got back home I realize that I forgot my earnings, they where important for me because my mom gave it to buy also they where very expensive, I call them and they told me not to that they would send it to me, 1 week after I talk to them I receive them. Other than this experience, I can say staff was very friendly, they show us the best places to eat and visit, but also warn us about the streets we shouldn't get in and our room was very clean and conformable, we also enjoy the delicious buffet they offer for free. I totally recommend this hotel for your next trip.
This hotel is in a great location making it easy to get around the historical center of town and easy to get from the airport, to the bus station, etc., by public transportation. It is a very clean hotel with a pleasant staff ( but with limited English). The wifi worked well enough to support telephone calls. The buffet was great considering it was included in the room rate; otherwise, I would not pay the asking price for it. The disadvantages, however, kept our visit from being better than a 3/5 rating. The beds are rather hard and I sweated if my back stayed flat on the mattress too long indicating there was probably some kind of plastic cover underneath. The pillows were HORRIBLE--huge, overstuffed and hard. I couldn't use mine; I removed it and stuffed the pillow case with a fluffy pullover I brought with me. Noise from other guests was also a problem; their voices and footsteps and the sounds of their children playing in the hallways could clearly be heard within the rooms. Finally, the air conditioner blows towards the beds--something I always dislike. For the price and location, I would stay there again. But I would have to use my earplugs, create my own pillow again, and I would have to turn off the a/c during the sleeping hours.
i stayed at the hotel for a couple of weeks and it was just what i was looking for. very affordable, in a fantastic location, just 30 second walk to the very beautiful parts of guadalajara. the staff are not just friendly but are actual friends. Reece at the front counter took me along to a game of soccer at the grand estadio omnilife, it was great to see the game and the atmosphere. one of the other fellows taught me a little espanol "no me lo regalas?" and i said "si, no se lo regalo" haha. Tony is the manager and he helped me when my bank card stopped working, and helped me send some post cards to friends and family. Thanks Tony! great place to stay, i would stay there again!
My friend and I stopped for two nights in Guadalajara, on our way from Mexico City to Puerto Vallarta and stayed at the Portonovo. The hotel is well located close to the main touristic attractions in Guadalajara. Our twin room was clean and welcoming, great for a stopover. Walls were however thin and you could hear any movement from the corridor. There are two computers in the lobby which guests can use, which was very useful. For breakfast, a selection of yoghurts, cereals, fruits and some cooked food was available.
